I am not familiar with either of those safes but I’ve been really happy with this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00A1X5PD8/ref=pd_aw_sim_200_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=1EP4FY0BV9HEPY880KYV&dpPl=1&dpID=81r6SvNyMpL

I like that it doesn’t require any batteries. It’s as fast to get into as I expect modern technology to allow.

When I was researching, granted 3 or so years ago, I found a lot of the electronic locks were lacking. I ended up with the fort knox pistol box
https://www.ftknox.com/shop/original-pistol-box-wfront-sight-training-certificate-included/

I know the simplex lock is defeated by the brute force method and won't keep out a determined individual. But I think it's enough to deter an overly inquisitive kid.

I have the SV500. It is used to store my holstered J-frame. My carry USP9c is either on me or in my Safariland ALS while I sleep. The SV500 will lock you out if you fat finger a button several times, which is not acceptable. The J comes out and the 9c goes in if need be, but I do not rely on it to hold the house gun.

I've got its bigger brother, the "BRUTE" (https://www.amazon.com/V-Line-Brute-Heavy-Quick-Access/dp/B00K20E8S8) in my bedroom and it's a great little safe.

Quick, easy and I can put three guns in it when I run out to the store for errands. (I can get a G17, G19 and a S&W 642 in it, each holstered or with triggers covered for safety.)

Have you already picked out where the safe will be located? How do the differing ergonomics of accessing the data pads on these safes impact your decision? Is this safe to deter thieves or to deter children? I ask the last question as that is how I'm determining what I'm going to use for my bedroom. I'm relying on the real safe to protect from thieves. My sidearm becomes my nightstand sidearm. But I do want a long gun in the bedroom. I'm mainly concerned with that firearm being protected from inquisitive kids than realistically stopping a bad guy from stealing it. He'll have to get through the mal and pittie first, anyhow. To that end I've been looking at items like those linked below for a long gun. The easiest/cheapest solution is to install a simple rack and then bring a firearm from the safe every day and lock it back up when I'm out rather than buying yet another thing that is a compromise solution. (Thus the indecision).

Personally I like the look of the Gun Vault product. I'm curious in how you plan on attaching this thing permanently/semipermanently to your bedroom. I was looking at an automobile gun safe with a cable to thread through the bed frame but that's a meh solution, as well.

I have used several of the Ft Knox safes daily for years and love them.

I had a budget electronic safe and found it lacking at times and dealing with batteries was a pain. Eventually it died and I tossed it in favor of the second Ft Knox.

This one easily holds two full sized pistols and mags.

This one is smaller but the door opening may be better for you. I like it but prefer the first.

Most of the handgun “safes” on Amazon are but minor deterrents to kids wanting to play with your gun and mere afterthoughts for a burglar. Take a look at this article and video of 3-year olds defeating various handgun safes.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/marcwebertobias/2012/07/27/unsafe-gun-safes-can-be-opened-by-a-three-year-old/amp/

There are similar videos on the internet depicting kids defeating the various “Vault” series of handgun safes, so parent beware.

IMHO, the best value bedroom firearm security device is the AMSEC Defense Vault DV652. It’s not a safe, nor does it offer any protection against fire or moisture. It is designed for those who have studied the trade offs between rapid access vs. security, and mainly want to protect against “friendly intruders” such as your kids gaining access to your primary weapon system.

21030
It weights about 100lbs and can be bolted to the floor which keeps kids from flipping it around and deters burglars from carrying it off. It fits under most beds and many other types of bedroom furniture. It also has superior construction to most handgun “Vault” type devices against hammer and crow bar attacks - meaning it will take 2-5 min instead of 30 seconds for a determined burglar to open it. Most importantly, it stores long guns and night vision under the bed which are the 2 things I want when hunting in my home.

Cost is about $400 delivered.

For long gun quick access I like the V-Line in wall vault.

I’ve been happy with this Sentry Safe model. I like the silent lock and the key. The override key prevents a dead battery from locking up your safe and it’s a fast option to use.

Not on your short list but a manual substitute for the GunVault, I'm very satisfied with my FAS1. I can store a G19, G26 and several mags. I especially like the option to disable the simplex with the key.

Looks like they have a promotion going on today.

I second this. I have one and it's been great! The company owner is a member here too I believe.

I've sworn off electronics and batteries for quick access to life support equipment. I previously used the original Gunvault design until one just died and the other had the cable break.

For pistols, I want the safe on the wall in between my nightstand and the wall, or bolted to the wooden bottom shelf of the nightstand and the wall. If the GunVault, I’d wall mount it on a stud in between the nightstand and wall. My nightstand is real wood and pretty heavy.

For long guns, I like the way you are thinking as I was considering a cheap, very slim, Stackon-type long gun safe for th closet. I think the minimalist idea has merit if you keep it out of sight, still. Ultimately, I’d love a long wide drawer under the bed with 120v and battery backup to pop that drawer out fast after I used fingerprint to open.

Good question. Our problem was failing to lock properly. Not sure what you would do if it locked and failed to open. We were a bit surprised experiencing the issue since so many online praised the simplex lock design. But I guess all mechanical things fail and we got lucky :)

I have a SV500 that I bought from Costco. I haven’t mounted it because the interior foam requires modification if you have a WML attached to the pistol. Just something to consider. I’ve since attached my only WML to my shotgun so I should probably just use it.

I’ve read over and over that the simplex locks are preferable on these cheap, little safes.

FPS ...How do you get it open if / when the Simplex lock fails? (Especially in bolted down state.)

You would have to drill the lock's face plate in the right spots to be able to remove the Simplex lock to gain access. The manufacturer can provide that info to the customer if needed. Then you would just replace the lock, not the whole safe. These locks very seldom have a problem and in my 8.5 years working with them I haven't had any lock failures. Biggest issue is people not setting the code correctly when changing it and then they close the door before verifying that it is working correctly. I have seen that a few times, along with people just forgetting their combination.

The one exception is the FAS1 with the In&Out Keyed lock. It is designed to deadbolt the "Simplex" lock, but a side benefit is having a backup keyed entry. The backup entry can easily be disable by the user if they were concerned about having a key available.

Here is my take on a hand gun safe for the bedroom.... It should have a lock that will withstand the attempts of a curious child to open it. That is all. If you are expecting your handgun safe to provide other benefits, I think you will be disappointed. They are not going to protct against fire, theft, or a determined individual trying to open it.

As far as what type of lock (electronic, key, thumb reader, etc), I'd say it is personal preference. To be honest, I would recommend leaving the safe unlocked at night anyway, which is about the only time the gun would be in the safe anyway. Then it really doesn't matter what the locking mechanism is because you should never be opening it in a pressure situation. About the only time I have my gun locked in my hand gun safe is when our children have friends over and I'm not carrying the gun on my body for some reason (taking a shower or something like that). Otherwise, the gun is either on me, or it's at night when I leave the safe open anyway.

Edit - I should note that my children are all over the age of 10, so I'm not worried about a toddler in my room. That would obviously change my habits slightly.

I don't carry at home, but it got me to thinking about having more safes around the house. Like one downstairs in addition to the nightstand.

That is an individual thing, based on factors such as house layout, your average movement in the house, kids, etc. What may be right for someone else, may be the worst thing for you.

Stipulating that this is an unusual situation, I know a guy who got a dog from some woman who later changed her mind and tried to steal "her" dog back. At least that is what his best guess is as when he went to see why the dog was carrying on at the patio door, wearing nothing but an M1 Carbine, she did not want to hang out and talk. The other part of the story was that he had picked up a number of said M1 Carbines back when they were cheap and kept them around the house. Different strokes.

I’m in the market for a safe about this size (around 1 cu ft) for a compact pistol and some ammo.

I like the ergonomics of this one but want a Simplex or mechanical key lock. No batteries or biometrics.

I’ve spent some time searching but after reviewing this thread and Googling can’t come up with a solution on these lines.

Any thoughts as to where I can find a 1 cut ft Simples front swing gun safe?

Yeah, that size you're looking at the smallest of the residential safes, say the smallest Amsec bf or csc models. Which then means a combo lock, or electronic keypad for quick access.

Well I kinda decided that in light of the fact I’m not really going to expand my gun collection anytime soon, and I don’t necessarily need to have the same security on ammo, to go ahead and order a V-Line Brute:

I own the Brute. It's been an excellent addition. You have the option to bolt it down should you choose to do so. Purchased mine via walmart.com which had the best price I could find at the time.

I can fit a G17, G26 and a 642 in mine all secured within minimalist holsters to keep the trigger guards covered. I removed one layer of the foam, (and set it aside for another day), to enhance lid closure when packed with multiple firearms.

It should come with a little packet of Cortec corrosion inhibitor to affix on the interior side wall of the box.

I think you'll like it, Rich.

Not quite, "all over the house," but I do have a downstairs Glock 19 secured in a pistol safe, with the remainder of the firearms secured in my office upstairs, where I spend the bulk of the day. If we are able, my office is also where we would establish ourselves during an extended emergency, as it might take a considerable amount of time for a sufficient number of deputies to arrive and attempt the tactical nightmare that is the approach to our property. Two loaded pistols are in an electronic pistol safe, while the long guns are in a sheet metal cabinet. Everything is bolted to the wall.

ETA: The two German Shepherd Dogs roam the house freely.

People make great sport of defeating safes and posting the videos on YouTube, but for what it's worth, during my LE years, I never saw, or heard of any locked container being breached to steal a firearm.

No kids in the picture for me yet but my idea is similar except I don't want to interrupt a burglary in progress in my home and get shot by my own gun.

Way out of my lane, but I purchased on of these Residential Storage Containers last year.

Hayman DV-3019.

https://www.haymansafe.com/Dynavault.html

Features include:

Residential Security Container (RSC) Burglar Rating.
Heavy 11 Gauge Body
Solid 1/4" Steel Door w/Drill Resistant Hard Plate
Tri-Spoke handle.
(2) Adjustable Shelves.
2 pre-drilled mount holes.
3 way boltwork extends bolts on three sides of the door to give full protection with dead-bolts on the fouth side.
Off white powder coated finish.
Triple layered hard plate with spring loaded re-lockers.
75 minute fire rating at 1200 degrees F.
Auto Bolt Detent.
1-1/4" Chrome Plated boltwork locking mechanism

I’m no expert for sure but this was quite a bit more than I originally envisaged paying. (About $1,400).

It is fairly heavy, but we were able to arrange a move recently. I’m glad we got the biggest model as it seems to have filled up quickly. I don’t store long guns so did not need a tall cabinet. I’m happier with this vs. say the ‘safes’ I saw at Costco.

Back on November 30, 2018, I posted on this thread seeking any feedback from someone who may have experience with this safe:

https://verifisafe.com/products/biometric-safes/s-series/verifi-smart-safe-s6000/

Nobody had any experience with that safe, but I moved forward and purchased one.

I have experience with a couple of "bedroom" pistol safes prior to this purchase, but this one is by far the best, most convenient to use small safe I have used. Very pleased with it. Have had it for 14 months and use it every single day. Batteries are still at 83% of full power. Recommended for those who might be interested.

Interesting. I've convinced myself that I don't like biometrics, but I might have a use for one.

Has it ever misfired on a scan, causing you to have to rescan? If so, how long does it take to reset for the second scan?

From the user manual D/L, it looks like it can take up to four prints per user, and is capped at a maximum of 40 stored prints. No reason you couldn't make your left hand one user and your right hand a second user. (If you're really paranoid, and have lots of time on your hands, I suppose you could make each finger a user - LI, LM,LR, etc.)

I too am concerned about the reliability of biometric locks for something like a nightstand security container, but the technology seems to be improving. For example, my old iPhone’s thumbprint scanner was practically useless if my thumb was even a little bit wet. On the other hand, the newer iPhone’s face scanner seems to be almost magically reliable.

I bought Verifi smart safe https://wisepick.org/best-home-safe/#product3 (Biometric Gun Safe) about half a year ago. During this time, I have never had a scan failure of biometric lock. We scanned the fingerprints of my hand and the hands of my wife. It always works (from) the first time. It seems reliable. I am delighted with this safe. Its size is enough to store small weapons and some important documents.

Too small? I have no trouble getting a G19 in there.

They have other size options here.

https://www.deansafe.com/fort-knox-handgun-safes.html

Somewhere along the line on this forum there was a thread like this, and I think it was. Ayre DocGKR or someone else that mentioned having one of these style safes stolen from their office with meds in it and recovered with the meds still in it. I bought two of the larger size ones in the last link and I’ve been happy with them. One each is “stashed” around the house, one of them built in to a piece of furniture.

I figure someone may make off with the safe, and I’d be unhappy about that, but the idea that they are as unlikely as possible to access the gun and use it against my family or someone’s else’s makes me feel better about the whole thing. I once had a shotgun stolen and the idea that the shitheads might use it against some other innocent still bothers me (although, my coo friend that investigated the VP crime told me it was far more likely they would use it to shoot another shithead).

We have the Fort Knox pistol box. It's built like a tank! We bought it from a place that sells nothing but safes. Every Christmas, the owner places $500 inside one and tells his family they can have the money if they can get the box open. He said no one has yet to open it.

Fort Knox has a good warranty. For example, if you have a Fort Knox gun safe and it's in a fire, they'll replace the safe.

Of course, otherwise I'd just have said it can fit a G17. You engineering types...;)

I keep the 642 in an Uncle Mike's # whatever, the G17 in the pared down RCS holster I use on the nightstand for the G17 with light affixed, and the G19 in one of those Remora holsters. Protects the guns and still fits with one layer of the pluck foam removed.

I have the V-line Brute as well. I keep a pair of Beretta 92's in it, both with Streamlight TLR-1's. I also removed all the padding and replaced it with a cedar board for the guns to sit on; with the foam installed, I found moisture build-up on the side of the guns facing the foam, even with the dessicant pack attached to the side of the safe.

Nice idea on the cedar board!

Dessicant packs are a gimmick in safes. They're only useful in a sealed environment. Gun safes/lockboxes/RSCs are not airtight, so any moisture that is absorbed by the dessicant pack is replaced by fresh moisturized air as the moisture is absorbed.

Sorry I am so late in replying to the inquiries about my experiences with my verifisafe. My experiences have been identical to those of Gregfosterid. Never had a missed scan, a hangup, or a problem of any kind. I have programmed a finger on each of my hands, and my wife has done a finger on each of her hands. All the programs have worked perfectly the first time, every time.

Fort Knox Personal Pistol Box (https://www.ftknox.com/shop/personal-pistol-box-wfront-sight-training-certificate-included/)

ETA: Wow, these now come with a certificate for a Front Sight 2-Day Defensive Handgun course

I saw that too. I get the steel box that I WANT And a two day class. Oh Boy!

My kid is in Tucson, I could call it a vacation, then sneak away for two days. I then looked at an actual map and Front Sight is over a 7 hour drive away from his house, then the air came out of my ballon and I said that there are other training opportunities in AZ that won't waste that much driving time.

My brain was working quick there for a minute. Damn

Back to subject at hand. I NEED a good quick access box. I get a good deal on Gun Vault, but think that I need a Fort Knox or Amsec box.

I'm not sure as I don't own one - they post the dimensions online however. The Agile 52 is certainly deep enough for an AR with a 20rd mag so if the depth is comparable I would say yes.

Give them a call if you can't find the answer online - I found their customer service to be pretty helpful.

Sooooo...I’m informed we will most likely not be moving this RSC with us when we get out of our Apartment next Spring. I am meant to replace it with two smaller safes/RSCs that will be stacked as his/hers that we can move ourselves. (the DynaVault is great but after having to have it moved each time we want something smaller).

So, specs are:

- Around 0.8 to 1.0 ft cu
- Cost less than $250 ea ($500 total)
- Acceptable security (proof against a sketchy seven year old armed with a popsicle stick, say)
- Fire rated desirable but not required
- Electronic entry is ok since this is not a bedside “I need my gun right now” use case

Anything along these lines spring to mind? I’ve looked at the thread again and those Verifi Safe Biometrics look interesting.

Back then there were two Simplex lock manufacturers, Kaba and Illinois Lock. Today there is only one, DormaKaba. The holes were sized to accommodate the slight differences on the buttons/faceplate from the two manufacturers. There was no mechanical problems due to this, but the buttons on the Kaba version caused some play where they didn't feel solid and if mounted in a vehicle they would rattle a little.

Got my new bedside safe installed inside the nightstand today. What do you think? I mean I put a light and placemat on the nightstand, you can't even see it, it's so disguised. Amirite?

Kididng. We are moving (yes, again) so today I got the DynaVault RSC out of the back of the walk-in closet with a hydraulic jack and a couple HF small dollys. Geez. 330 lbs is not light. Still, at least now I can decide what to do with it. One option is to sell it locally, but I'd need to find someone with a need as well as ability to move this dang thing out of our ground floor apartment.

Sigh. Still on the hunt for a decent safe that can store say 4 or 5 handguns, simplex lock preferred. Everything I'm finding is either only big enough for a couple pistols or is humongous (like what I have) and heavy. They have a crap biometric safe about the right size at Costco but I'm pretty sure I can find a Lockpicking Lawyer video of it being opened by a 4 year old with a Popsicle stick.

Still on the hunt for a decent safe that can store say 4 or 5 handguns, simplex lock preferred.Well my suggestion, and what I do, is get one "quick access" lock box, with a Simplex lock for the "bedroom," and just keep one gun there. The other guns can be stored in separate lockbox or safe, but don't need to be "quick access." If something needs to be dealt with in the middle of the night you won't be taking 4 or 5 guns with you. So why slow yourself down re-locking a box that has more guns in it, when you can grab the one gun you need, and just leave the now empty lockbox open.

My V-line top draw has one pistol, a spare mag, and a spare flashlight. All the other guns get locked up separately.

Thanks and yes I agree. I actually do already have a small lockbox, Bulldog brand I think, as a small 1-gun option. It has a simple cylindrical lock, with a notch for a cable. It can fit a full size gun in holster w a spare mag. It’s nothing fancy but is a step up from a wafer lock gunvault or similar. I mainly got it for travel in the truck+RV if I absolutely needed to leave my gun. I used it inside a suitcase for a flying trip out west to pack my P365XL this summer. We don’t have little ones but I’d prefer not to leave a pistol unlocked, even in the house if it’s not physically on me.

If I could find a straightforward sturdy metal container, with a simplex lock, sized to fit five Glock 19s standing upright, in holster, that’d be great. Unfortunately the market doesn’t seem to have any viable options in this form factor.

Buying multiple Fort Knox boxes is pretty expensive; I’d need two or three.

At this point, we’re going to go look at HD transport dollies at HF and see if I can buy something to move the Dynavault up and down a U Haul truck ramp ourselves. If so I’ll just keep it.

Got my new bedside safe installed inside the nightstand today. What do you think? I mean I put a light and placemat on the nightstand, you can't even see it, it's so disguised. Amirite?

I see nothing wrong with that. :)

Any feedback or opinions on this particular make/model?
https://www.vlineind.com/shop/slide-away-heavy-duty-large-capacity-handgun-safe/

Intended use, if it matters, is under the passenger seat of our campervan, and the drawer aspect is attractive in that application. The location and orientation I have in mind *should* prevent any issues with the drawer getting blocked.

That looks good to go for a Class B.

I briefly mounted my Bulldog (similar drawer-slide, front lock, not Simplex) inside the water pump compartment in the Airstream. For comparison, it looks like below (my model is NLA apparently.)

Yea, unfortunately that's not a real commonly requested item. Quite a few people want to keep two or three handguns in one place. Most commonly they have their primary home defense gun in there and want to put their CCW in there at night. There are quick access handgun safes that will hold several handguns, but they wouldn't be in a standing up position and the holsters would also take up some of the room available.

No worries.

If by chance you happen to have any way of communicating with FAS1, can you pass on a comment? Currently there's no compilation of interior dimensions on the web site. A user (like me) who is evaluating competing products like V-line or Fort Knox, most all of which list inside dimensions. That way, I can compare across options since there's almost no chance I'll ever actually see one of these without buying it online and having it shipped.

Without the inside dimensions, there's really no way I could order a safe, since I don't know how big it is.

On the other hand, if somehow I've missed it on the web site, I'd be glad to know where that information is provided by FAS1.

I have yet to mount it or even take it out of the box because reasons, but I do have one of those. If there's anything specific I can check or measure or whatever that would help you figure out if it'd work for you, let me know.

hey that's great!

from the pictures online it appears that there's a mounting plate separate from the safe, but it's not real clear. The first image below includes a seam and appears to be a mountin gplate, and the second pic doesn't show the seam leading me to believe that the plate isn't include in the photo.

Yep the mounting plate is included. The tray shown in the drawer of your second pic is not...the drawer just comes with a 3/8" sheet of foam for the bottom and a 3/4" layer of "pluckable" foam that could be used to keep things from shifting around. The recessed areas on the mounting plate will fit a 1/4" hex head cap screw. The safe is attached to the plate with four 1/4" thumbscrews from the inside while the drawer is removed.

Ok, so I setup my teeny "collection" (if you can call it that) of guns so I could estimate how big a "box" I need for storage:

63595

A "box" that fits around this envelope would need to be (I measured) 14" wide x 6.9" high x 12.3" deep. I kept looking and looking, and if i can live with a Biometric lock, this unit will work:

https://www.amazon.com/Verifi-Smart-Safe-Biometric-Fingerprint-Self-Diagnostics/dp/B07VPX9DMR/

It's listed as inside dimensions of 17" wide x 7.3" high x 11.8" deep, which if I use all my fingers and toes cypherin', works out to 0.84 ft cu, not far off my desired spec of about 1.0 ft cu. They are available at Costco online for $269.99. I'll try and go get look at one at the store, meanwhile, any intel, or previous experience, with VeriSafe appreciated.

@RJ,

Why not put 4 of your handguns in the small safe you decided to keep and then get a good quality handgun safe for the other one so you have quick access to it if needed?

I still don’t understand why people wouldn’t just have a standard big safe/RSC for all but 2 handguns. One of these 2 handguns is your primary bump in the night gun maybe bigger than CCW and maybe with weapon mounted light. And the second is your actual CCW gun.

The home defense pistol stays in the quick access small safe by itself. The CCW gun lives on your waistband. And when you go to sleep put the CCW gun unlocked in your nightstand next to your keys and wallet and phone. I don’t understand why I’d ever need to put my CCW gun in the quick access pistol bedroom mini safe. It’s either on me or it’s off me temporarily like my keys/wallet because sleeping/showering/making sweet love, but doesn’t need to be locked up.

Safes in this size are actually the most common size made......hotel safes!

I'm not sure where hotels sell their stuff when they go out of business, but with the covid pandemic and various businesses going out of business I would look into this option...you might be able to get one on the cheap.

I have no specific knowledge of Verisafe, but I do have a general aversion to fingerprint readers and would prefer a traditional digital interface to fingerprint reading if a simplex wasn't available.

In the aim of whether a safe is good enough for what you're expecting it to do, you might want to look at the AMSEC EST916, which fits your listed desires and security expectations, and only costs $170. There's also the Sentry Safe X105 at $100. (https://www.amazon.com/SentrySafe-X105-Security-Digital-Keypad/dp/B000Z8P69W/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=Sentry+safe+x105&qid=1610300869&sr=8-4)

Sure, that's an option, but: In order to do this in our new place, we'd need to physically move the DynaVault next year. It weighs over 300 lbs. We're not really willing to fund (it cost $250 to have Wizard Lock and Safe in Clearwater move it from Lutz to Tampa) it if we don't do it, and renting a truck with a lift gate (the only way we'd be able to DIY) to get from Tampa FL to Venice FL (where we are moving to) isn't cheap either. Our new operational environment is also changing, going from an apartment complex into residential gated neighbourhood. The DynaVault just doesn't fit into that equation anymore, as great an RSC as it is. And was mentioned, keeping guns out of grand kids hands is a primary driver for me, so I think a small bolted down or attached "lock box", or multiple similar items, within the house just make more sense for us. I will not rule out a FAS1 or similar "fast access" safe for bedside use, as part of that approach either. It's just the "all in one" safe isn't going to work.

TGS thanks for the references for the other options. I will note I used to work in Orlando for itty bitty machines, where our site developed some pretty advanced finger printing technology, which if I am not mistaken went on to be incorporated into Federal Law Enforcement systems (might have been AFIS? Not sure), the details of which I was never that close to. But it was a big contract.

The VerifiSafe (https://www.amazon.com/Verifi-Smart-Safe-Biometric-Fingerprint-Self-Diagnostics/dp/B07VMTSBVD/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=verifi+safe&qid=1610300730&sr=8-1) I mentioned above has ties to Orlando, so I am wondering if the folks who set up that company are not in fact ex-IBM or at least familiar with that, and thus (hopefully) better informed about how to implement a biometric lock device. I might know some of them heh. I'm definitely in the Luddite catagory at least as far as locking mechanisms go; I've used standard spin combination locks on Government approved safes for years, as I am sure many here have. While I would vastly prefer a mechanical lock like a Simplex, I am willing to give bio a try based on the positive reviews here and elsewhere of the VerifiSafe. I'll look at the others, much obliged.

I saw this article the other day about the history of the "Simplex" lock and thought with the interest in them here some might like to read it.

It might be the most ubiquitous security device on the planet. As the mechanical push-button lock prepares to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its inception in 2021, it remains the most popular lock in the security marketplace and one of the most purchased items.

I would stay away from biometric safes or do not use the biometric option if the safe comes with it. They do not work if you have lube on your hands. A friend told me.

If you need a first-hand account of an electronic safe problem, I had a quick access button-code electronic lock handgun safe. It ran on a wall power supply with a battery backup tray. I thought that would be reliable.

We had a series of brief power brown-outs/black-outs. It wasn’t a clear-cut power outage, more an intermittent glitching. The safe lost the combination I entered. I had to open it with the backup key and reset it.

I replaced it with a Simplex safe (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=simplex+safe&ref=nb_sb_noss_1). I just don’t trust electronics anymore.

I got this mounted up and I’m quite happy with it. It *just* barely fits. Could only get one mounting screw in for a variety of reasons. But given that it’s entirely hidden and the main application is securing things out of the reach of the kids, I’m happy with it.
