Hello, New member and my first post. Anyone have any experience with a Para in .45. I remember when I was a kid back in the 70's Para got a lot of print in the gun rags. Now every pistol article is Glock, HK,CZ and others. I know Para was a Canadian Company but now has been absorbed by Remington. Anyway, anybody here have one or shot one? This was a pistol when I didn't have the money that I wanted. Should I move on and spend my money somewhere else? Thanks David:confused:

There are several threads discussing them. Here’s a couple:

https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?29525-Para-double-stack-1911s

https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?33956-Remington-double-stack/page1

Did you already find these and still have some questions?

In the 70’s? Your family must’ve had a time machine. Para started selling frame kits for 1911’s in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Complete guns followed a little later. My first gun was a P14-45 in 93 right after they smoothed the frame and made it less chunky.

These days... lots of better options for your money.

I have a Para P14 in 45 and a Para P16 in 40. Used both a long time ago in USPSA "Limited" competition. Both of mine work reliably contrary to popular feedback. Mine stay in the back of the safe and rarely come out. They served a specific purpose for a specific type of pistol competition.

I don't think I've seen a Para for sale since Remington bought them out. Wish I had gotten a P14 back when they were widely available.

I bought a P-14 back in 95. Carried it in the SO Academy after it had a trip to Ed Vandenburg at Vandenburg Custom. It ran amazingly reliably through the Academy (about 2000 rounds). Won top gun with it. That being said, it rarely gets brought out now. Lighter, better options. I can have 18 rounds of 9 for less size/weight/recoil/cost.... 40oz empty plus 3 full mags got heavy.

Mine ran and still runs, but technology marches on. For a fun gun, it’s fun. For a fighting gun, there is far better theses days...

Para-Ordnance was founded in 1985. 1911s are dicey enough without introducing double-stack weirdness. The height of tactical acceptance was probably the brief and unsuccessful attempt by HRT to field Les Baer pistols built on Para frames. There's a reason why FBI adopted the Springfield Professional.

For the price of the Remington reboot I'd buy a Dan Wesson single stack all day long.

I have a Para .45 PDA (the 3" barrel compact with LDA) that has been very reliable. For a .45 ACP, it's pretty small and light, and has a good (but long) trigger pull. I'm not sure what would be "better" on today's market, but everybody has their own ideas about that. My experience with Paras with the LDA was that if they work at first they will keep on working, but if they have problems, they can be very hard to fix. My first Para was a P1245, and I still have it. It shoots well, but is just too heavy for a carry gun. Still, it's hard to argue with the advantages of having 12 + 1 .45 if things get sticky. One concern (that's mostly about the LDA models) is that parts could be hard to find in the future.

I stumbled onto an obviously carried P13-45 last year for a great price. Canadian made, no history on it, after market trigger & mag catch. Very dirty and gunked up when I got it. So I detail stripped, cleaned, & lubed it. Ordered new mags, magazine & recoil & firing pin springs. This thing has been completely reliable and runs like a top; empties mags into one hole at 15 yards when I do my part, and the slide action is very clean & smooth, without a hitch. I really appreciate this P13-45 and carry it often.

Basically it’s the same size as (and weighs a few ounces more than) my Glock31. I’m in my early 60’s, and after all these years, my lower back is beginning to notice when I carry IWB.

Absent some reason such as medical, legal, or personal preference, I generally think I would be better off to lose five pounds from my gut, instead of worrying over a few ounces of pistol. I enjoy a good meal, and can always lose five+ pounds.

Just my thoughts and worth what they cost.
