It's official now. I've accepted a federal civil service position as a contract specialist for a DoD agency and will relocating to East Greenwich, RI. Basically doing what I'm doing in my retirement job for Louisiana as a State Contracts and Grants Officer. My fiancee lives there, and works as an intelligence analyst for a federal agency.

I love it when plans come together. I will be putting LA in the rear view mirror in a couple of weeks.

Congratulations! My very best wishes for success in your new careers, and for many years of happiness with your fiancee.

You'll miss the food, though - right?

When things come together as we'd hoped, it's wonderful.

Congratulations!

Even though RI's a little too blue for me, I believe it's my favorite state in the union (at least my favorite on the east coast) and if my uncle's house ever ends up for sale I may end up there as well. Congrats on the move!

Congrats. I lived in RI for a few months, albeit under the care of Marine Corps Drill Instructors for most of that time. It's definitely an interesting and beautiful place.

Sorry to see you leave...

Get ready for the winter. Eat cream of wheat for breakfast if you like it; fleece is your friend.

AWESOME scenery!

My family's beach house (grandfather's old house) is about 30 minutes away from there in Quonochontaug. Perhaps we can meet up next time I'm up there.

Thank you SS.

I know this is going to be hard to believe.......but the seafood is actually better there.

An extended stay at King Hall?

LSP, that should definitely be a change of pace. I hated the winter in Lil Rhodie but man the Newport docks were the place to be in the summer evenings.

For sure winter will be a change, but I'm a saltwater fishing and boating guy. Living 15 minutes from Narragansett Bay will definitely have advantages....once I understand that whole boating season thingy. :D

As someone who grew up in the south, I found it took a little bit to get used to just how early it seemed to get dark up there in the winter.

Yes...and Nimitz. I was with the group that moved up from Pensacola to Newport when OCS relocated in 2008. We were initially in King and then moved to Nimitz after a few weeks.

Enjoy your new location! Be well, and stay in touch.

Rhode Island is an interesting place. Does Louisiana have parishes bigger than Rhode Island? Rhode Island is smaller than Harris County, Texas, where I live, by about 500 square miles, and has one-quarter the population. (Houston is mostly within Harris County.) Yet, RI has two senators in DC. Hmm.

Best of everything in your new life up north!!! Saltwater fishing was the first thing I thought of when I read your post!! We'll want a report!

I'm sure you've checked out the firearms/handgun situation there? How's it look?

TY! They are definitely liberal up there and not near as gun friendly as I wished. At least they don't have a 10 rd mag ban like some of the neighboring states do. RI is a may issue State and I'm thankful for LEOSA.

Just back, alive and kicking from the repressive states...mostly intact even...

Great news, Ken. Congrats. You deserve it and if I can be of help along the way, just gimme a shout anytime.

Very nice! I am from that part of the country (CT). My brother went to college at U. RI and my parents went to RISD. If you want any travel pointers or sites to see just shoot me a PM and I'll ask my folks what they'd recommend.

I can tell you off the bat that you'll want to check out the Mass. shore. Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, etc are all gorgeous - even at high tourist season. I really love the New England coastline and miss it dearly. I am sure you'll love it too.

I have only been to Newport (although we flew in to Providence to get there, so I guess I've "been" to Providence too) and it's one of my favorite towns ever. We go every year.

You gotta check this place out
