That should serve you well, LL. I'm a fan of Sandvik 12C27. It gives good performance, takes a fine edge and is easy to sharpen.

People like to jump on the bandwagon of the latest and greatest steels but this is one that has stood the test of time and when Master Smith P.J. Tomes wasn't forging 52100, the stainless he preferred was 12C27.

"Easy to sharpen" is LL friendly. #Handicapable (https://pistol-forum.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=Handicapable)

Then you'll be pleased. It's a relatively fine grain steel (which is why it was designed for razor blades) and takes a keen edge without much effort.

If you don't like to freehand sharpen, I might recommend the Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker (https://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-Tri-Angle-Sharpmaker/dp/B004HIZKHE) and / or the DMT Magna-Guide Kit (https://www.amazon.com/DMT-MAGKIT-4-Diafold-Magna-Guide-Case/dp/B00HZ3SCEQ/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1500477271&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=DMT+Diafold+kit).

I like to sharpen on diamond hones and finish on ceramic but I enjoy various sharpening tools almost as much as I do the knives they service. I would highly recommend either or both of the above kits.

I've had a hell of a time putting a decent edge on the 12c27 on my China pick. Seems like it gets dull with time. Maybe the sheath is dulling it, idk.

That's pretty much how County Comm works. You follow LL's link for a $35 knife, an hour later you've spent $100 😁

Cool knife, if I had fewer SAKs and more loose cash I'd be all over it.

Thanks man, that's exactly what I've been looking for to compliment my always carried fixed blade. I generally have made due with a smaller Swiss Army knife but it's sometimes as pain to fish out of my pocket. This solves that problem and looks benign enough to not get second looks when I whip it out to trim my nails.

Got it today. I love it. Lightweight, disappears in my pocket without the clip being used and fits just right on the pocket shield when I am at work. The clip is perfect. Snagged #218

Mine came in today as well. It's a tad bigger than I imagined. I've wanted a knife like this for awhile. The g10 looks fantastic. Mine came razor sharp. I do not like the window breaker. Sadly, it doesn't look like I can remove it. Once I flip the pocket clip to tip up carry it's gonna be in a bad spot.

Just curious as I fiddle with this knife. Why would you want to flip the pocket clip to put the window breaker in a bad spot? This is not a one handed opening type of knife. It is a knife which requires two hands to open. That would be the only reason I would make a clip change for one handed opening when I pull it from my pocket.

People who carry knives in the same pocket as their phone tend to carry tip up (glass breaker up) with the blade spine against the rear of the pocket to minimize screen scratches.

So my quick review:

I can say this thing is just what I was looking for. I lightweight knife with the tools I use for day to day. Something that clips to my pocket shield when I am working and something I can throw in my pocket when I am off work and not have to carry the pocket shield.

Tactical knives are great but I use knives as tools and I have been through a few.

Specs are right on.

Weight as advertised. Exactly 3.1oz Lengths also as advertised. Blade just under 3" to work in most jurisdictions.

The tools are what I need. I like the glass breaker. I understand the pocket clip flip as per above but the spine has the phillips and it will scratch anyway.

I really like the lanyard so I can clip it off if I am fishing or out on the lake.

The blade is nice as well. I got #218 of 750. The steel is new to me but I hear good things about it.

Bottle opener/flat head is perfect and has a wire stripper on it. Works well on bottles.

Phillips works and had ability punch style defensive tool for those times when you are in an NPE

The serrated blade comes out at angle but is supposed to be used as saw so I understand angle and I like. Not sure about Flathead on it though can't see it working right under torque. They should have put punch on end imho.

The G10 scales are smooth with a light texture for grip, so I'll see how it works when hands are sweaty. I like the color.

Pocket clip is rounded and close to body so it doesn't cause issue when tossed in pocket but holds on to pocket shield well. That was the selling point for me

Not a quick opener but a tool.

Overall I am very happy with it. Going to use it. Light and has the tools I want for day to day.

Looks like a limited edition run of their tech tool city line with different tools so if you missed the boat and want something close take a look. https://www.bokerusa.com/multitools/?p=2

The Boker tech tool city 3, and 2 all have different tools at close to the same pricepoint on popular websites like amazon. The 4 and 5 have more tools at a slightly higher price point. Looks like the tech tool city 2 is closest with the phillips replacing the corkscrew on the county comm run.

I can see this guy getting use

I carry all my knives tip up so it's mostly for consistency.

This is the only slip joint I own so I am going to experiment with tip down carry for now. It just seems very unnatural even though it requires two hands to open.

I hadn't considered the window breaker scratching my phone. I do carry my phone in the same pocket.

The window breaker seems kind of useless to me. I've never had much luck with a non spring loaded one. I should be able to test it out on a car or two tomorrow during some training so we will find out if it will actually break a window.

I can confirm that the window breaker does work as advertised. I was a little surprised with how well it worked. I was able to test it on two windows and it didn't require much force. Granted the cars were around 20 years old and the windows were not tinted but it worked great. Video link:
https://youtu.be/FZHkaf6f-aE

I was able to do a mini torture test with it to see how well it would cut. The normal blade sliced right through a seatbelt multiple times with ease. The saw type blade did cut through it but did require a sawing motion.

G10 is a little jacked up now but it's a tool! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170726/256aa9d2a468526d10c19aafb1fa9004.jpg

Blade still looks good just a little dirty https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170726/e459762d1bdbff4dcc5e2df536531d56.jpg

Loving this knife a lot more now. Glad I picked it up. One small thing I would change is recessing the screws in the g10. But for $35 I shouldn't be picky. Fantastic value!

I've had mine for a few days now. Perfect for my needs and an upgrade to my SAK. It's very well made and thought out. The main blade is slightly pronouced and easy to get out, the glass breaker is long enough to be useful but not so long it shreds clothes and the other tools are wel designed(pretty much duplicates of the SAK tools). All and all a steal for the $$$.

They are now saying that I would be able to get the Tech Tool City 1 (https://www.bokerusa.com/pocketknives/boker-plus/tech-tools/tech-tool-city-1-01bo801) in orange G10, but that's just a single blade design (but still has the pocket clip and glass breaker). However, at the price and minimum order quantity quoted, I'd have to sell them for $30-$35 (shipping included), get paid pre-orders for at least 100 units, and even with that I'd still have to spend many thousands of dollars out of pocket and it would take years (if ever) to break even.

Feel free to talk me into/out of this. :)

Here's the knife (https://www.bokerusa.com/pocketknives/boker-plus/tech-tools/tech-tool-city-1-01bo801) we are talking about (which Boker lists with a MSRP of $41.95):

1907719078
The scales would be this shade of orange:

19079

It's not nearly as handy as the County Comm knife, but I still like it.

In my opinion, if you are going to do this, you need a much higher number of pre-orders, preferably with cash up front. Trying not to lose money is not an optimal goal. You should only be doing this if you have a reasonably good chance of making a profit, with losing money being a calculated risk rather than the likely outcome.

Not that it matters (since the numbers don't work), but they also told me today that a black G10 scales with orange G10 liners would also be possible at the same quantity and price.

Here is a mockup of that:

Nice!

BladeHQ has a variety of the Tech-Tool knives in black and green G10 and carbon fiber with various tool combos. Corkscrews instead of phillips screwdrivers. All apparently in stock.

There are a couple with phillips, but have pliers as well.

I was able to get in on the Massdrop and then get in on the second round at County Comm. Thought I would share some shitty side by side camera phone shots of the two knives. It looks like I could fairly easily swap the Philips head for the cork screw between the two models. I actually like the Massdrop (which is a Boker Tech Tool 6) for the saw and the awl. Having the Philips head screw driver would seal the deal for me. These knives are very well made and I'm pleased with both of them.

I've got other priorities right now, but I know you folks were wishing...

( I posted a new thread at the top of the Blade forum before I thought to track down this thread... Mods feel free to merge, if deemed necessary, but I figure it might warrant it's own thread)
