From CBS News (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/bernie-and-jane-sanders-under-fbi-investigation-for-bank-fraud-hire-lawyers/):

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and his wife, Jane Sanders have hired prominent defense attorneys amid an FBI investigation into a loan Jane Sanders obtained to expand Burlington College while she was its president, CBS News confirms.

Politico Magazine first reported the Sanders had hired lawyers to defend them in the probe. Sanders' top adviser Jeff Weaver told CBS News the couple has sought legal protection over federal agents' allegations from a January 2016 complaint accusing then-President of Burlington College, Ms. Sanders, of distorting donor levels in a 2010 loan application for $10 million from People's United Bank to purchase 33 acres of land for the institution.

According to Politico, prosecutors might also be looking into allegations that Sen. Sanders' office inappropriately urged the bank to approve the loan.

Umm..Communists can't be greedy by definition, though it appears these two "communists" may well be crooks.

The history of every single Communist country ever pretty much disputes that conclusion.

I said "by definition." Greed is the antithesis of communism. So-called communist states are,in practice, simply dictatorships.

Funny that every single Communist state has become a dictatorship in practice- even the efficient and educated Germans couldn't produce a working communist state.
I would call that a "clue"- Communism don't work.

Despite all the high-minded rhetoric about eliminating human nature and producing a "New Soviet Man", you get the same old crap- mass graves, gulags, and the nomenklatura living lives of luxury while the people line up for toilet paper.

Kids today. Don't you know anything?

You see a line, you get in it, whether you need the commodity or not, whether the commodity is in stock, or even whether you know what the line is for.

The Soviet punchline was "No, comrade, this is the line to not get any bread. The line to not get any meat is up the street."

And in case it is shoes or clothing, you know all your family's and neighbors' sizes because you are not going to come away empty handed if they have any of anything left by the time you get to the head of the line.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be incompetence instead of malfeasance. I have a close relative working in donor relations at a university. A lot of the stories are prime facepalm material.

At this point, it doesn't matter if she did or did not. The mere implication is enough to Bern him. Would be even better if the FBI found something, that would be awesome.

As for the lines...

From what I remember you never waited for toilet paper, in fact usually you wouldnt need it as most bathrooms had bidets, especially in the post 70s, buildings.

The lines were for bread, milk, chicken/meat, vodka and sometimes other things.

You could always hit the local not-super market and get yourself something to supplement, but usually at a crazy cost. The black market was way better for these things anyway or else you're paying more than you make for simple items.

Other than the largest cities (like Moscow or Kiev) you'd probably end up taking the bus and or walking a good bit with whatever you got. While that was difficult, not having your local political officer notified about your new, not authorized stuff, was also as difficult. Needing to pay them off was always part of the equation.

Remember everyone had the same, nothing better but many times worse.

One aspect of totalitarian governments that seldom mentioned is the total, utter endemic corruption. Those who think that Marxism is somehow a cure for Social Injustice need to take a serious look at how Marxist states actually work in practice.

When the people are forced to lie, cheat, and steal to live their daily lives, the petty officials are more than happy to take bribes and look the other way for old friends and family members. And all this makes honest, law abiding coherence to the law even more impossible.

Yep, it was rampant, constant and completely acceptable.

Even though there were entire gov agencies designed to fight against these things, they were the equivalent of fighting a herd of lions with a bunch of bees.

Meanwhile, good old Bern is doing what commies always do.

This weekend he apparently was in California urging the state assembly to immediately pass and implement the "single payer" healthcare law they have been considering. It will cost some unbelievable amount of money--$200 billion or $400 billion per year--that the State doesn't have, and it will be at least twice as expensive as the entire (and hugely swollen) California state budget currently.

The bill includes no source of funds, or any plan for moving from the current system to the glories of socialist medicine, which has the assembly speaker, who himself is apparently a fairly crazed leftist, saying "umm, maybe we should figure out how this will work before we pass it."

That caution is obviously subversive to the revolution, so Sanders attacked him and demanded that they pass the bill NOW!

Now, we know who Sanders thinks should pay for it--the rich, obviously, and it would be somewhat amusing to see California confiscate Mark Zuckerberg's and Tom Steyer's mansions and maybe all their stock as it desperately trie to find a way to pay for the first year of glorious socialized healthcare. (The second year--after Silicon Valley has decamped to some less fashionable place that won't insist on taking the techies' stuff--will be a bit more difficult to fund because California will be in a deep depression, and no one except officials of the State socialized healthcare agency will even be buying mansions, but no good lefty will let that stop them.

Bernie will help lead them forward into the glorious future! (And if you visit California, it might be wise to bring a bag full of medicines just in case you get sick).

If the original infraction was related to academia, then incompetence is my guess. Now that I'm employed at a university, I am routinely amazed at how no one, at any level, seems to know what's going on.

A few months ago, the entire faculty of the college of engineering had to go to a presentation from the dean, who was presenting material he had received directly from the president at a meeting earlier in the day. I have never seen a less intuitive presentation of information. Seriously, I would have flunked an undergrad that put on a presentation that bad. He couldn't even explain the metrics they used to measure whatever the fuck it was they were trying to measure.

I can't speak to "intent" in the current matter but I always have a wry laugh when mega multi-millionaire "socialists", (such as the Hollywood crowd), decry the evils of capitalism and our political / economic system yet own villas and summer residences in multiple nations and locales and woe be unto he or she who happens to trespass or intrude upon their property or privacy.

Classic "do as I say, not as I do" Soviet style mindset of those who feel that others must make the sacrifices and carry the weight while they fret over being invited to the next A-list event where they can discuss their high minded principles with others of their ilk.

(They apparently pledge allegiance to the flag of "screw you, I got mine!".)

Don't worry. People like you and majority of those on this board won't have to stand in line for shit. We'll be dead or in jail.

We stood in line for EVERYTHING including toilet paper. Corruption and the black market ruled the day. We had pigs in our cellar so we could eat meat. Butchered 1 or 2 a year and traded for services. Repair cars for getting meat smoked. Fix a TV for some penicillin...

Communists are just as greedy as the rest of humanity. They just have absolutely no controls placed over them.

I hope that lying POS and his wife rot in jail if they did something illegal.

Having been involved in sourcing donations for university events and programs, I enthusiatically concur with peterb. The foundation departments at both Universities I've sourced donations for are seemingly incapable of keeping track of paper, and will make shit up/issue modified paper to try and fix it.

And, Chance, I have said on *multiple* occasions that if one dean of my acquaintance was my student, I would have suggested finding another major for him a long time ago. Simply breathtakingly shit performance, due dilligence, and production. This is what you get when you put people with largely irrelevant doctorates in charge of running businesses. It's endemic. The guy at https://mountainguerrilla.wordpress.com talks about the types of capital: upper admin typically come from outside the area with little inherent social capital, experiential capital that has nothing to do with the new task at hand, questionable intellectual capital (e.g. terminal degrees in art history--for real), and bankrupt spiritual capital, otherwise they'd still be teaching or researching, not ladder climbing beyond their skill sets. The only thing they bring is financial capital, since they move from 6-figure post to 6-figure post as they A) get found out, and B) move on...

At least that's my observation over the last 15+ years looking. Moreover, my dad was a fullbright career prof; he assures me that it's largely same shit, different generation.
