Finally sold the Tacoma I had been driving for fifteen years.

Always wanted a Jeep, so I said heck with it and got one. Not the most practical car for commuting, but smile per gallon factor is high.

Probably the most boring vehicle on the forum. 2008 GMC Sierra. It's 2WD with a V6 engine, doors you have to use a key on, and windows that you have to crank down, but I got when GM were about to go out of business and had their "basic" trucks marked down considerably. This put me a year out of high school with a brand new truck that I could actually afford. It's payed off now and probably has at LEAST another decade of service to offer. I'm happy with it.

Serious bonus points for posting a photo of your vehicle actually at a firing range!

At little old, but it works and it is paid off. But the repairs are starting to catch up with me. I'll probably get a new car sometime next year.

Todd, this is in the parking lot of my old shooting range. I think the owners side business was as a tire yard, as they are everywhere.

New toy.

http://www.guywheatley.com/photos/NewToy.jpg

1998 Z3 roadster. 6 cylinder, 2.8 liter engine. I got it for 6K. It had a bad miss, and I was prepared to replace, at least some, of the coil packs. But a change of plugs was all it needed. Five were beautiful chocolate brown, but the back one was carboned up pretty bad. I thought maybe it had a bad coil pack, but it has run great in the 500 miles since I changed plugs. Could have been a bad connection to the coil pack.
I'll drop another 1K on it with a new roof, new boot cover, a couple of emblems, new stereo amplifier, and getting the seats reupholstered. I've also got to chase down a leak in the hydraulics that raise and lower the roof.
I don't have plans to sell the motorcycles at the moment, but who knows. This thing is way more fun than I expected. And it's just as capable of getting me into trouble as the Valkyrie or Magna. When you stomp that right hand pedal, you'd best have some open road in front of you.

2001 Ford F150 2WD V6 - Power nothing. Still going strong. The Mrs. is currently driving it after our youngest totaled our 2003 Camry. He is now rolling in her mini van ......

The automatic transmission and air conditioning were the big upgrades from my 1988 F 150 straight 6 which had neither.

The X3 and X1 are two of the choices on my "more practical" list when my lease is up in about six months. But the call of the new 335i X-drive is difficult to pass up, and from there you really have to ask yourself why not just get a 550i X-drive? From which point a Panamera isn't really that much more, and...

I believe the current X1 is the size of my X3. And the current X3 is the size of the X5 at the time.

Anyways I love my X3, everywhere except the trunk. IMO there simply isn't enough room. I need a truck, but at this point I can't afford both.

Example pictures showing the amount of gear I have to take to the range:

Combined with the fact that I abuse my cars, my next car is likely to be a Subaru Outback with the big engine. It is 20-30k less than a X3. Probably the next time I around I will buy a truck and a 5 series, but that is probably a good 6-8 years away.

All I heard was, "The SUVs probably won't really be adequate so just get the sport sedan."

I had absolutely NO intention of buying my X3. I went to the lot to look at a new Equinox. We pulled up on the lot and as my wife stepped oiut of the care, she said, "What's that?" She was pointing to a used 2005 X3. I said, "That's a BMW Sweety. the ones we're looking at are over here." Well, the sales guy was on his toes. He suggested we just "look" at it, which lead to a test drive.
Well of course the test drive was great. So we came back and parked it then got in the Equinox. I pulled it about 40 feet, stopped, and made a deal on the X3. The Equinox was really a 2012 program car. It was about the same price as the X3 with 72K on it. It was a good call.

Depending on how much you use the all wheel drive a somewhere in the 100-150k range, your transfer case gear might become stripped as it is made out of plastic, it will appear as a 4x4 and ABS error. If you talk to the repair show, they can flip the gear 180 degrees and you will will get another 100-150k out of the gear as it only moves 45 of so degrees.. That will cost a couple of hundred versus over a grand to release the transfer case.

Have they fixed the 335 fuel pump issues? that's the main reason I sold my E92 335. When the car just quit, in the middle of a highway, the service dept said, "your car is 9 months old, and the fuel pump hasn't failed yet?". Then they put the exact same part back in, no upgrades, or updated part, but the same part they they expected to only last months. Other than that, that car was beautiful.

2008 335XI and I love it. Don't go to the 5 series, it's just more weight and the same engine IIRC. Fun to drive and can still fit the dog, fiancé and luggage for vacation. Oh and it goes like stink.

No. The '13 335i X is impressively fast but the 550i X has a significantly bigger power plant (with some reported issues but that's above my head).

lol....okay maybe not the most boring.

Regarding the "at the range" pic, was looking through my PhotoBucket account and that is honestly the only pic of my truck that I have. I remember taking the pic and posting on another forum that I liked going to the range while it was raining/overcast because most other folks tend to stay home. I LOVE having a really nice public range about ten miles from my house, but that also means, periodically, dealing with "public range" folks.

Oops! My bad, the 550 is more of a monster. I was thinking 535 in my head :p
