SGAmmo has 1000 rounds of Aguila for $184.95

The brief Googling I did turned up very positive reviews (quite similar to what you'd read on Sellier & Bellot).

Aguila is my primary practice ammo... Out of 3000 9mm rounds I have not experienced a single dud yet! And it doesn't seem to be too dirty either. I highly recommend it for practice.

I've shot several thousand rounds of the Aguila.
I've only had one out of spec round that wouldn't chamber, the casing was slightly out of round.
It's one of my favorite practice rounds.

Just ordered a case. I recently shot a match with TulAmmo and had to clear at least 4 rounds that were clearly out of spec and caused FTFs in my Glock 17. Not shooting IDPA with anything that isn't semi-decent from now on, if only to save myself the headache. Also probably makes decent SHTF ammo as it is 124gr instead of the more anemic 115gr. Nice spot.

I'll be at the range tonight running about 100 rounds through my M&P 9c.

Just ordered ammo -- great prices. For those attending Rogers, they now require TMJ or frangible ammo. I just ordered the Speer 124 grain TMJ from the same site to try as well.

they now require TMJ or frangible ammo.

Their web site says copper PLATED or frangible, they're excluding jacketed.

http://www.rogersshootingschool.com/faq.php

Is there a specific type of ammunition that I must use at the school? Yes. As of January, 2012, all students other than Military Units must use a copper plated bullet or a frangible bullet.

I spoke to Kyle Armstrong on the phone today (one of Bill's instructors) and exchanged email with Bill subsequently. TMJ is the preferred ammo, and Bill has something like 150,000 rounds of Blazer 147 TMJ on hand.

Put 100 rounds of the Aguila through my M&P 9c at the range last night. No stoppages to report.

POI is higher than with the Federal Champion I had been using. Wonder if this is a result of the "hotter" load in the Aguila?

The Aguila is also 124 grain, while the Federal Champion I had been shooting is 115 grain. I know nothing of ballistics, just throwing this out there.

As far as I could tell, the Aguila shoots cleaner than the Federal Champion. The casings are also crimped, which was a nice touch.

All things being equal, hotter ammo prints lower - it gets out of the barrel sooner.

Weird. POI was definitely higher than with the 115g Federal Champion. It could have been human error but I'm relatively confident it wasn't, as the POI/POA deviation was consistent across my entire range session.

At any rate, it wasn't bad enough to mess me up and I adjusted rather quickly. My overall assessment of the cartridge is positive. I'll definitely buy more.

FYI. The Speer TMJ bullets are actually plated.

This is a little misleading to some because TMJ = total metal jacket and most don't think of a plating as a jacket.

I shot some Federal Champion 9mm 115 yesterday, and it found like it was loaded to equal the power factor of a pellet gun. It was lousy on my small 50 yard steel, where WWB banged away on it.

Glad I'm not alone. I think once I finish this case of Champion, I'll switch exclusively to Aguila or Sellier Bellot.

Don't know what to call it though.

Thanks for the Aguila ammo tip!

I received a case, and got to shoot it today. This is typical of how it shoots in my FS M&P 9 with RMR at 25 yards:

I ran a case of it through my P30. I had 1 FTEject within the first few hundred rounds but I'm 99% sure it was due to the new P30 and stiff springs. The rest of the case has ran fine. In fact, my local shop has it by the case for $199 so I will be picking up some more of it soon.

Out of several thousand rounds I had one out of spec round that would not chamber.
I've had a far worse track record with FUBAR rounds in Winchester Value Packs.
I also shoot a lot of RWS and recently had a FTE from a oversized round.
Stuff happens.
5 or 6 malfunctions from 150 rounds would make me look at the gun, primarily the extractor hook.

I've had a far worse track record with FUBAR rounds in Winchester Value Packs.FWIW: I've used cases of 124g Federal AE that had a defective round rate of 1:250. Normally, it was a folded over case mouth.

FWIW: I've used cases of 124g Federal AE that had a defective round rate of 1:250. Normally, it was a folded over case mouth.

I've bought about 8 or so WWB 100-round value packs for 9mm, and another few hundred rounds of WWB .380.

Never once have I gotten less than 1/100 rounds with a rolled case neck with WWB, in both 9mm and .380.

At the same time, I've had about 5000 rounds of AE spread between 115gr, 124gr and 147gr over several batches (granted, 1200 is still sitting upstairs waiting to be shot) and I've never had a rolled case neck. I have a love affection with AE 147gr, actually.

My g19 was kinda dirty at the time. I shoot a lot of matches and dont necessarily clean it that often. I dont think it was an extractor problem.

Seemed like they were hitting feed ramp and hanging up. I cleaned it and switched back to s&b ball and handloads and didnt have a problem on my next 3,000 rounds. I will be running this stuff again next week in a high round count range session and will report back any issues. Its also not a mag issues since I rotate between 30 different mags. I normally shoot 147's in matches so shouldnt be a length issue either. Maybe she was just too dirty?

On a different note has anyone tried reloading this brass? Does the cannalure affect the sizing die?

Thanks

I broke into my Aguila boxes today.

I had my very first dead primer on a centerfire cartridge in my entire life today with the Aguila ammo. I guess it was bound to happen someday!

I did, however, turn in my best group ever shooting SHO in DA at 5 yards. In addition, I got 100% of hits both SHO and WHO, DA and SA, for the first time ever at 5 yards on 2" circles. Granted, it's probably more a function of me than the ammo, but I was still quite happy! (note: I wasn't shooting DT, just using the target for 2" circles. The bottom circles you see were sighting in a red dot sight, not my P2000):

If you've ever shot Sellier & Bellot 115 grain and compared it to a American Eagle 115, I find the S&B runs hotter and I would say the Aguila runs similar to S&B, but I've only run about 500 rounds of Aguila so far. That and I'm going by feel and not by the technicals-TGS will be able to give you a better technical overview, b/c he and I bought a few cases each recently. I'm sure he'll chime back in on this thread by the end of the day.

It seems to be moving pretty fast. I got the email it was back in stock this morning, ordered 3 cases, and the number in stock had dropped 25 cases within a half an hour. I got my tracking number maybe 10 minutes after that. Seems like a good deal and good service, but I won't know until the UPS truck gets here next week!

Look at it this way, if you can shoot it and tame the trigger jerking with it then it makes everything else a piece of pie. I went thru two cases of that stuff. Todd even wondered what the heck I was shooting at the last couple of KSTG's.
