Possibly going to a Department that allows 1911s and looking for advice/experience/pictures of your 1911 duty gear setup.

I carry a Springfield TRP Operator in a Safariland ALS low ride holster 6390-560. I use the quick release system so I can switch to a new belt as needed when wearing a heavy vest.

I carry three magazines in a Safariland 77. I also carry two magazines on pouches on my carrier.

Coyotesfan;

I like your setup. Is there a particular reason why you're carrying your radio on your belt, instead of your tac vest? It seems like a net positive to get as much weight off the belt as possible. Also, have you had any issues carrying a level one holster?

I use one of the Safariland triple mag pouches pictured above for the rare occasions I'm in uniform.

EDIT: Apparently photobucket won't let me post pics anymore.

I like the weight of the radio balancing the pistol and I'd have to reconfigure mt vest to put the radio on it. I've had no issues with the holster. I like it a lot better than the SLS where it was easy not to flip the hood up on holstering.

I have a full size Wilson 45acp I'm going to use. Is non rail 1911 an issue?

Been carrying a G22 with a light on it for years.

I like the three mag slime line setup with another two mags in other places.

Yep photobucket will no longer let me post as well, had to find another site.

Safariland ALS is the way to go for uniform. If you have back problems check their contoured belt

Agree, I have an ALS for my G22/w light, works great.

No experience with contoured belt.

What kind of mags do you carry?

Do they make Safariland 7TS models? I'd look into getting one of those for duty, it's lighter and better than the standard 6000-series safariland offers.

When I still carried one (the 20 year run ended in '10), I went through a series of holsters and magazines pouches. In leather, black basket weave, it was a Ted Blocker holster and two open top Bianchi mag pouches, one of either side of the belt buckle. The last set-up I used was a Safariland SLS holster for a 1911 w/frame rail and a SF light; used an Eagle Ind open top, kydex lined three mag pouch.

I carry blued 8 round Wilson Combat ETMs. I had ten rounders in the belt pouch and they felt too long as it felt like my pouches got in the way during reloads. I lost some rounds but they're easier to grab. I went to blued mags so they blended in better.

I tried one for my G17 (no light) and found that the 7TS was a tad shorter than the 6360. It allowed my muzzle to contact various things when sitting. I returned it and went with the 6360. This was a few years ago; safariland may have fixed this issue, or it may not be an issue with another pistol. A 7TS with a light would also negate this.

I have Tripp Cobra Melonite 8rd Mags, never a problem.

Love the "FM 1911" photo too, btw.

My duty holster for the 1911 is a Safariland 6360. It is presently mounted on my older duty belt, with an old-school open-top Tex Shoemaker double mag pouch, which is a technical violation of policy, as it is without cover flaps, but with the number of fatal shootings of LEOs in the USA recently, including many near us in Texas and Louisiana, the command staff has been tolerating open-top ammunition carrying devices.

My newer duty belt is set-up for Glocks, and is the one I usually wear, with a compact G19 in the G34 holster, now that we drive MBUV patrol vehicles. (An MBUV is a Make-Believe Utility Vehicle, the Ford Explorer-based Police Inhibitor, a compact station wagon with less room in the front seat area than a Honda Civic.)

When I ran a 1911 I used both G-code and Blade-Tech WRS holsters. Really liked them, preferring the WRS. Kimber Warrior, CT Laser Grips(more useful for teaching than patrol), X200. I ran Tripp Cobra Mags, 8 rounds, which had the odd habit of disassembling themselves when they hit the deck about 15-25% of the time. No heartburn, because they were empty, and I never lost a component. Now that I have carried an ALS on duty, I would look for one of those if I were going down the 1911 rabbit hole again.

I used to run CMC mags, and I never had trouble with the 8 rounders. But twice while I was shooting feed lip spread caused the 10 rounders to really lock up my gun, where tools were needed to disassemble. The top round was forced through the feed lips far enough that it was wedged in them, not allowing the slide forward, and the feed lips were far enough apart that the mag was stuck in the gun. One time it was pushed far enough forward the nose of the round was in the feed ramp and the case was stuck in the feed lips. Fixing it required a slotted screw driver behind the live round to push it forward until it could be removed or flipped nose up where the feed lips expanded and then the magazine could be removed. I not only stopped carrying 10 rounders then, but everyone on my department with a 1911 has seen the pics, and the malfunctions came on without warning.

Also, please do yourself a favor, and put about 1000 rounds through your 1911 without cleaning it. This is my rule for all new guns, and 1911s are more finicky during break in than most other pistols. The thousand rounds allows you to practice your manipulations and will give you a chance to see how the gun runs. You can also work draws with new holsters, reloads, etc. While I don't have a set number of how many malfunctions are acceptable during this drill, I would not like to see any in the last 500 rounds. One of my officers ignored this advice and showed up to qualify with a pistol (an XD, not a 1911) with less than 100 rounds through it, and 15 rounds into the qual something broke inside, and it had to go back to SA to get repaired.

I also like the quick release that Coyotes fan has on his, getting one for mine next week. I teach with an issue M&P, and am carrying a Glock. I also like that when I go to the jail I can snap off the whole holster to secure my gun. I have a small need to swap holsters and pistols back and forth based on assignments, and duties for the day. I could do three transition classes in a month for the issue M&P, and carry my glock the rest of the days. I can also see running my gear on a vest for callouts, should canine be in my future.

Good advice above on breaking in a pistol. Last qual range we had back up qual as well, guy beside me had a new Glock 43, coming to qual with only two Mags fired, it was ugly, had an issue every 4 rounds fired. We are still making fun of "that guy".
