My new sgian-dubh from Ken Brock.
He had a release of these, but I hemmed and hawed over it and missed getting one before they were discontinued.
An associate on another forum suggested that I email Ken to be put on a list for the next run.
I did so and Ken emailed me back that he had a blank for me if I wanted it.

I wasn't going to miss my opportunity again and told him I'd take it.
It took him only about a week to finish and ship the knife.
I'm really happy with it!

I'm still waiting for an opportunity to wear it with kilt and hose, but I wanted something more than just the typical ceremonial drone.
The sheath retention is a little tighter than than I'd prefer, so I need to spend some time with it and a hairdryer.

I too would feel bad about possibly damaging a knife like that or losing it to evidence. A China Pick can stab things just fine and I wouldn’t feel that badly about losing or damaging it.

I can attest to an out of body sharpness to a Ban Tang due to PF generosity. This from a man who has an 8000 grit stone for his kitchen knives.

This is a piece I've been holding back on for a bit, because it takes a while to describe.
This was made by Jason Fry in 2020. It is James Black-inspired, 1836-layer damascus, Oak handle, and brass pins.
The damascus includes iron nails recovered from a farmhouse that stood at the edge of the San Jacinto battlefield. The oak comes from the 'Houston Oak', the tree under which, legend has it, Santa Anna surrendered to Sam Houston after the Battle of San Jacinto. And the pins in the handles are made from brass pins from saddle tack decorations recovered from the Sea of Mud Archeological excavations.
James Black, for those who don't know, is generally believed to have been the maker of Bowie's original knives. A knife attributed to Black was recovered from the Sea of Mud excavations and serves as the inspiration for this blade.
Better pictures forthcoming. I had a set and they appear to be lost in translation. So, suck it up buttercups.

Is it an elf or a dwarf tanto?
At 10-3/8" AOL including sheath, it's a perfect fit in the right-front zippered pocket of Duluth Foreman's Pants. :-)
Blade measures 5.5 inches in length, 1.375 inches in width at the rear and is made of 5 mm thick San Mai III steel. The blade features a hollow grind on the main edge and a straight grind on the forward edge. As is typically the case with the upper end Cold Steel knives, it came out of the box razor sharp. I found a great Cyber Monday deal on the knife that I couldn't pass up!

How are you liking that blade?
I need another mid-sized fixed blade like another hole in the head, but I like it. Although I am put off by the blade thickness. IMO, you sacrifice cutting ability at 3/16" for no good reason, and make it heavier.
And how does the edge hold up? My experience is that 1095 is such a simple steel that it can do great, but a lot of people leave it soft (looking at you, ESEE), and doesn't have the edge retention that I like.

I have not put it through any hard use, so I cannot say how the edge holds up. I did a little re-profiling on a Work Sharp Precision sharpener, it came ground pretty "toothy" at 25 degrees. I reduced it to about 22 degrees and put a finer edge on it and it's now sharp as f**k. :-)

Thanks dude! I really appreciate it.
The results are excellent, and he even saved the head on the Shivworks snake. Now I have 3 Clinch Picks. Because you can never have too many knives.
