Call me corny, but I'm genuinely grateful that man was President when I was growing up.

Makes the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania rather trivial in comparison.

Big +1 there. Glad I got to see how it should be done during those years.

I was fortunate enough to have him give a speech for our school district when I was a senior. He was one of a kind.

Same here.

I feel fortunate that the the first time I was old enough to vote in a presidential election was his '84 re-election campaign. The only drawback to that is that I have never felt as good about any of my votes since then.

I am so envious of people who who have had the experience of voting for a presidential candidate rather than against one.

Yep, I can't really think of a president in my adult years where I haven't screamed at the TV at least once "You're the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet, ACT LIKE IT FOR (expletive)'s SAKE! "
I miss having a President that at least had some dignity.

This.

So much this.

I had never heard that speech. That was truly moving. That is a man who believed in what this nation could, and should be.

Also, what tamara said.

I voted for him twice. I was furious when he was shot.

I hope I will see another President like him in my lifetime- because we need one so badly.

There was a story in the back of a Guns magazine, or one of that family of magazines, of President Reagan serving coffee to some of his security force late at night and talking about why we would win the cold war. And the writer commenting that it was like listening to his father tell him that everything would be alright..... That is leadership.

I wish I could find a copy of that story again......

He was the first President I voted for. My wife thought I was crazy but I watched hours of his memorial viewing in the Capital. I wish I could have gone back and gone through in person. What a man!
