So I've rented this thing 2 whole times for longer range days. If I rent it a 3rd time I have to get one per my SOP...... I have a gun list of things to get before I stop buying guns, yes I'm sticking to it. I've got 10 pistols on that list remaining and tie up my rifles. But I reaaaaaaly like the P225 A1, it's a baby Legion in a lot of ways. I shoot it very well and I like it once it's loaded/firing it. Now, I hate reloading it because of how the magazines are shaped and they just don't reload fast for me. Now I almost certainly won't carry it, maybe sometimes. I'm also looking very hard at the threaded barrel version to pair with an omega 9k for a small 9mm suppressed gun. I really do like it and I think I can get one on the lower end. I walked away from a range gun that was seldom rented with no box and 1 mag for $450, and I regret it. The finish was immaculate and I was almost certain that I was one of like 3 people to rent the pistol.

That said, do I really need it and with an abbreviated list left, is there something better I can roll in there? I have enough guns for sure to cover my serious bases and I'm not worried about the 10 guns I'm adding on the list below necessarily filling a need, save a few maybe. The Shadow II is a solid gun, but I'm getting it for pure enjoyment.

So anyone with a P225 A1 or 225 A1 TB with some long term use and is it worth getting with 10 pistols left? I do love it, but I'm on the fence.

FOR REFERENCE:
I've got 18 HK's, 1 P226 Legion 9mm DA/SA, 1 Beretta Centurion, 2 G34's, and a few long arms. Skipping the long arm list because I am completely confident in it.....for reference these are the 10 pistols I plan to close out my gun collection:

SIG Legion P226 DA/SA (Backup and I'll get a TB for my current Legion for a can)
SIG P225A1 Threaded barrel
CZ75 Shadow II (because it's amazing)
HK VP9sk
HK USP 45T
HK USP 45 OD green (buying a nice used one
HK45CT
HK P30 (replace one I sold)
G17 G5 (picking one up when I get home)
DW Specialist (picking up with Taxes)

Might switch one of the HK's out for a Sig scorpion 1911 for a suppressed 1911.........and because it looks amazing.

Recently sampled the pistol. Accurate at 25 yards, fits my hand, just a solid pistol. i dont think Id ever carry it because of its price, a p30sk or a p30 would be my choice given their new prices. But I like you am smitten with the p225....

I believe the berlin police adopted the VP9 as their side arm - and I suspect a number of p6 trade ins are in thethe market. perhaps a german p225 is your best choice? certainly more affordable.....

Just to clarify - the original P225 /P6 and the current P225A1 are not the same gun and despite the name, magazines and most parts are not interchangeable.

If you like and have a burn for it, and can afford it, I can't see a reason not to get one.

Navy,

I just sold my P225-A1 with night sights, threaded barrel and three extra mags a couple of months ago. Great gun with an amazing trigger, the P225-A1 is effectively a "mini-legion". They are super accurate and fun to shoot. That said, I just didn't see having $1000 tied up in a single stack nine that really didn't do anything better than my P30sk, USPc and a Glcok 19 with effectively twice the capacity in pretty much the same dimensional package.

Many moons ago when I collected Sigs it was my favorite Sig to carry (the original P225) as a P228 was too chunky and the P239's (now discontinued) grip felt like crap. If you want one just because then by all means get one. If you do decide to scratch the itch, be sure to check and make sure that the one you get has a decent slide to frame fit. Two of the three I had rattled like the dickens after just 100 rounds. Sig manufacturing isn't what it used to be it seems. If you do get a loose one, order some "Eno's slide glide' off of amazon. It is a thick lubricant that doesn't break down under heat and it really helps with a loose frame fit Sig. And before any one gets a case of anal hyper clench, no the loose fit doesn't impact the reliability at all. I personally do not care for a loose frame/slide fit. A throw back from my disposable cash, custom 1911 days. OMMV.

Good luck and let us know if you snag one.

I picked up one in a trade last year. After dogging it, simply based on the documented specs(size & capacity) I wasn't expecting much but was getting a trade of other stuff that I wanted.

The P225A1 was the only one I ended up keeping out of that trade. My wife loves it, as it has a very controllable recoil pulse and the reduced grip made it easier for her to control. Easy for me too with my size small hands. It's also thin in all the right places and makes for a good conceal carry gun. It is a nice compliment to the P229.

If I had to remove 1 pistol off your list and replace it with a P225A-1, I'd drop the G17.5 since you already have a pair of G34s.

I am struggling partially because of the 10 pistol limit I've installed on myself, and adding a single stack 9mm that's about G19 sized is wearing on me. I know the gun is good, and I know it's a great running pistol. It is a bit of coin to get one too if I miss a deal. So I am worried about that aspect. The magazines are also HK VP9 money or more in some places which bothers me because once again.....single stack. I know it's a sweetheart gun, and it's a blast to shoot.

Additionally the P6/P225's are going to be off the list for me. It's a P225A1 or nothing, because much like the Legion 226, it's exactly what I want/am looking for in that particular platform. It'd be like if HK rereleased the P7M8 with a series of slight refinements enhancing the original experience. Single stack doesn't bother me, I just wish people made a 10 round mag for it. Which would extend smile factor and aid in the reload issue I have.

I should get past that everything can't be 100% perfect.....though to me some guns make it there easily. The Legion P226, HK45, VP9 and a few others make it there for me. But since this isn't going to be a carry gun, just a fun gun and suppressor host from time to time, maybe I need to relax my standards a touch.....just for this pistol.

Just get it. Especially if you get a used one, it won't cost you money: you can get it, enjoy it, and then if you get done with it, not lose anything when you sell it. Or you can keep it forever and get buried with it because you "irrationally" fell in love with it.

The P225-A1 is basically a P239, from what I gather. And as a P239 fan, I've always been curious about the A1. A slightly more hand-filling grip (a la the A1) seems like it might be a worthy update to the P239 platform.

I'll be completely honest, though... the main thing that's kept me from buying one is the "new Sig" stigma. My 2006 LEO trade-in P239 (9mm) has been excellent... I'm just wary that I'll get the same level of quality from a newly made, off-the-shelf Sig.

I have ~6000 rounds through mine and carry it every day. Here is a thread on it: https://pistol-forum.com/archive/index.php/t-24794.html

Only changes I've made is an Ameriglo Orange front sight and a 19lb hammer spring that has been totally reliable.

Changed the recoil spring at 5k rounds. It is a gun I have a passion for, just was never as excited about my Glock. Still love my HK45c but I'm not shooting 45 all the time.

That's a solid endorsement. I really can't recall reading about anyone having problems them. I suppose it has a good pedigree, with P239 DNA--which also seemed to have a pretty clean record, in recent years.

Thanks for the feedback, I feel pretty solid with the purchase the more I think about it and this was a solid experience based account I was looking for. I appreciate it and I think she'll make a solid addition to the safe.

The front sight I ordered is on sale right now, good deal: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010OO0GCI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My front sight wasn't too tight, punch and rubber mallet worked fine with a sight pusher (for the wrong gun) able to make small adjustments.

Hammer spring set, 16, 17, 18, and 19 pounds. I did the 19 for reliability https://www.gunsprings.com/SIG-SAUER%20(SIGARMS)/P225,%20P228,%20P229/cID1/mID4/dID253#295

I'm not after anything Sig at the moment, but this is a really sharp looking pistol...

^^^ Yes, those wood grips look even better in person. My primary pistol is a 226, and my wife’s was a M11 A-1, so these are my two favorite guns. That being said, I’m very intrigued by the 225, and would love to shoot one, and wonder where it would fall in line with my favorites.
