I bought a new TV last week, 49” Samsung QLED. I game on an Xbox One X.

For the money I spent, $697, it’s absolutely outstanding. No tear or blur I have noticed.

49” may be small for people with huge living rooms, the 55” models are 1000+

I'm in the market after our recent Samsung Customer Disservice Experience from Costco. I will never buy another Samsung product as long as I live.

What are the aspects of TVs that reduce blurring?

I'm not a TV nerd, but am generally familiar with electronics. We are looking at at least 65" possible larger if budget can stretch, 4K because why not.

I am seeing big jumps in price from 120Hz refresh (say $800) to 240Hz refresh ($3,000+). Can anyone elaborate on whether refresh rate or some other marketing BS term is worth such a big jump in price?

I do have to confess after staring at the more expensive (240) units at the Box Stores, I could tell they were "better" (subjective) to me than the cheaper (120) sets.

Amazon has the Kershaw Blur in S30V for $54 today and the standard Blur for $35-40.

I already had a blue Blur in the standard Sanvik but I got the S30V model. They are great knives and it's normally about $75-80 on Amazon with an MSRP of $150 or so. Great deal.

Some brands advertise 120 when it’s only native 60. I actually prefer native 120 to 240, so certainly the extra cost isn’t worth it to me. And I am a tv geek/user and heavy gamer.

Damn, I’m still rocking an 8yo 50” Samsung LCD. No problems and doesnt blur even with PS4, unlike my even older plasma. I just keep that plasma set up in the basement to have the ball game on in the background though. Top of the line when I got it, and I couldn’t give it away now.

Believe it or not, I’m all set up with “gun stuff” but I may convince myself I need a 10.5” upper if PSA is giving them away.

We got one as a wedding present 17 years ago and use it regularly. We even use the PTO with various attachments (my latest fav is the veggie spiralizer for making lo-carb "noodles").

If you or your wife like to cook, it's a worthy tool.

If I were to buy a new one fo just general purpose baking and occasional use, I’d buy it from whatever retailer has the cheapest and best extended warranty. If I were to buy for multiple times a week use like mine used to see, I would look for a vintage model or spring for a commercial grade machine like a Hobart. Those th8ngs are tanks.

A KitchenAid with a hideous pink cover sits on my kitchen counter, unused, 99% of the time. We've had the damn thing since we got married 7 years ago. I've hauled it through four apartments. I hate that fucking thing. My wife uses it about once a year to make cookies or something. Otherwise, she uses a hand mixer that cost 20 bucks or the countertop food processor (which is used WAY more often) for everything else.

That said, I would never tell my wife I hate that thing. She likes it and puts up with me rebuilding transmissions or porting cylinder heads in the dining room; so even trade.

I hate that fucking thing. My wife uses it about once a year to make cookies or something. Otherwise, she uses a hand mixer that cost 20 bucks or the countertop food processor (which is used WAY more often) for everything else.

That said, I would never tell my wife I hate that thing. She likes it and puts up with me rebuilding transmissions or porting cylinder heads in the dining room; so even trade.

This cracked me up. Sounds like a good marriage.

I thought they were one of the retail outlets that made a show of dropping ARs from their inventory and making sure they appealed to the "progressive" crowd. I'll admit I have trouble keeping up. Though I know I sent correspondence to REI and a follow-up after I was less than satisfied by their response.


They never stopped selling them. But they did pull them from from being on display. You had to ask the counter guy to see any black rifle.

And it was only temporary for a few weeks after one of the mass shootings.

I viewed it as smart at the time. Demanding Moms were making noise about boycotts. Most of Academy's revenue comes from youth sports and family activities. Imagine that some "journalist" takes a photo of a person checking out an AR in front of the five feet out of a 50-foot wall that happens to be thick with inexpensive ARs, and runs it as the lead in an editorial in the NYT calling for a boycott. Then MDA busses in a bunch of unemployed people from another state with nothing better to do than march and chant in front of Academy stores protesting their support of the baby-killing weapons of mass destruction. Then local low-information soccer moms buy into it and decide to buy their kids' sports equipment somewhere else.

All it takes to prevent that is removing the visual until things blow over.

Furthermore, Academy is a locally-owned business here in Houston, and they stepped up big time to help out, providing product, manpower and staging/rest/recover location space to rescuers when Harvey came through.

Assuming the quality didn’t slip after Zev acquired Mega that upper is a pretty good deal. The description says the gas system is pistol length even though the photo appears to be a mid-length to me. It might be worth contacting Midway to make sure before placing an order.

JSE Surplus is still doing a private label version of the Mega forged upper and lower combo, made by the entity formerly known as Mega. And they're priced lower. Also available individually. So if you liked those parts, they seem to still be available, just with a different name engraved. I've had my FFL for a long time and don't frequent gun stores much less the Big Box stores for gun purchases very often. However their price on the PCC's were cheaper than anything I've been able to find online.

The in-store purchase experience sucked. What should be a 15 minute transaction takes Academy almost an hour. They certainly have the process dumbed down so that any sales associate can sell a firearm. They have 3 different people look over the 4473 before they walk you to the register. They finally hand the gun to you outside of the store.

I understand the redundancy in checking the 4473 but they I've never waited so long to purchase a weapon. I was the only one buying a gun during this entire process.

The attachments are only the clip or retractor for 12 or 10. They don't include the Sidekick, which is separate and is 19.95. It is a little confusing, Surefire's other product pages also have recommended accessories offered in the same format. The sidekick with that clip looks like a nice backup to a primary tactical light.

Just wanted to update on my Black Friday BCG from Sons of Liberty Gun Works.

They sent me the wrong item (their standard BCG) but rectified it also immediately, so I got the chance to handle both their standard BCG and the NP3 coated BCG.

Impressed is an understatement, especially for the NP3 one. Build quality is equal to or greater than my Daniel Defense M4V1 BCG. I am a happy customer for both the product and the quick fix of an issue.

That was the first thing I noticed. I take great pride in my 2011-vintage Daniel Defense, I had honestly never handled components that were made better, but if there was ever a contender, this thing is it. I keep passing it on the counter and picking it up and messing with it instead of putting it away. Very excited to use it as the backbone of a 20" build, probably with a White Oak barrel.

I finally got my Sidekicks.

They had been delivered November 30th to my neighbors. The neighbor was in the hospital so her daughter had been collecting their mail. I went by yesterday and asked if they’d seen them, she hadn’t but said she would check. They found them with all of their mail in the daughters car and dropped them off today.
