I was thinking about getting one for some polymer 80 work, and there a ton of options and packages. Any recs on which one is best? Just the standard kit for like 30 on Amazon?

Do yourself a favor and forget the cordless. Batteries have a habit of running down right in the middle of a project.

I'd grab an extra battery.

I've been pretty underwhelmed with battery powered dremels.

This looks promising.

I highly recommend getting one of these with your dremel.

Personally, I wouldn't own a rotary tool without a shaft extension if you plan on doing anything resembling precise work. Trying to control the weight of the tool is difficult and I'm convinced it contributes to botched work.

Foredom = Professional
Dremel = Hobbyist

You'll have to decide which is relevant to your needs.

I don't do a lot of heavy duty work with a rotary tool so a corded Dremel has worked well for me. The first one lasted about twenty years. Definitely get a flex shaft for it.

I have one of those. Works great for trimming my GSD's nails.

That's the only thing it gets used for.

Buy the corded version.

I say this as someone who bought the exact model you listed 3 years ago. I’ve always been underwhelmed with its power. In addition the battery life means you can’t use it for very long. I could handle the power if it was corded. 3 years later the battery only lasts a few minutes on high.

I actually bought a cordless version, recently. But I bought the real one - https://www.dremel.com/en_US/products/-/show-product/tools/8220-12vmax-high-performance-cordless - Not the dinky one.

Battery life is very good - for what I use it for. To be clear, I usually only need 5-20k rpms, so I don't ramp it up to 35k very often. At 10k rpms, I got a running battery life of about 60-minutes, which given the way I use a Dremel was more than sufficient for my needs.

A spare battery would solve any other issues.
