I am about to pickup this rifle and was having a hard time finding magazines for it. Anybody have one of these or have a good place to find the magazines?

From what I understand you can only use the Savage magazines (or whoever makes them) in them and you cannot use Magpuls/ AICS Etc in them, but I could be wrong.

Thanks in advance!

Here is a link to the rifle

As far as I know, with the factory bottom metal, you can only use Savage mags, which are about $60 each. If you replace the bottom metal and have it inletted, you can use AICS mags. The bottom metal runs $100-$200 plus cost of inletting.

The magazine shown in your pic is exactly the same as the one I use in my Savage Hog Hunter mutt rifle. IIRC, you can also use the standard 4rnd mag, which should be more available.

As far as where to get them, they're available from a variety of places, but finding them for less than $60ish is tough.

ETA:
A quick google for "10rnd Savage 308 magazine" gave me these hits among others:

After posting I was able to find a couple links that had magazines for sale, but it seemed liked i was having trouble telling the difference in how Savage was labeling them between the model 11 magazines (that run about $60) and a magazine I think for their model 10 which appeared to run about $100.

I wish there was an easy way to run Magpul or AICS Mags. mtnbkr can you tell me more about the way to replace the bottom metal and possibly run AICS mags?

Thanks

Model 10 and Model 11 should interchange unless one is a centerfeed and the other offset (or whatever Savage calls the other). Both are short action.

As for replacement, it requires the stock to be inletted. I know the plastic stocks can, but it's not commonly done.

CDI will do inletting for you if you buy their bottom metal.

They do Mausers. I have a sporterized Mauser with a LER scope. Having detachable mags and irons put on it would be pretty sick.

Just FYI, I had CDI install their bottom metal in my Remington Micro 7 300 BLK and it works great. No feeding issues whatsoever and the magazine is very solid.
