Last year to coincide with the season debut of Longmire, I authorized "Longmire Days". Each shift was allowed to wear jeans, cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat with their uniform shirt. It was a big hit with the county and with some of the personnel.

Recently, we sent a bunch of guys to Texas to escort donated supplies, and they stayed out there for a week to help a Sheriff's Office. They all came back with hats.

We'e adopted Fridays as "hat and boots" day, and now we're looking for some brown leather duty gear for those who have brown boots. Right now, its the CID crew, the patrol commander, and me, but I'm not going to leave out the rest of the crew if they want to participate.

Any suggestions for providers would be appreciated.

I know TDCJ inmates used to make leather duty gear for officers. Not sure if they still do but The stuff I saw done by them looked good.

Are the cowboy days optional? I used to have a cowboy hat as part of my uniform, it drove me insane.

For years, we wore cordovan leather. Finding decent designs in this color was a nightmare. The only folks who consistently delivered were A.E. Nelson. They even did custom holsters for my 5" P220, with and without WML.

I think Tex Shoemaker also does the brown duty gear.

I'm not seeing much I like in the way of available holsters. I do have an email into a vendor we ordered from several years ago to see if their design is available.

It may be cheaper for everyone to go out and buy black boots. ;)

That's pretty cool. It's stuff like that that can make the day to day grind more tolerable.

Are Winchester 94s also authorized?

The first policy that I wrote as Chief was to authorize leverguns as patrol rifles.

Try kirkpatrickleather.com

I've used several of their holsters, which are sturdy, good quality equipment. After examining their website, call and talk with them. They are in Laredo, Tx.

Don’t some of the California SOs still use brown duty gear? That might be a lead, see who they authorize.

That was the conclusion we reached. Seriously, we went to black boots and Safariland STX Tactical.

Our normal uniform wear is back boots and black duty gear. Deputies get to choose between basketweave or nylon gear.

Most of the guys that are doing the boots and hats thing have brown cowboy boots.

I won't be posting pictures here, but I'm in the wedding party of a Western themed wedding. I'm not sure how my J.M. Custom Kydex is going to look with the white shirt, jeans, and boots but I'm gauche enough to find out.....

This may be an unforgivable tactical fashion sin.

That's outstanding. If I ever have a second midlife crisis and decide to go back on the job, I'll know where to apply.

I used to live close to Ted Blocker's store. They are good peeps.

Does your local equivalent of The Ferg get to carry a Model 29?

I don't have any stuff from them, but it's always sad to see somebody close up shop. I wish them well.

If he does, he could also keep a Marlin 1894 lever gun in his car, and feed them the same food.

A person could do worse.

They’re taking orders up until Friday...I just placed one. I used their gear 20 plus years ago. Great stuff. Sad to see them go.

Also sad to see them go. Ordered a 245 sap, closest one to a real Gonzalez 245.

Rhode Island State Police has always had brown duty gear. A quick email or call may answer all your needs.

Here's another one you can try. I bought from him several years ago and was very pleased with his work. http://www.c-rusty.com/

I know safariland has made one off colored holsters and mag pouches for some of their sponsored competitive shooters. Not sure if they'd do it for a big order, but it might be worth 5 minutes on the phone to find out.
