Miss America is scrapping its swimsuit competition and will no longer judge contestants based on physical appearance, the organization announced Tuesday.

"We are no longer a pageant," Gretchen Carlson, the first former Miss America to be named chair of the Board of Trustees of the Miss America Organization, said on "GMA." "We are a competition."

This will increase ratings for sure. Definitely a smart move. Trigglypuff approved.

Now they can run it like the college admissions process, and it will be just about as interesting.

Reality is looks matter (especially to men), and I tell my girlfriend thank you for always trying to look pretty. It means a lot to me.

Just like a guy who has no serious plan for life, they ain't that appealing.

My niece was Miss Alaska in 1991. I wonder what she thinks of this?

My daughter was involved in pageants during highschool and I worked security for the big state pageant one year. That was a bigger hive of scum and villainy than Mos Eisley.

Does the Mr. Universe competition have talent and Q&A segments?

Can't remember.

Each competitor would say that she was started a foundation for a cause. I wonder how many existed or still exist. In a way, it mirrors the problems of college admissions - pure academic achievement like the SATs or GPA are being abandoned. However, the SATs are watered down and grade inflation killed the GPA. So you get rich kids going to Africa to do charity work (hey, start a foundation). Kids who had to work a crappy summer job as they needed the money are at a disadvantage. Most of those after school extracurriculars are seen as a joke and fraudulent by the kids.

So it's the same for the pageants - why bother to have a scholarship competition ( a good thing) as a TV show? It will end up in the WGACRap network ( # 2353 on your screen).
