This is a few weeks old, but since a search didn't turn it up here:

On May 3, 2018, Gun Owners of America (GOA) filed a joint amicus brief in the case of Texas et al v United States, more commonly known as "Texas v Obamacare".

As much as I can understand it, the brief is an argument against the individual mandate portion of the ACA ("Obamacare").

Whether or not GOA has a legitimate legal argument, the optics can't help us. "Gun group opposes health care" is just another distraction that we're going to have to defend whenever this comes up.

GOA just trying to stay relevant. Unsuccessfully.

Here's another example of a group straying from its mission for ideological reasons:

Why is there a long thread complaining about doctors that opine about gun control. So gun organizations can opine about health care programs? Unless it directly affects gun rights, just can it. It is adopted political positions outside of gun rights that makes some organizations look bad.

Cliff Notes on GOA, please.

Gun Owners of America is basically the Larry Pratt cocaine and hookers fund. It bills itself as the “hardcore” gun rights group, because the NRA is too soft for them. Basically, every time NRA does something political, GOA gets up and beats their drum about how they’ll never sell you out, and then a couple more dumbdicks who don’t understand how politics work donate to Larry Pratt’s new BMW fund.

Of course, GOA has never achieved a single legislative or judicial win of any type, doesn’t have a lobbyist on staff on the Hill, so it’s hard to see how they’re representing my rights.

This is what I think of when I see GOA.
Maybe I'm exaggerating.?
