I'm thinking about buying another 1911,I have seven already, SA 1911-A1 45 Auto., S&W 1911CT .45 Auto. E Series Crimson Trace., Ruger SR 1911.45 Auto., Colt M1991A1 .45 Auto CGM., Kimber Custom II .45 ACP., Rock Island Armory .45 ACP., American Tactical M1911GI .45ACP.I can't make up my mind which 1911 I want to add to my collection. My budget is $1000.00 going south. As you can see I like different brand name.Any body have any opinion on what I should buy?

Since you're a 1911 collector, with all the bases covered before going semi-custom, I'd suggest something older and more historic.

What StraitR said or a Delta Elite if you have the metric itch.

First, may I ask, what do you know about older 1911's and their associated period specific arsenal/inspector markings?

ETA: To answer your question, indirectly, I'll say nothing in your budget is going to be beautiful and 100% original. That doesn't mean it's not cool to own a piece of that history.

As a recovering 1911-pattern addict, I would suggest looking at the following USED guns to stay within the OP's budget.

1) STI Trojan (either the 5.0 or 6.0)
2) STI Spartan (either 3.0, 4.0, 5.0)
3) Colt Competition
4) Springfield Armory Range Officer
5) Springfield Armory Champion

The STI Trojan is a really nice gun, and gently used samples can be found for less than $1,000.

You may be able to find a Dan Wesson Heritage or Valor for $1k.

Nice guns....stainless, clean (no billboard) series 70 style.

It's almost impossible to wear out a 1911 in 45 and I'm a quality over quantity kinda guy, so I'd free up some cash and get one real well built shooter.

You already have 7 - if I was in your position, I think the question would be "what do I want an 8th do for me that the 7 I have don't already do?" If you can answer that satisfactorily, you'll know which direction to go. A further question might also be (heretical to some, I know) "If I was to sell one or more of these, would my budget increase such that I could get what I really want?"

For a grand?

Colt. Sounds like you need a 9mm 1911. Or a .38 super because sexy. Colt Competition pistol n' chill

On the flip side...ever think about sending that Colt to a gunsmith and spending that 1k on it? That'd be pretty baller.

This section of the forum doesn't often deal with collecting so much as with the technical aspects of pistols and shooting, so you might not get a lot of the type of answers you are looking for.

You have a few nice guns. Getting something special will probably require going up in price. Another you might consider in your price range is the Fusion Firearms Freedom Series.

I would send the Colt off for custom work.

I'd look into a 1911 armorers or build course at Gunsite, with John Jardine, Larry Vickers or Bob Rodgers.

That's kinda what I see.

OP, you have 7 very similar 1911s. Is it just "want" of a new thing? Or is there an itch you need to scratch? I'd say save some money and pick up something different. Personally, at this point if I were to buy a new 1911 I'd get a Colt M45A1 or Springfield Proffessional Light-rail as they are really the only 1911s in major use with MIL or Fed LE. Otherwise, something really different like a 9mm 1911 or an STi 2011 would offer something or than just "new 1911". I'd even sell a couple of the cheap 1911s to get something really nice.

New OEM- Springfield Loaded or with a bit more, MC or Long Beach Operator
Used- A Dan Wesson
Custom- Send in a Colt or SF and have it done up well. My impression is that the Springfield Custom Shop (they work on Colts and other brands, too) does better work, faster than the Colt. I admit that my impression re SF v Colt is almost entirely internet/indirectly based and could be quite flawed etc.

Yeah the Colt Custom Shop just recently started taking work again, with fewer services offered at higher prices. I'm sure the wait time will still be pretty long too.

I'm not sure SACS is still working on non-SA pistols. I could be wrong though.

Sell a couple of the cheaper ones, and throw the $1k and the sale proceeds at something like this:

Agree with this. Learn the pistol inside out and maximize your training.

BIN price is only $85 more than the current bid. It's a solid deal for $1535.

I have been aspiring to “less guns, but better guns” . In other words - trade some in for better 1911s. Trade two or three plus some cash you could get a Wilson or similar. I traded in my kimber 1911s for colt Wiley clapp 1911s.

There are a bunch of good suggestions so far. I'd go with a Colt Wiley Clapp Gov't. They're around $1100 on a few different websites. If I were to send off a basic Colt to the custom shop, it would end up looking a lot like the Wiley Clapp.

I'd sell some of that stuff and get a couple really squared away models. But I'm not a "collector" so...
