Wondered if you guys had any suggestions for a good winter watch cap? Being follicle deficient leaves me cold this time of year with most outdoor activities, but before I picked up another cheap, ill-fitting, and itchy cap for this winter I thought I'd see if there wasn't a better alternative? Something insulated may be nice... Thanks!

I've been wearing LL Bean or North Face for years without complaint. I'm getting a bit thin on top myself.

A friend just bought me this and it is pretty nice. USA made all the way.

I once had (and may still have, somewhere) a watch cap that was a knit wool like you'd see in "ragg wool" socks, with thinsulate and gore-tex. It was awesome. I'm not sure who made it, Outdoor Research maybe, but I probably got it at REI, about 30 years ago...

The silk watch cap I had disappeared during my last tour in Korea, I hope whoever got it needed it.

Frankly, for those few days in Western Washington that I need warm headware nowadays I go with Stormy KromerŪ. (https://www.stormykromer.com/) Who knows cold weather better than Yoopers?

I've been trying to crack this one for a while, without much success (complicated by small hat size). Of the two I have that actually work for me, one is a more conventional watch cap: it's an older Wigwam acrylic version. Newer versions I have pawed at REI are different, and a pass for me.

The other is not a fashion statement (or is an anti-fashion statement?), but it is my go-to when it is nasty out:

https://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Research-Wind-Pro-Black/dp/B000AY72OI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513123651&sr=8-1&keywords=outdoor+research+wind+pro+hat

Mine is an older version without a logo, so the current models may be a bit different. Looks like there are free returns at A-zon, though, so easy way to check it out.

Edited to add: Mine was a military model:

SmartWool "The Lid" (https://www.smartwool.com/shop/men-accessories-shop-all-accessories/mens-the-lid-sw0sc143?variationId=892), great lightweight beanie.
or
Duluth Trading "Wooly Mammoth" (https://www.duluthtrading.com/store/mens/mens-accessories/headwear-mn/11083.aspx?processor=content), heavier weight but can get itchy after a few hours until it's well worn in and has been washed a few times.

Condor Tactical Fleece Watch Cap, Black - New, One Size https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F9IGIKO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9vimAb1D78GM7

These work very well. My caps get pretty jacked up in the winter. So I have bought a few now.

I've had good luck with Under Armour as my go-to, especially for running in the cold.

I'm wearing a carhart childs size. I don't have a small head but I like that it's less bulky.

As another follically challenged individual, I have found the Arcteryx RHO lightweight beanie to be a very good cool weather/short exposure cap. The heavier Arcteryx caps usually feel too snug for me. For colder times or high wind I prefer OR or Mountain Hardwear caps.

I also really enjoy my Carhartt brimmed cap. Cheap and really practical for sunny days.

I have a big head. I have tried The North Face fleece cap and they are too tight and do not cover my ears. Some of the others mentioned look about the same. The OriginUSA caps look like they may work for my big head. Any other recommendations for us big heads?

My favorite beanie hat, ever. I don't bother with any others. The holes for eye glasses are awesome, instead of making little wind tunnels that freeze your ears. And the cut is awesome, no interference with peripheral vision too, which I like a lot. It's a very well thought out design, better than most I've seen or used.

I bought the Tactical Distributors Polar Fleece Beanie and it fits my big melon and covers my ears (just barely). Its thin but seems warm. Gonna try it out for a while and see how it works.

I have one of these Varma wool hats (http://varmaclothing.com/product/rib-beanie/) and it's awesome; very warm, soft and comfortable plus somewhat water resistant. I bought mine at a truck stop while I was in Iceland but it looks like they will ship.

I have several of the Icebreaker Pocket Beanie's and really like them. I'm also a huge fan of wool.

My hat size is 7 3/4 (XL/XXL) and after all these years I still prefer the adjustability of a cuffed beanie. The no-itch Smartwool variety is my favorite as it readily stretches without being constrictive.

Along these same lines, I quite often prefer the versatility of a scarf (Smartwool or Fleece) to a neck gaiter when conditions require such protection.

I use a Carhartt one like this: https://www.amazon.com/Carhartt-Mens-Workcamo-Fleece-Hat/dp/B00A51XGXW

But I have one of those USGI ones in ACU green too. I usually only use that as something to pull over my eyes if I need to sleep during the day for some reason. If I can't find my Carhartt it works, just makes me look like a tool.

I'm not sure how it does on a hair-deficient head, but my current favorite is a Columbia omni-heat. Very thin and very warm. Worth a look, IMO.

I wear a size 8 fitted cap. They all take a while to stretch out, but the Duluth one mentioned above is ok as far as fit goes. Excellent for warmth. I very recently bought a PDW AG watch cap and am in the process of stretching it out  Too soon to give it a full thumbs up but seems promising so far.

As a side note, Scally caps at bostonscally.com come in big enough sizes to fit me well.

Wool buff made into an anti-wind balaclava/mask + baseball cap.

I'm not bald, but that's my go-to winter headwear. Plus you get to say "balaclava" #operate (https://pistol-forum.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=operate)
