I'm looking for an AIWB holster for a J frame. I'd prefer some type of belt attachment that isn't a thread through belt loop, but some type of durable clip for easy on/off.

Does anyone have experience with the Mr. Softy?

I'm open to other suggestions, and I prefer options that are readily available.

Check out Sideguard Holsters-
http://sideguardholsters.com/holsters/QuickClip.htm

I've got the tuckable one (Tuck Clip) for a j-frame but I haven't used it much because the clip sucks on the Wilderness belt I normally wear, but it is comfortable. It looks like he's now using the "C" type clips that High Noon uses, and I may get one for the G26 that I may be getting:cool:

Looks nice. Does that have enough clearance for CT grips?

I've never used them but on the main IWB Holster page he lists "J-frames w/CT option" so it sounds like either it does or he can make it that way.

I have this for an LCR.
http://shop.talontraininggroup.com/Ruger-LCR-J-Frame-Colt-38-IWB-LCR-IWBS.htm

They have a clip version.

Works for me. Supposedly it fits J-frames too, and does have clearance for CT grips, and they have them in stock. I ran a left handed holster through a class as my back up gun in AIWB with no problems.

I've got my eye on this:
DeSantis Flex-Tuk
http://www.desantisholster.com/store/SEARCH-BY-GUN-MANUFACTURER/SW/J-60-3/inside-the-waistband-holsters/flex-tuck

The Flex-Tuk™ tuck-able IWB for the S&W J frame 2” can be worn comfortably as a appendix carry or a cross draw and everything in-between. Its specially formed mouth allows effortless re-holstering. It’s fitted with our polymer “C” clip for easy adjustment. Our highly concealable J clip and hex key are also supplied to aid in re-holstering.

They're in stock on Midway.

That Desantis seems to have the same cut as the Summer Heat, which won't accept the CT grips.

While it has a single loop, and I am not sure what other mounting options he has, Tom at Dark Star made me the most awesome AIWB for a J frame. It is thin, trim, and all I could hope for. I got if left handed for a BUG, but my wife immediately claimed it for herself, for use under girlie clothes. My replacement is on the way any day.

Thanks much. My small gun holsters are single loops with a slight hump to mount to, revolvers require a short strut and appear to work well based on the response.

Thanks, I just ordered the loop version.

I used the Talon for a while, but had to stop because it lacked sufficient retention to keep the gun secure when running/sprinting. After a while, it reminded me of a bucket wrapped in leather, rather than a holster.

I'm now the happy owner of an AIWB holster from orionz06/Dark Star Gear (http://www.darkstargear.com/). It's a lot more comfortable than the Talon. I think the comfort comes from the slim nature of Kydex, rather than leather with a reinforced mouth. The J-Frame really does disappear, and I forget that I'm wearing it.

Disclosure: I didn't buy the holster. But that doesn't impact my opinion, it's really well done.

I used a Talon holster for a while and recently switched to a Clip-Draw on my S&W 360.
Works pretty dang well with jeans and a belt, does not work with CT Lasergrips though.
The gun is actually more secure with the Clip-Draw than it was in the Talon.
I have a Kolbeson "Minimum" kydex IWB coming for my 640 Pro J-Frame, should be here in a week or two.

any opinions on the Comp-Tac 2-o-clock holster for j-frame appendix carry?

I had one for a Kahr 9mm. Horrible AIWB design. I can't imagine it'd be any better for a J-frame.

I don't AIWB a snub very often, but I have a High Noon Hideaway and a Kolbeson Minimal IWB, both of which work quite well.

Wow this looks great! Thanks for the pics! I just sent a PM to orionz.

I'm currently using this:

http://www.sideguardholsters.com/holsters/QuickClip.htm

The problems are:
1. the clip is really close to the center of the cylinder, which makes it thicker than need be.
2. the clip sucks. its sharp as hell so its not all that pleasant to draw from. also, its a one size fits all clip, which means it doesn't fit anything well. it moves around ALOT on my 1.5" frequent flyer belt. so much so that i can't get a consistent grip on the gun. the gun generally rides too low to get a full purchase on the grip.

other than that its a nice holster with a good fit, looking back i would probably go with the snap version. i emailed the maker with the issues and he offered to switch it out for no charge but seeing as i dont carry a j frame all that much i didn't do it.

When you build Tam's can you make another for me based on our earlier phonecons? (Black, right hand, 1 1/2" belt loop)

Shoot me an e-mail or phone call at and I'll settle up with you.

Thanks,

Jack

PS: The 19/23 OWB rig you ran up for me is perfect!

How are you guys that have the dark star holster liking it? Does it conceal well? I just ordered a 642 on GB and am looking for good holster options that can be had within a couple of weeks.

DSG is my go-to for small autos and j frames. I need to try his AIWBs for larger pistols. Tom makes good shit.

Now that I have a 442 of my own on its way, this thread interest me. Intended use is as a summer time carry around the property while doing yard work. Mostly worried more about the smaller 4-legged critters (fox, wild turkey, a groundhog with a really mean disposition, etc.) than the 2-legged variety, but I want to at least be able to convey my disapproval of whatever activities are going on if needed. Clothing is usually pretty light... t-shirt, shorts w/o belt loops. I could probably either locate some jean shorts or sacrifice some of the more ventilated ones to become shorts, if wearing a belt is pretty much a requirement.

Man, I heard the turkeys were bad over in New Jersey, but geez, four-legged turkeys? What hath you east-coasters' created over there? :)

On a serious note,, j-frames do lend themselves well for pocket carry, and uncle mike's no.2 and the tuff products holsters are really cheap options for just throwing in your pocket while around the house.

Also, Bob-macs makes some really nice j-frame holsters. Not cheap, but ...

Dude... i've seen some shit... :D
Pocket carry of the 442 was definitely high(er) on the list of ideas. I was just worried about it maybe bouncing out of my pocket. I kind of want a pocket holster with a clip that grabs the outside of my pocket, sort of how you carry a knife.

Oops, just looked, my uncle mikes is a size 3, not a 2. That one's good for smaller pockets, like suit pants, while the tuff products (I have a size 10) is good for bigger pockets, and is pretty tacky. I haven't really had an issue with them moving around in the front pocket to the point of concern. I have a bigger Galco holster, with a chunk of thick cardboard adhered, for cargo pockets. I don't really like to carry in cargo pockets, partially because those pockets are bigger, and partially because it bangs my thigh/knee.

I almost think the cylinder bulge on a revolver lends itself to staying put in a pocket.
That sort of thing definitely just depends on the pocket opening and depth and how the pants fit, though. Very personal depending on the use.

when I carry my J frame AIWB (which is not often) I use a garrett industries silent thunder II. Couldn't be happier.
