S&W 625 PC with Rimz moon clips. I had some failures to fire due to light primer strikes that I need to diagnose. The gun is completely reliable with standard steel moons. From the Big Empty, ELN.

I only have this neck knife which I bought many moons ago. Forgive the poor quality of the image from back then.

Daughter came over to help with yard work yesterday. She gave me this custom Buck 503 a couple years back for Father’s Day. S30v steel and micarta scales, I only carry it when she’s around, would break my heart if I lost it. So its become my yard work with kiddo knife.

That knife looks just like the Buck Esquire that I had back in the late 70s. The steel in the blade was harder than woodpecker lips.

They haven’t changed much over the years. This is the model 1 size smaller then your Esquire which is now the 501. This is the 503 which was the Prince when I had one in the 70’s. Great little knife.

Those are Peak Eigers. The worlds toughest and finest AAA pocket light. I am never without one in my pocket and there is one in every bag and car myself, my wife or my daughter own. The pictured ones are a couple of custom runs Robyn at Peak LED Solutions did for me in 5700k and 5000k. They are a twisty light with a momentary switch installed. The clip is the Eiger Ti clip from Jason at Dark Sucks. I am not sure about the policy here about posting links so if you want them pm me and Ill get you the info.

I’ve been loving my Microtech lately, but in the past few days I’ve started carrying my Mnandi again (it’s been neglected since Covid/suits got pushed to the back of the closet). I really love this knife.

New blade because, well, I’m not sure why. I went to a friend’s house for a NYE party a couple years ago and woke up with a bent blade. What happened in the middle is a total mystery.

I ran across this in the garage. It was my second pocketknife and my first good one. Date code shows 1976 so I got it at the age of 11 or 12. I carried it constantly until I bought my first Victorinox when I was in college. One of these days I’ll try to clean up the blades.

Not really a fixed blade knife guy, but I ran across this leather sheath on Amazon and had to check it out.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08WLT842H?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

For $14, and being LEFT HANDED, I went ahead and ordered it, not expecting much.

It arrived today:

82620

Gotta say, so far I like it. I have been wanting something other than the dorky plastic sheath that came with my Mora, and this looks pretty nice. The stitching is even, and there are two rivets reinforcing the sides. Fit is snug, I used some Mitch Rosen "Leather Lightning" product on the rough side of the leather and stuffed it in to "set." We'll see how it works out camping and what not, but I thought since so many here probably use Moras, it might be of interest.

I've been on again off again eyeing up the Protech Malibu for a while now because reasons. I haven't seen them in stock at any retailer and the ones I was seeing on ebay seemed to be out of line, price-wise. The other night I came across the one I want (new in box, black DLC coated, wharncliffe blade) at as good a price as I've seen and I pulled the trigger. Alcohol may have been involved. I have to say, I really like this knife a lot. It's well-made, feels good in the hand and carries nicely. Mine looks just like this one:

I have always stayed in what i call the "quality production user" category of knives. Typically spyderco, benchmade, zt etc... Yesterday i fell into my first Mid Tech. Also my first integral. Our local knife shop (Blademan's Knife Shop in Fort Wayne - if it's within a reasonable drive for you then make the trip, you likely won't be disappointed) is an ADV dealer and gets decent examples from time to time.

My fiance gifted this to my after my swooning.

Overbuilt folders are just fun!

Nice, that's great to hear about the M4 steel. Definitely assuages any concerns about it...be sure to post a "then and now" in a year or so.

I'll send you a PM in a second about the other topic.
I guess I owe you an update. Still love this knife. This is my EDC 75-80% of the year with a Benchmade Bugout filling in the remainder. Honestly, you could build a 2-knife collection with those two and not have a use case go unfilled. It’s surprisingly lightweight for its size and with the deep carry clip, goes unnoticed. I wear it with just about everything except suit/dress pants which the Bugout is perfect for. BMs coatings are on point and it’s only showing the faintest wear at the tip where I’ve chipped it off. Cardboard and light batoning to start fires for s’mores only leaves faint scuff marks. I’m absolutely loving the M4 steel as I virtually never sharpen it anymore. Surprisingly, I also never clean or oil it and have had no issues with corrosion. I probably applied Eezox or clp twice since I have owned it. I’m happy!

I have to agree. It's been my EDC since I got it nearly 3 weeks ago. I got the two-tone blade with the black FRN. The FRN they use feels better than other FRN scales I've had. Speaking of Emerson, I am completely smitten by the “Super Elvia.” Essentially just a slightly larger version of the Emerson/Calderon “Elvia” (named after Ed’s mom), the larger version is the perfect pocket pikal. Love it. 😍

There is something brutally utilitarian about Emersons. Here’s the Mini Roadhouse I gave Girl #2 for graduation. The other side is etched with her name. She carries it a lot.

I got rid of all my Emersons. I didn’t love the chisel grind but absolutely couldn’t stand the grind being on the wrong side of the blade for a Right Hand use. As a defensive weapon it may not have mattered, but for any outdoor use…I just couldn’t stand it. And I use my knives. But man, I vibe with some of his designs like the Roadhouse above!

I have one Emerson, and at the time was the most expensive folder I owned. It lost its edge in no time. Sample of one, for sure, but fool me once and all. I have probably a dozen or so Benchmades, and have been happy with each. YMMV.

They do lose an edge quickly. The flip side is being able to touch it back up using a coffee mug.

My CQC-7F has S35V, and holds an edge very nicely. I do agree that the chisel grind making slicing apples a challenge…

There is something brutally utilitarian about Emersons. Here’s the Mini Roadhouse I gave Girl #2 for graduation. The other side is etched with her name. She carries it a lot

My one daughter carries a La Griffe. I tell her, “Without it, you’re a 120lb weakling. With it, you’re a velociraptor.”

I once asked my (then) self-defense teacher for instruction in knife fighting. He said, "It's just like what your are learning presently, but with a knife." I knew, even as he spoke, that he was telling me what he was told when he was younger and asked his teacher, but what he was told was wrong. Knife fighting, in any of it's varieties, is unique.

Please, if it is possible your daughters might elect to use a knife defensively, make sure they receive the best available instruction before the fight. It will make a difference.

Suggestion: Father/daughter EWO class with SouthNarc

Would be money & time well spent.

Had two of those burgeoning 100lb velociraptors in our class in NH. I gifted a Fred Perrin Chestnut to one of them.

We all learned a lot & left better armed.

Such an excellent course.

I took EWO at age 62 a few years back. Craig told me I was the third oldest person to complete the course at that time.

The oldest person to complete it was a 70-year-old man in the same class. He whipped my ass.

There was a retired action dude in his 60s in EWO class here a couple of months back. He gave me some trouble in the jab sparring. Also, a krav maga lady from the east coast who was way tougher than anyone I work with. :D

Best way to touch up an unusaully curved, chisel grind that I’ve found. I have an old Porsche logo mug that fits the knife well.

Kunwu Padre, reverse tux ti/dlc. It's super slicy! Action is on par with Reate etc..while out of my wheelhouse, they get talked about for actually hitting the hrc potential for the steels used. Fun blade!
