A well written opinion piece (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/17/opinion/elizabeth-warren-dna-trump-native-american.html) from the NYT by Ross Douthat...

Warren should not have taken the test; having taken it, she should not have publicized it; having publicized it, she should quietly fire anyone who urged this gambit and move on. And liberals generally should regard this whole thing as a cautionary tale. There is an obvious appetite on the activist left for a candidate or candidates willing to take on Trump on his own brawler’s terms. But if you come at him that way, you best not miss — as Michael Avenatti, the would-be Trump of the Resistance, has been missing repeatedly of late, with a Kavanaugh intervention that helped get the judge confirmed and a libel lawsuit that just got his own client ordered to pay Trump’s legal fees.

Now Warren has joined Avenatti in that loser’s gallery, for absolutely no good reason that I can see. Her self-own isn’t the biggest deal in the world, and her partisans are right that if mostly conservatives are agitated by the fiasco then it might not hurt her much. But a “front-runner” who’s polling at 8 percent needs to be showing reasons other candidates should be pre-emptively intimidated, and why the party should decide on her. And the fact that we’re talking, for no good reason, about a fragment of Elizabeth Warren’s DNA three weeks before an essential midterm is a sign that she shouldn’t exactly terrify her rivals yet.

I thought it was a good move by Warren to show minority voters that a privileged white woman shares in their struggles. If Dems want to motivate voters in mid-terms, I'm pretty sure that this is not how you do it.

Everybody knows that the daily struggles of rich & privileged white women resonates deeply in the minority communities.
Especially the pressures of maintaining a proper work/life balance as both a successful businesswoman and a mother!

The stress involved in her pursuit of living a harmonious feng shui lifestyle must be enormous.

(The clash of cultures alone, in one such as her, must be unimaginable.)

And Tom Kratman delivers.
The Song of Lieawatha By Tom Kratman | According To Hoyt (https://accordingtohoyt.com/2018/10/18/the-song-of-lieawatha-by-tom-kratman/)

Part the First

By the banks of the Charles River,
Right across the shining gilt dome,

On the application job-worth,
Near the old prestigious brick yard,
Lieawatha, also known as
Spreading Bull and Fauxcahontas,
Filled her out the little boxes
Checked she off the lie, “Cherokee.”
Never thinking she’d be found out
Thinking much of salary bloated
Contemplating huge fees speaking
Prestige endless, public office.
Thought she, “What’s one little white lie;
Lesser still one little red one?”
In she turned the application.
Made she Harvard swoon in virtue
“Have we now our red professor!
Better still, red not in one way,
But in two, with massive virtue,
From her ancestors oppressed.”
Drew she then the massive salary
As her students became debt-slaves.
Ran she then for public office,
With her resume of virtue,
And she won but still some noticed
That her story didn’t add up.
Yet lived she in Massachusetts
Where the palatable lie is
Infinitely preferable
To the truth, hard and unvarnished,
Just provided that the students
And the professoriate loony
Can still feel their wondrous virtue,
Signaling it to the whole world.
The rest is at the link.

White people did some pretty rotten things to the Indians over the years. But making them take Elizabeth Warren on top of it? That’s just mean.

...Massholes ...

My wife learned this word last week as I was driving in Boston traffic on the way to Vt/NH/Maine/Quebec.

By the end of the trip she was using it fluently [emoji1]

That is a good line. But one thing that disturbs me is that there is plenty of sanctimonious (virtue signaling) behavior going around these days but the fashionable trend seems to be to point it out when it's white folks who need to be handed a reality check.

IMHO, if we're ever to progress as a society and nation, we need to call it out wherever it rears it's head. Whether it's Elizabeth Warren or Angela Rye. Don Lemon or Laura Ingraham. I'm really sort of worn out by this giving a pass to certain groups which confers privileges neither earned nor deserved.

Everyone should meet the same standard of approbation or ire. Absent that, we have failed as a people and only give lip service to goals we have no intention of meeting or attaining.

Call out those who spread false "truths", regardless of the group they belong to...racial, ethnic, political, religious or national origin.

No one gets a pass just so you can feel like your one of the cool kids. No one gets extra privileges by playing the same old divisive hand.

Fortunately I didn’t have to deal with the local riff-raff or crime, mostly stayed in Haverhill and went to the office which was in one of the refurbished garment district factories. It was actually a pretty cool office and location, Lawrence factor excluded.

The only reason that wackjob released those results is she knew she could absolutely count on the MSM to promote the notion that 1/512th or 1/1024th is "strong evidence".

They did just that.

Another good one:
But Senator Warren has not dug into Cherokee history, language, or culture. She simply used the fiction of her Cherokee identity to get something she wanted — a little political leg up on the rest of the sanctimonious white ladies. That’s cheap, vulgar, and wrong — and the Cherokee are right to be annoyed by it. And if Texas Democrats really want a Hispanic name on the ballot to put up against Senator Cruz, then they might consider — here’s a radical thought! — nominating someone of Hispanic heritage as their candidate. As for Rachel Dolezal — my best guess is that being Rachel Dolezal is its own punishment.

You realize that people from Massachusetts believer that blinker fluid causes cancer so they don't use their blinkers. Therefore, Mass people believe all lanes are theirs. I had to dip my toes south of the border earlier this week and I just feel dirty after visiting Mass. #WhereIsMyBorderWall (https://pistol-forum.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=WhereIsMyBorderWall) ?

Relative side note: My (verifiable) great-grandmother on my mother's side was full blooded native american. My aunt on my dad's side, who happens to live in MA, called when I was college age and said I should come to MA and claim my native american ancestry for discounted tuition. I can't wrap my head around that type of thinking.

You must be the only special case to have fled Long Island I guess.

(Unless Massholes is a term only for those folks from MA that don't support your particular point of view, and not everyone in the state.)

When I sought asylum in NC 15 years ago I didn't really think it my place to determine who else was welcome...but I did my level best to fit in.

A lot of good people on this board are refugees from repressive states. A lot of good folks still live in them...and many of 'em serve.

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

(Apologies in advance for dragging out the soapbox. It's not personal.)

(Unless Massholes is a term only for those folks from MA that don't support your particular point of view, and not everyone in the state.)

No shit, Sherlock.

I use the term for those who wish to transform NH into another socialist state like MA. These are basically MA residents who feel morally superior for their support of social programs (supported by high taxes), gun control, etc. but live in NH for the lower cost of living. Not that I really give a shit about that, but what really pushes it over the top is that they bring their liberal votes with them to their southern NH bedroom communities. Most of them are hypocritical Massholes like this one (http://www.southcoasttoday.com/article/20090902/news/909020340). Fucking Massholes.

FWIW #1, the term "Masshole" was originally intended for the reckless driving often seen with vehicles wearing MA plates.

FWIW #2, our daughter lives in Boston making a living as a nurse at Mass General Hospital. She was on the front lines of triage in the aftermath of the Marathon Bombings, caring for some of the most critically wounded (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCvkC2J1GCE). She and her co-workers are anything but Massholes.

FWIW #3, the company I work has its corporate HQ in MA. Most of the people I work with - including one shooting enthusiast who stays in MA due to family constraints - I do not consider Massholes either.

Here it is Sunday morning, maybe your soapbox could use a fresh coat of paint?
