I wasn't sure the best place to post this, but I figured it would get the most views in General Discussion.

Of all the old videos I have watched, this is the one that I find the most fascinating and enjoyable.

Awesome. Thanks for posting that. Love the recessed chamber 66.

You are welcome. Hopefully others have ones they would like to share.

The simplicity and quality of this video, that was made when I was 2 years old, is better than any training video I have been required to watch.

So some gear questions for those of you who got to do the job during that time.

What kind of footwear did you have? The boots in that video look ok, but not sure how much support/stability the give.

Were dump pouches or individual loops better for reloading ?

Thanks for posting. Reminds that the definition of an optimist is the man who carries a speedloader (yet I own plenty). I always love seeing "state of the art" from the past, and using it as a reminder that our present age will be nostalgic someday.

There's some good B&W LAPD vids floating around, too, for those ambitious enough to use Google (as I am not at the present moment), as well as some great WWII videos on the 1911.

Re the “boots”:

They are chukka shoes, and were my favorites for uniform wear. Unfortunately, Bates stopped making them sometime in the late ‘90s forcing me to switch to Danner boots. They were extremely comfortable and took a great shine. I never had the Corfam ones. More support than low quarters.

Re loops vs pouches:

Loops are faster and less fumble prone, but expose the ammo to the elements and can lead to development of verdigris on the brass cartridge cases if not constantly inspected. Also took up more belt space, not as big a deal back then with a lot less crap carried on the Sam Browne. They also make it possible to do a partial reload if you didn’t fire all 6 and wanted to top off. At one point in my career I carried 6 rounds in loops and 2 speedloaders in a vertical oriented configuration that only took up a little more space than 2 speedloaders carried side by side. I also carried pouches with Bianchi speedstrips which was my favorite method if not carrying speedloaders.

Not sure exactly how well this fits the bill from a shooting standpoint, but it is an old police training video, so I figured some people would be interested nonetheless. I, like many people, was introduced to "Surviving Edged Weapons" through Red Letter Media's "Best of the Worst" series, where a group of film nerds/drunks grab a handful of random/weird/bad videos, watch all three, and choose their favorites.

As it turns out, not only did they find it informational, they found it genuinely entertaining and well directed. Having watched it, I can't disagree - it's often graphic, sometimes emotional, and always informative. It kept 100% of my attention the whole way through. Definitely worth an hour and a half of anyone's time.

Thank you! They showed me this in my academy in 2007 on a VHS tape.

There are a bunch more. These were a staple in my Academy in the late 80s. Dave Smith is the best!

Agreed. We showed this in our training for years and I still have a VHS copy somewhere.

Yesterday this thread (and the Thunder Ranch thread (https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?27200-I-do-enjoy-Thunder-Ranch), again) was reported to, or determined by, Google to be in violation of the Adsense policies. According to Google this thread has no content, or little to no value.

Apologies if it caused you any difficulties.

Is there much rhyme or reason to these things?

Interesting how they went from crouching in the 1960s to "shooting from the field interrogation stance" in the 1990s.
