Buy a new stem or is this the perfect time to buy Hornady dies with 100 free bullets?

Redding offers a lifetime warranty. Unless you abused it, they will replace it for free.

I've never broken a Lee decapper. Just FYI.

I have

Then I discovered Squirrel Daddy replacement pins (https://www.amazon.com/Hardened-Steel-Decapping-Upgrade-90783/dp/B018V7L3C2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524357705&sr=8-1&keywords=squirrel+daddy+decapping+pin), I strongly recommend them.

Thanks for the link.

Would this work in a Lee 308 die?

I have started using my Lee dies with the collet just barely tight enough to push out the typical primer and have not broken one since. If something pushes it up I just tap it back down with a hammer.

The Squirrel Daddy pins look cool though.

I was going to ask WTF your problem is that you broke a stem, but then I remembered that I have bent/broken two of them. Well, actually I bent them, it was a large redneck (me) and a bench vise that broke them trying to straighten them out. So obviously it's just a normal part of reloading. ;)

The #poorfag (https://pistol-forum.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=poorfag) move is to call Redding and cry until they send you a replacement, which is what I did (except it was RCBS).

I am guessing so. I reckon that I'll call Redding tomorrow, hope they don't take too long.

Filled out an RMA report on their website last night, no word yet.

I've got several sets of Hornady dies and the decapping stem is bent on every one of them. Not a straight one in the bunch. The weak point is where the "cap" for the decapping pin itself screws onto the stem. It's a weak point and bends. Stick with Redding...

Still haven't heard back from Redding.

I suggest calling them at 607/753-3331 during EDT business hours as they are located in New York State.

Yup, that's the plan this morning, I'm in the same time zone. I emailed them at the address provided (http://www.redding-reloading.com/how-to-return-products-for-warranty-repair) on Sunday night with lots of pictures. I'm surprised that Cuomo hasn't ran them out of the state yet.

Funny timing, as I just got off of the phone this morning with both Hornady and RCBS to troubleshoot an issue I'm having. My short response is that both companies have been stellar so far in regards to support. RCBS has in the past sent me a replacement stem and pins when I came across a BASTAGE piece of brass with an off-center flash hole. They're also currently sending out to me a replacement spring-loaded stem (?) to fix an odd problem I'm having with CCI primers sticking to the pin.

I'll certainly continue to support both companies...

Totally agree. All reloaders need to call the Hornady 1-800 number and listen to the menu options. They are a riot!

I've had RCBS send stuff on multiple occasions from nothing more than an email question. I throw in a 5 pack of decapping pins on almost every Midway order out of guilt now. And Redding polished a profile crimp die free of charge when it measured in tolerance, plus the guy I was conversing with was the one that took it to the shop and actually did the work. When I got it back, it worked perfectly for my oversize cast bullets.

I wish the reloading equipment industry would teach CS in throughout this country because I've never seen better CS.

Squirrel Daddy pins ordered....

A bit of official info on how to set the decapping rod tension.

Broke the end of the decapping rod (not the decapping pin, the part that is threaded). I have no idea why this happened, I was decapping with a Lee Universal. Redding won't fix this second failure, they said so in an email. Guess I'll grab a Hornady resizing die.

Out of my pack of three Squirrel Daddy decapping pins, only one remains unbent. I think the pin is too long for the material used. Also, the transition from the pin to the pin shaft is fairly abrupt and I've dinged quite a few 223 case mouths with these pins. Sorry to say these don't really appear to offer anything over the factory Lee pin. At least not in my experience.

Mighty Armory is making a universal decapping die that's been getting good reviews. I see that they're also making a 223 sizing die that has some unique features. The die is kind of pricey but not out of line with what some other makers are charging.

https://www.mightyarmory.com/collections/made-in-the-usa/products/ma223fl-sizing-die-coming-soon

I can only assume that MA is also working on other dies. I'm sure a 9mm, 308 and a few other sizing dies are in the works.

Another option might be the replacement Lee pin from Fast and Friendly Brass. This is a pin that fits the universal Lee die but uses an RCBS decapping pin. What seems odd to me about this is that he doesn't sell the pin as an assembled unit. The purchaser has to buy and install the RCBS pins after the fact...
