So I sold my Liberty 64 this week, leaving me without the added protective storage for the time being. Man I have a lot of shit.......

Anyway, we have an appointment to tour the house on Saturday, and I'll be taking measurements and notes for the new vault room. A while back you guys piped in about storage, and there was one that caught my eye, and for the life of me I can't find that thread.

Looking for the wall mounted modular system that lets you hang em, or rack em. Time to get this project off the ground.

Ran the preliminary numbers and got the blessing from the boss. For that set up, one could buy a tastefully customized 1911.

But I have plenty of those already and I don't have a Wall O Guns.

I'll post photos when it's done. I'm hoping within the next six to eight weeks.

Just measured the new space. I thought I was going to be hurting for room. 546 square feet.

The entire room is reinforced concrete, including the walls, floor, and ceiling. Anyone have recommendations on how to kill the echo effect? I also have a lot of shit to mount to the walls. Suggestions on how best to do that? I have my ideas, but like most subjects, there are aspects I've never even heard of.

I'm not looking for cheap. I'm looking for best.

Thanks.

If I remember you're doing wall mounted storage, which will do a lot as will anything else you put in there. Carpeting really deadens a lot of sound (found out how much when I removed mine from terrazzo floors) but something like this might http://www.homedepot.com/p/G-Floor-10-ft-x-24-ft-Diamond-Tread-Commercial-Grade-Slate-Grey-Garage-Floor-Cover-and-Protector-GF75DT1024SG/203450745

I'm doing wall mounted storage, but even with all that will be mounted, the room isn't small. I'm going to do a sealant/epoxy floor covering. Trying to attach photo but I suck at this phone/pf.com interface.

Let's try this.

Regular low-pile or medium pile carpet on the floor will go a long way to kill the echo effect.

For the walls, I would first figure out your weapons storage solution and go from there.

For nerd king levels of information on how to change the acoustics of the the room, click here (http://ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html). Keep in mind the link is for people looking to build recording studios... but some of the same principles can apply to your particular problem.

Sean, seems like you need some sort of acoustic tiles, but I know fuck all about that. Alternatively you could buy a shitload more guns for wall storage, or go with some '70's shag rug, fuzzy walls, and a leather couch.

Is that space heated? Is moisture control a concern? (No idea what to do about it if it is an issue).

How finished do you intend to make the space? Office style carpet tiles on the floor will help a lot. Some of the racking systems discussed in your other thread will help. A drop acoustical tile ceiling will help and allow you hide your wiring and position lights for tasks or on items of interest.

Just having stuff in there will cut down on the echo, particularly things like the leather couch.

I'm going with the. Modular wall system noted above. Starting with 4 panels and two "kits", which contain two panels each, for a total of eight panels. And also four rifle racks. I'll likely need more hangers than come with each kit, but that will get me started.

We will be cutting an access for climate control to spin off the heat pump for this portion of the house (we have two for different sections). I'll be reinforcing the garage door access and sealing that up as well for more effective climate control.

The atmosphere of this room will be very much cozy den meets American military history meets noir cyberpunk utopian fuck you bliss.

It will contain the following: plaques and photos of the glory days, shadow box of bullshit medals and decorations, loaded ammo storage, reloading bench, work bench, air compressor, .22 caliber bullet trap/indoor rim fire range, television, Xbox, sound system, small home computer, excess military surplus gear, Red Dawn Boxes, office chair, couch and/or love seat, coffee table, pornography.

I'm leaning toward the rubber matting from Home Depot linked above right now, with an area rug or two in the social section(right in front of the Wall O Gunz. I lean away from carpeting because I don't want to vacuum primers and powder when my clumsy ass spills them. However, I have no issues putting carpet on the ceiling.

Right now, conversation is nearly impossible inside this room.

You and me both. I have some ideas. But I'm not real bright. I'm bringing in experts for a lot of this.

I have the high end modular unit on one wall of a vault room and it is very attractive. However, it doesn't pack the long guns as efficiently as I would like.

By chance, my wife ordered a Winchester brand circular eight and twelve gun holder, and the twelve gun unit came in today. For inside a secured vault, this is a very neat way to store a bunch of long guns. It even spins, to make access or viewing easier.

What about a stripper pole?

They only do topless in VA............I'd rather spend that money on something that won't burn my car, or show up at my place of employment screaming about how she wanted to be the mother of my children.

Had one of those for my 1911s. Cool, but I'm not convinced I'll have a place for something like that when all is said and done. If/When I do, I'll keep that in the back of my mind. Might be a good piece in place of an end table in the lounge section of the room.

Are you stuck with the overhead door? Maybe a reinforced sliding barn door if you don't want to brick the opening up.

Carpet tile on the walls will work a miracle on the sound dampening, as will an acoustic panel drop ceiling.

I wouldn't say I'm stuck with it. I have a few options for reinforcing it, and the general contractor I've discussed this with feels confident he can make it work. I'm trading long range shooting lessons for work, so pretty much anything I want is on the table.

There are steel security shutters that roll up and down, the kind you see in urban areas that cover the whole store front.

.

They aren't much to look at, but stall mats (https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rubber-mat-black-4-ft-x-6-ft?cm_vc=-10005) are among other things noise and vibration absorbent, at least according to Tractor Supply's web site.

VA is topless now ?!?

*old man voice* I remember back in my day you had to drive an hour to Carolina to see yitties.

VA skrippers used to wear bikini tops, or the edgy ones would wear pasties

I used a rubber tile floor when we did our basement some time ago. Very similar to what is used in gyms. Had to be installed, but did a great job on both decreasing noise in the room and was impervious to gun cleaning solvents. Wasn't cold either. Might be worth looking into.

Sadly, we moved. Otherwise I'd give you more details.

Appreciate the input. I've got three contractors coming to look at it and discuss our options for all aspects of the construction, so I'm sure there will be no shortage of ideas that can be put to use.

Instead of a rim fire shooting range you may want to consider installing a well ventilated shuffle board court. It might be less burden on the contractors.

This could be totally useless to you...

Carpeting one wall, or covering it in felt may be a multipurpose thing you could do. It would damped any echo, and some velcro backed dry fire targets could be added. That way you could set up different arrays and work on them. Plus, anyone who has time in the service usually has a crap ton of patches from this and that. You could throw them on the wall to display as well. Just food for thought.

What about an airgun range? Sirt pistol? Indoor live fire ranges are dirty.

I saw that too. First glance and gorilla math has it a bit mkre expensive, but the deal breaker for me is their claim that it's used in military armories all over the world....... tells me it's a shit product and overpriced.

In all seriousness, it's a little too covered and aligned for my tastes......
