I carried a 1911 for years on duty as LEO and concealed. They run great as long as they are built right. I believe the thing that does the most damage to a 1911s reputation is folks modifying/customizing them with dremels and such with absolutely no idea what they are doing. With that said, I run a Glocks and HKs now. Slightly harder to shoot well but less fuss and I like having more than 3 double taps on tap. You'd be surprised how fast 7-8 rounds goes in a fight.

A Porsche 911 GT3 isn't cheap, either, relegating it to the hands of the few. What's your point?

That it took $180k+ to make a crappy design do what a mid-mounted engine car could be doing for much cheaper......

And that it took one of the best gunsmiths in the world a significant amount of time and $3000 to do what a $1000 gun put together on an assembly line can do....

I had to carry my 1911 for a week around the holidays as neither my HK or Glock were available.

I was almost perplexed to realize that if I put 5 following requirements together "shootable, reasonable ergos, positive control over firing mechanism during AIWB reholstering, accepts laser without loss of reasonable ambidexterity", then there was really nothing else that fit. I understand that shootability and ergos are highly subjective, but even without them, if one used just last three requirements, the field becomes very small.

It doesnt take $3k to make a really nice 1911 that runs trouble free. Nor does it take a support crew to maintain them.

A TRP is $1400ish
A TRS is $1700ish
A Valor is $1400ish

I spent $3k because I could and I know, understand, and appreciate craftsmanship enough to appreciate the gun. Of course, that doesnt mean I dont like and appreciate a G17 as much as the most ardent Glock-dude or HK45 to a HK Maniac.

Tactics, training, and a cool head are what wins any contest, not the gun/racquet/club.

I posted this because plastic guns do not make that great of gun-porn, not to convert people.

I've pretty much shelved my 226,glock,and m&p just to shot either my grp or 10-8,which I shoot better and faster then any of them.the only problem I've had with either of them in about 4k rds was a crap bullet stuck in my barrel and I had to beat it out.come to think of it I think i'm going to find some pics. to post up here if blr won't get upset.:)

Anyhow, gotta go clean my Springfield Professional. You know how those finicky match-grade 1911s are...

Don't hate.

I had to do this to a Glock in a class to make it work.

I LOVE my NHCs (see my posts on 1911enthusiast.com, I'm Feral)!!! Put up some pics of the 10-8, those are hard to come by.

Pogo, that's an awesome commander.
Which sucks, right? They're not wonderful to shoot, for me, in that condition. And that thing /hits/, so I want it to be as good as anything else I carry. But I didn't want to jack it up. Terrible situation. So, holding my breath, I have sent it off for lots of frame dehorn, matting, a flat MSH, a hardball rear sight and tritium front sight, and hard chrome. I sincerely hope I did the right thing.

At the same time, there's a 1973 Mark IV Government Model in the safe, pristine, waiting for Griffin to be old enough to decide how he'd like it finished if at all. So there's that, at least.
