I’m testing the water to see if there would be any interest in doing a 2 day Ken Hackathorn-Larry Vickers Advanced Handgun class at Anthill near Southport, NC in late winter or early spring 2018. Will also include a low light portion Saturday night. Cost would be $550.

Please let me know if you have any interest.

Amp,

I could, with no considerable effort, convince myself that such a course is necessary.

We'll see you there Buzz!

Unfortunately, I'm in Seattle so I'm out, but I have trained with both of these guys.

The low-light portion alone is easily worth $550.

I would be all over this but I haven't taken a class with LAV yet and it looks like his Pistol I and II classes are prerequisites for this course. Enjoy guys, I need to take his other classes before I can participate.

Lunchtime talks with Mr. Hackathorn are worth $550.

They won’t be making more like this, folks.

Agreed JAD, had a meal w/ Ken 2008ish when Wayne hosted him in Greenville Tx & another opportunity up @ Bill Wilson’s ranch in 2016.

Ken has allowed other schools/classes/experience to fulfill his prerequisites for this course in the past. Might be worth a call. It's not one to be missed.

I didn’t make the LAV/Hack class a few weeks back @ Bill’s ranch but know for a fact some/many of the attendees did not have previous classes w/ either of those men. This was also the case for my training partner in a 2015 class near Waxahachie. He had zero time w/ Ken but joined me for an advanced class that had a night iteration & daytime work using hot guns in near proximity of other shooters > snake drill etc.

I’d be very surprised if any of the poster’s in this thread got turned down for the 2018 class, no doubt I’d be all over it if they came back to my AO.

Where are you seeing these prerequisites?

Checked out his course descriptions page, http://www.vickerstactical.com/class-specific-info.html. Hadn't checked out Ken's website until now but don't see prerequisites there. Just checked on LAVs as he's closer to my neck of the woods.

Will drop Mr. Hackathorn a line per taadski's above.

If I'm honest with myself, I don't deserve to pick up brass for either of these guys but what an opportunity to learn from two paragons of tactical and defensive shooting.

This was the case for me too (https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?17946-AAR-Ken-Hackathorn-Advanced-Pistol-7-8-November-2015-Waxahachie-Texas). A potential caveat, however: Ken was with Alias at the time, and I didn't get the impression Alias was doing any sort of background on the students. At any rate, Ken knew students weren't being vetted, and he didn't seem to have an issue with it.

Wrong.

These two guys live to teach a new way to think about shooting. They both know that there are more profitable ways to go about it, but they prefer to spread the word in person, one shooter at a time. Go and sit at the feet of the masters. You'll leave with a set of skills that will help you improve for the rest of your life.

If you have safe competent gun handling skills and a firm grasp of the basics of marksmanship you are good to go.

If you have any desire to receive instruction from or just rub shoulders with a legend, Ken Hackathorn go! Ken is winding down his time as a trainer. In 2016 Ken told me he was cutting in half the number of classes he does each year going forward until he is down to zero and done.

So Amp, I'm presuming that you won't charge me extra for the convenience of having moved the course to within 20 minutes or so of the house.

I've traveled pretty far in the past to train with these two guys (and well worth the trip). Having them practically in the back yard - - - well, you can't beat that!

DAMN. IT. I just saw this, and now it is too late. I've attended two LAV classes and Hack has been on my list for a LONG time. To add insult to injury, this one is just over an hour's drive from me. Any chance of a stand by list? Again, DAMN. IT.

There were some retired military along with active and retired law enforcement officers. A retired Secret Service agent in the class said it was the best training he had ever received.

Larry ran the class on Saturday with Ken acting as the AI and on Sunday Ken was primary with Larry acting as the AI.23973

This class, definitely showed me my weak areas. The way info was put out allowed you to retain and more important imparted you with drills to take home and practice. This is probaly one of the best classes that I have taken. I definitely need a practice plan every time I go to the range so as Larry says. "you just don't blow thru 200 rds and get nothing out of it".
