Which Scope Cabelas Sale Poll

I am thinking about putting one of these on a 300 WM and the sale caught my eye.

Burris MTAC 30 4.5x14.42 $250
Vortex Viper HS LR 4x16x44 $350

Primary use would be hunting and some range plinking. I don't shoot it much but for the price of the scope I don't think it would be a bad idea.

Any experience with similar Burris or Vortex is welcome.

I don’t have experience with either, but I recently listened to a podcast in which the hosts interviewed an employee of Vortex. What I heard left a favorable impression in my mind. Sounds like they have a fantastic warranty.

I don't have that particular Vortex glass, but I would choose Vortex over Burris every time.

I have used the Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x50 FFP with great results - but the one on sale for Cabelas is the SFP I believe.

I'm not familiar with either of these scopes, but from what I read of the specs I would choose the Burris because it is mil reticle / mil turrets.

My experience with Vortex and Burris have been good, but mixed. Both have excellent warranties, and both make products that often need warranty service. I would not choose Vortex over Burris--or vice versa. Check each offering and compare.

Never used Burris.

Probably because the Vortex optics I've used have been good and their support so excellent, I see little need to use anything else.
