I will be conducting an AUG specific class in the spring of 2019. Likely April and in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The plan is for an easy paced two day course. The goal will be to get students to understand the benefits of the AUG rifles and maximize them and to understand the negative features and how to work around them. By specializing the material to what Pat Rogers called the Asymetric Carbine, students will get directed instruction on their rifle rather than trying to attend an AR based course and left to figure things out for themselves.
For those looking to acquire guns and accessories. I HIGHLY recommend PJ’s Steyr AUG as Pete has a very long history not just selling guns but being able to support them post sale. I recommend the new AUG A3 M1 with a rail and either a high quality low power variable or Aimpoint. Mounting optics behind the bolt locking notch is recommended. For aftermarket accessories I can recommend Corvus Defensio without hesitation. The owner is likely the top subject matter expert on the planet on running and supporting the AUG platform.
If you are planning on running a suppressed gun, do some extensive research. Just throwing a suppresor on the end of an AUG barrel is not a recipe for success. I also prefer guns that take AUG specific magazines rather than using NATO stocks to take AR pattern magazines.
Hope this helps and stand by for final dates and location.
Darryl Bolke-HiTS

As much as I would like to use this class as an excuse to drop $2K on another rifle, I'm afraid I can't. However, if someone has a loaner available, I'll happily sign up.

Oh, and buy a rifle and suppressor as well.

Did Darryl specify how many .38 cartridges are necessary for the transitions to the revolver?

If you are not carrying at least two N-frame speedloaders on your belt, and a spare J-frame in your pocket, then you are not a serious AUG user.

Darryl’s idea of a three gun class is an AUG, revolvers and barbecue.

My life circumstances have suddenly changed and I don’t believe I’ll be able to attend any training during the spring. I’m going to be very bummed to miss this class. I like my AUG more than I thought I would.

Damn, I really wish I were able to make this :( I hope someone writes up a good AAR and maybe takes some videos if possible.

If anyone in AZ wants to go and needs a loaner let me know.

Update, we had a bunch if requests for an AK class that is not the Uber Spetznaz flaming Hind helicopter type of thing. Wayne is imminently qualified to teach a solid basics of how to run the AK after spending years in Iraq doing exactly that for the Iraqi police.

So, we thought it would be interesting to do a two day “Asymetric Carbine” class for a couple very viable defense carbines that are not AR’s and the class would be on simple TTP’s for running and maintaining the AK based guns on day one and the AUG on day two. We should have some loaners of both for those who have one or the other.

I have always found that having not just passing familiarity, but actually knowing how run a variety of common systems is a solid skill set to have. Kind of like knowing how to shoot and run a Revolver, 1911, And TDA even if you just shoot Glocks. People who are familiar with how we take a solid, simple, safe, fundamentals based approach to teaching will find that we will do the exact same thing with the AK and AUG platforms.

Sir are we having trouble getting enough students for just an AUG class? While not a master with them I have enough trigger time on AK’s to know that I can run one in an emergency if it’s all I have. More importantly I have enough experience with them to know I have zero interest in anything AK. I’m all about a 2 day AUG class and will travel to Dallas for one. I’m not interested in spending a dime on AK’s.

I also have found one day classes typically don’t get in enough reps to feel like I’m building a solid skill set. I was thrilled with the opportunity to spend 2 days working the AUG with one of the few people skilled enough to teach it. I’m going to be extremely disappointed with anything less.

This is always a balance. I will take this into account. I have learned the hard way that people saying they will spend the coin to come to a class and then actually paying and showing up is another. That experience comes with a deep financial penalty in the lessons learned department. The AK/AUG idea came from students actually in a class....basically, the ones who have shown up. I am still working through this and on a facility. I will keep folks updated. The other option my be an AUG class this year and an AK class on the same format next year.

A two-day class, 1 day AUG primer with DB and 1 day AK primer with WD.... I can’t commit just yet (sorry, thems the facts at the moment) but that’s a newsletter I’d subscribe too. Heck, if I’m going. To make a trip... do shotgun on Friday too and make it three days.

I appreciate the consideration and I get that you can be left holding the bag if people back out. I’d like to think between here and LF we have a higher caliber of student and would not leave you hanging.

As for AK’s I actually shot a friend’s Yugo yesterday while at the range zeroing the optic on my AUG. While his rifle is nice enough (for an AK), I was reminded why I have no use for antique weapons.

I’m definitely in for a 2 or even 3 day AUG class. But I can’t justify the time and cost of travel for a one day class.

Every time I find myself in the Caribbean and Mexico I'm always somewhat comforted by the fact that while I may not be able to take my gun with me I at least have spent the time over the years learning to run just about every infantry weapon and handgun in widespread use.....just in case... ;)

Folks need to sign up for this class.

I understand not wanting to be left holding the bag with a class. When I ran my company we would not cancel a class due to students backing out. I ran several classes with one student and lost money doing so.

That being said I am still interested in an AUG class, but not an AK class. There's a reason I no longer own an AK...

I was stoked for finally seeing an AUG specific class getting set in motion. A little disappointed to see the AUG specific content getting diluted.

I also have no interest in an AK class. Would much prefer the original concept of AUG only training.

2 days of AUG in the DFW area interests me (Frisco area would be perfect).
AK anything... not so much (I have 2 Spam cans of 5.45x39 and a bunch of wood grain '74 mags, but I chop sawed that POS rifle a long time ago).

Still working on a facility. I am leaning to doing a two day AUG this year and a two day AK next year based on the responses.

Sorry....I rarely get on here anymore. Obviously April isn’t happening. I may have found a venue that would work but I am looking at some future stuff coming up that may be better suited to getting close to a place with an airport. I have numerous irons in the fire and it will take about a month to sort through it. I ll try to update this thread as things get clearer. There is also a possibility of maybe a non-Texas location which would likely be Vegas or Phoenix.

Roger that. This month in Texas was easily done for me. I’ll do my best to make it when and where you end up holding it, but going west isn’t likely. Obviously the course isn’t centered in my schedule. Lol!

Has there been any further action with this idea? My life has settled down again and I’d be able to attend an AUG class now. I’d be less interested in an AK class as I don’t own one and likely won’t own one for some years.
