The new X55 leverages the concept of the popular X400 light and laser combo but moves the laser from a housing below the light to just above the light.

The X55 offers 1000 lumens in the Maxvision beam pattern as well as a strobe setting.

Here, you can see it upside down, as it might be mounted to a top rail of a carbine. The X55 can be programmed via switches for which light and laser combo you wish to engage.

Available with Green laser, the X55 is MasterFire Holster compatible.
Coming late 1st QTR, 18 from www.surefire.com.

Figures, just a couple of months I replace my X400Us with X400UHs. C'est la vie.

This was what I mentioned. It's a baller ass light.

MSRP of 799, street will be ~$699. I'll confirm tomorrow.
Looks like a nice light, is it just me or does the head look bigger then x300u?

Now that would be badass on my pig gun with nv, I wonder if there will be a IR version.

Saw one of these a couple months ago in a class. I'm VERY impressed! I'm also VERY scared to see what they sell for when they hit the street. Lol!

Is this a thing yet?
If it is, does it require a whole new holster?

Not yet and currently my Rigel is the only holster I know of to fit the current prototypes that have been out. There have been some proposed changes that were discussed in January that would still fit. I've not had hands on with anything else made after SHOT though and haven't heard if those changes have ever been implemented.

For me personally it'd likely only go on my nightstand and other home guns. But I'm sure various LE would love it if it fit in the old holsters. What would be *really* awesome is if it fit in the non-lasered X300/400 holsters but I'm sure that's too much to ask with current tech.

It'll take up basically the same footprint.

I'm thinking 1200 rail on a short barrel AR-15. That's a lot of capability.

The "masterfire" switches on bottom are likely going to be the issue. If you have a holster that fits an X400 I'd bet the XH55G will fit as the 400's laser hangs lower than the 55G switches. I have an XH35 at home with those same switches on it, but it's on a rifle. I'll try to test fit it in a Safariland ALS this week and see if they clear it or not.

I'm sort of cautiously thinking the same thing.
People have largely gotten so confident in their RDS that many aren't using BUIS at all. I wonder if we'll get to a point where there's no BUIS *or* RDS given a light/laser combo like this.

The red dot/green dot contrast is also nice.

I was gonna use an XH55G at 12:00 on an 8.5" 300 side folder with irons and no optic. The offset of the laser is about an inch so basically POA/POI for the full usable range.

I've been experimenting for a few years with a Steiner CQB-L at 12 o'clock as a backup. It's definitely lacking once you get outside and the distance increases. Now, it's red which is harder to see than green, but with BUIS I can make solid hits for hundreds of yards. On a static, flat target the red laser is extremely difficult to see beyond 25 yards. On 3 dimensional clothing and a moving bad guy... I'm not sure how useful it would be. For a HD rifle inside the dwelling, especially during darkness I think a shooter would be fine with a laser in place of irons. But I've made the decision to keep BUIS on serious use rifles.
I will say the green laser XH55G I saw in person was very visible from 25 yards and beyond, but it was dusk/night when it was brought out. As you know Rob, the sun in places like Florida can crush even the brightest dot in an optic.

Yeah, the positioning of the laser emitter is really nice for the carbine application.

Good info.
So maybe it's BUIS and laser, no RDS?
Either way, someone's sure to throw a tantrum and tell us we clearly don't care out the safety of our families and what are we going to do when our laser dies and our BUIS are folded down and the mongol hordes are at our gates.

lol! Exactly. Luckily we at PF know most people with that mentality are posting from their mom's basement in between video games where they gain all their "operational" knowledge. I was thinking a helmet mounted laser might be the ticket. Then all I have to do is make eye contact with the bad guy and he'll be blinded. That will give me time to flip up my irons and change the battery in my rifle mounted laser.
Back to the topic at hand - I am thrilled to see lights/lasers making gains in terms of size and power. The TLR-7 has been good to go for several months and it's almost as bright as the X300U I was running for years before. Now the X300U is at 1k lumens! The manufacturers are moving the lasers up close to the bore, and the package overall is getting smaller. DB posted about the golden age of handguns... I think we are also in the golden age of weapon lights/lasers. I saw Midway USA has the XH55G listed, but out of stock. I'll most likely snag one after they hit the streets. Whether it ends up on a rifle or pistol remains to be seen.

Just remember that the light is a MaxVision beam, so a lot of flood, but throw will be weak. I know there are folks that preferred the old 600 lumen X300Us to the XH35s due to the lack of throw on the XH35s, despite having a 1000 lumen output. Hopefully an XH50 comes out with a TIR beam.

They clear my XH35 which I think is the same height. I did have to install the DD spacer to raise the optic because the switches occluded everything below the red dot.

Damn. Forgot about that. I may wait and see if they come out with an XH50.

Honestly I consider this as something for my inside long gun so I’m actually totally cool with that.

See if you can borrow an XH35 first. Mine is usable indoors, but the flood is so wide it bounces back at me on the sides where I didn't expect. I'm planning to replace it with the new 1,000 lumen X300U at some point.

Any word on a release date? I checked a couple of websites, and they say things like "soon" and December 2018.
This would be pretty sweet on a carbine, as previously mentioned. Just trying to plan my Christmas toy budget.

A recent podcast leads me to believe "soon" is maybe this year. I'm REALLY hoping that's the case, it's an amazing light and will serve a few unique roles for me and my wife for HD.

Not that I know of. If 1K lumens with some throw, would be an awesome 12o'clock AR light.

Pretty shit throw, though, based off of the candela rating, so that kills it for long gun use most likely.

Depends on what you're gonna do with it. This makes for a perfect optic/light for my wife with an AR/PCC/or something else. I had the XH55G prototype a few years ago and the output was 100% pistol light output, but using a carbine/pcc in place of a pistol with a pistol light is just fine.

yeah for indoor-ish use I don't know that throw is that big a deal to me.
the bigger issue is the near-$900 price...

That hurts for sure, but the role and the performance in that role is what I feel super strong about. We also don't know what the street price looks like.
I do know that I am a Surefire dealer and can sell these as a package, and the Rigel was designed from the get go to fit, so order out.

I'd rather deal with the offset and have the throw than vice versa. I'm hoping they'll make a higher throw model more in line with their pistol TIR heads, but for now, I'll pass on it. With such little throw, it's just too niche for my liking.

Don't forget that the laser module of an X400 blocks most of the view through an optic when mounted on the top rail of a rifle. I've got one rifle set up with an X400V on top, but I use and EXPS on a FAST riser, so it's not that much of an issue. This new chassis might make it disappear with a lower 1/3, or 1.93" optic height
