At 30-feet, a 30-grain pill at 1290 FPS would have sufficient energy to penetrate the skull and drop the bear. And anatomically speaking, the sidewall of the braincase where the animal was hit is probably the thinnest section of the skull on a bear. Not sure which shot was first, but that section of the brain would be responsible for motor control, so I could see it "dropping" more or less instantly.

Still...not the kind of way I'd want to hunt a bear...that woman was a tough customer. She looks a lot like my great grandmother did...and she was another woman you didn't want to screw with.
