View Full Version : Magpul shotgun stock...worth it?

I have an 870P with Ameriglo rifle sights and a Speedfeed youth stock. It's about 1" shorter LOP than the standard Remington stock.

This LOP works well for me, but I've realized that I need a slightly higher comb height to get a truly solid cheek weld. Would the Magpul SGA stock help with this issue? What are your experiences with it?

Yea, I know it is ugly as sin. But if the functionality is that much better, I may suck it up and get it.

The Magpul certainly adds adjustability in LOP and height. The real advantage for me is how much more comfortable it is than a Speedfeed youth in comfort with slugs and heavy loads.

I avoided the Magpul stock for years, and then I tried it.

The LOP is very adjustable, the grip angle works well, and cheek weld is good. I like the ability to have QDs on the butt stock. The pad on the butt stock is a little too sticky IMHO, but that's the only con that I have. ETA: besides how ugly it is.

I recommend.

I recommend. I have them on a pair of 870s with ghost rings. The .5" height cheek riser works perfectly for me. I like everything about the stock. Highly recommend them.

Aray sums up my thoughts as well, might disagree slightly on the *sticky* issue & being a Satan hander I do like the QD’s on both sides as well.

FWIW I’ve had them on 2 VCS 870’s since 2013 & now on my Beretta 1301T as well.

I have an 870P with Ameriglo rifle sights...

I have the same. The sights raise the sight plane to where alignment and cheek weld start to disagree. The Magpul with a low riser fixed it.

I have the Magpul furniture on an 870P with Scattergun Tech sights. I remember when they came out I thought they were the ugliest thing ever. Then I handled a shotgun with them. Wouldn't use anything else now.

I use(d) a T1 on my work shotgun, and the MagPul stock is far and above most everything else I've tried in terms of comfort and practical employment of the gun.

This is spot on. I have one on a 590A1 and agree 100%. The pad is sticky but it's a good pad for slugs and buck like mentioned before. The matching forearm is nice too in that you can put pic rail in 3 places. I shoot right handed and have a TLR4 on the right side that makes it easy to operate with my support hand. Overall it's a great system.

I have six shotguns, four have Magpul stocks.

I vote yes.

The SGA is like a chubby girl. Not all that good looking, but once you mount it you don't really care.

I've got one on my 870 (gray, for some reason it was $20 less than the other colors). I run it at the shortest LOP, and the QD points are a big plus.

The SGA receiver sling attachment works very well but is placed where it'll chew up your knuckles if you practice transitions. If you never plan to, it works very well if you want to attach your sling behind the receiver.

Another vote for it here as well.

I have a couple of members here to thank for convincing me to install one on my 870. Completely changed the LOP, balance and feel for the better.

You really need to try a shotgun with the MagPul stock installed to fully appreciate it. I now have them on all of my 870's.

That's what changed my mind. I shot one of Rob Haught's Wilson 870's and it was like a lightbulb went off.

I'm a big fan of the Magpul stock on both 870's and Mossbergs.

Everyone petty much nailed it. Like others, I put it off for a long time because of how ugly it is. Once I tried one, every shotgun got one. It's easily the best thought out stock for shotguns. Adjustable LOP, adjustable cheek riser height, multiple options for mounting a sling, fantastic hybrid grip angle... the thing is a winner for sure.

My work shotgun is a 14 inch 870 that had the regular LOP stock. After getting permission I exchanged it for the Magpul stock. Best after market stock on the market.

My shotguns do not have Magpul stocks. Now I want one. I hate threads like this.

I didn't believe the hype until I bought one either. 100% changed the way I shoot a pump gun.

I switched the Magpul pad out for a Remington Supercell. Not as sticky and very nice for those long sessions.

Holmes375 Good point! I forgot to add that I used the Magpul adapter plate and use a stock 870 pad on mine to avoid the sticky issue I brought up earlier.

Picked my new scattergun up today. I purchased the SGA and a Limbsaver pad to put on it down the road. So far I like it, but it’s only been dry fire.

I’m ordering some parts for my 590. Does anyone know if I can attach a vertical M-Lok 1” flashlight mount directly to the Magpul forend and not have the flashlight touching the barrel? Below is the type of mount I’m thinking of using.

Given that I just picked up two used wingmasters I probably gotta get at least one Magpul stock.
