"A Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy was killed and two California Highway Patrol officers were injured Wednesday in a shooting near a Sacramento County motel off Capital City Freeway, the sheriff’s department said.

Robert "Bob" French, a 21-year veteran of the department, died on the way to the hospital, Sheriff Scott Jones said. The CHP officers were hospitalized and their conditions have been stabilized.

Bob was a great guy and will be missed! Bob lost his parents in a plane crash 10 years ago on the same day, things happen in a crazy way sometimes and I pray they are together and at peace.

Their depiction of the initial attack on officers and Deputy French's subsequent actions, if accurate, will be worthy of repeating.
