There's a lot of info in the Hurricane bug-out/in lessons (https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?27565-Hurricane-bug-out-in-lessons) thread.

But not everyone has to be concerned with hurricanes; while a lot of the in formation is universal, some is specific.

So I thought I would start a thread to discuss emergency preparedness.
Gear ideas and reviews, as well as "software", AARs, training, sources of info, etc.

I don't expect this thread to be all-inclusive; for example, The PF generator thread (https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?28087-The-PF-generator-thread) and LittleLebowski's big gay inspirational chainsaw thread (https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?19411-LittleLebowski-s-big-gay-inspirational-chainsaw-thread) would still be the main places to discuss generators and chain saws. But a discussion about, say, amateur radio might start here, and if it developed into a big enough topic might be spun off into a separate thread.

Here's a few links to get the ball rolling:
I think someone posted this in the Hurricane thread: Disaster Apps for Your Digital Go Bag (https://sis.nlm.nih.gov/dimrc/disasterapps.html)
Pacific Disaster Center (http://www.pdc.org/). Good info.

Lots of good info on
Www.survivalmonkey.com

But some of the best advice, I can give to any new prepper is-
Take care of yourself mentally and physically. Go on a diet, get in shape, get to the dentist, get a physical. Then get your mind right and prepared. Mental toughness is just as important.

Learn basic skills for your life and emergencies. Emergencies get a lot smaller when you are prepared for them.
Changing a flat tire.
Cutting down a tree.
Building a fire.
Building a shelter.
Carry spare clothes in your vehicle.
Know how to navigate without a GPS.
Have a burner phone.
Have a way to recharge your normal phone.
Know how to walk long distances.
Keep some emergency food and water on hand.
Know how to survive in your specific environment.
Know how to adapt your normal routine to contend with power and water outages.

Mind map software is great for organizing preparedness thoughts and plans. Exported electronic or hard copies (PDF, Word outline or Excel spreadsheet) are great references if the family's preparedness brain trust is temporarily or permanently not present.

Why a burner phone?

In case your primary phone dies.

Why a burner phone?

What nalesq said. Additionally, you can pick up a relatively cheap phone that isn't as sensitive to damage as most smart phones are, many have double or more the battery life as well.
