Hello,

How come there are no 11.5 300 blackout uppers out there?

It’s my understanding that I could use my already approved/ owned 11.5 “ 5.56 lower and just swap a 300 upper on?

Whole idea is for a hunting gun with can.

I’m only 1/2 retarded; tell me why this is a bad idea.

Thanks!

It is not a bad idea. Keep in mind that for 5.56 mm AR15's, 11.5" is about as short as you want to go, however with .300 BLK that can be dropped down to the 8-9" range which is why most of the short .300 BLK's are around 9" or so...

Plus adding a can on a 9" barrel still keeps AOL very carbine-like.

Don’t really want to get another stamp for different lengths. All I have now is stamp for 11.5

Just seemed strange that nobody make it in 300blk. Thought there must be reasons I didn’t know about.

Doc you are why I picked 11.5 reference the 5.56

Thanks gents.

That's not how that works, fyi. Without getting into the mechanics of it, you just need to let ATF know of the additional configuration. Perfectly fine to have one SBR lower with various length and caliber upper configurations.

You beat me to it.

OP, be sure to send ATF a letter telling them how you plan to modify anything listed in Section 4 of your Form 1. See this link for details;

Ok wow. That’s definitely not how ATF phone rep explained it when I was in process with my form a few years ago.

Thanks again guys!

Just be sure to keep whatever upper you used when creating the specifications for the stamp. That way you can always quickly revert back to the original configuration

At least that's how I understand things

You do NOT need to notify the ATF that you also have a shorter upper.
