I'm hip deep in this one. I grew up in the area where this happened and have been working with the SO there on getting information out. A bunch of children from my county are at camp there; so, I went and patrolled the area around the camp until we confirmed that the escapees were well north of the area. The manhunt is still underway.

Be careful out there, Chief. Our thoughts are with you...only wish I could lend a hand.

We'll be watching for 'em in western NC.

In my professional and personal life I don't hang around a lot of hard cases. You have to really ask yourself, what is, or is not. going through the minds of A couple of dudes willing to hang "shoot me now or else" signs on their backs.

Thank you to those who have made the hard decision to deal with this kind of crap so that I hopefully never have to.

I was working transportation during an attempted escape ... when I was a rookie in the DOC.
That is the most dangerous part of the job .

My heart sank when my Wife told me about this today ...
If anyone knows of a collection for the CO's families please post it or send me a private message.

I'm looking forward to finding out more about the capture.

I think part of the reason why this hits home so much is that several years ago a former colleague was murdered by Brian Nichols (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Nichols) when he escaped from the courthouse in Atlanta.

Just saw a link to this article (http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/06/16/hero-homeowner-holds-escaped-georgia-inmates-at-gunpoint-until-arrests.html) in the "shootings in the news" thread.

Great work by the homeowner and his neighbor and an excellent example of the 2A in action.

I hope they live to regret every single additional second of their miserable lives.

The homeowner has issued a statement. He never held them at gunpoint, and he was trying to escape the scene with his daughter. The escapees surrendered, he believes, because his car looks like a police car.

Weird situation. If I follow the story correctly, the criminals were previously armed with weapons that they took from the guards they killed but lost them in a car wreck? Is this correct?

The guy interviewed mentioned that he had loaded every gun in his house after getting a call that these guys were in the area. Then he saw them climbing over a barbed wire fence a few hundred yards behind his house and had the choice of between getting in his car and leaving or locking himself and his daughter in the panic room in his house. The fact that he had something he referred to as a panic room indicated he had given some forethought having to defend himself in his home.

Also, the guy interviewed mentioned that he had another car--a truck with a loaded shotgun in it and the keys in it in the front of his house that he was hoping that the criminals would not go to. This was separate from the car that he was in that he said resembled a police car.

It sounds like he really lucked out.

I normally would not want to be interviewed or have my face show up in the press or on the news, but I can understand that this guy came forth to set the record straight that he did not hold the guys at gunpoint as the media claimed, and that it bothered him to be hailed as a hero for something didn't do.

I don't know that I'd open my mouth about such careless conduct as leaving loaded weapons lying around unsecured, especially in my vehicles which have the keys in them.

Kudos to him for helping nab these bastards.

I agree. If the criminals came across that truck first they would have hopped in it and gotten away and been armed to boot.

My take was that the guy was very nervous and scared and not thinking well and probably set it up that way so he could jump in either car quickly and run away.

I'd rather keep my car keys and gun on my person in a situation like that. I don't think what he did was well thought out and he happened to luck his way out of the situation.

Maybe I am being an ass for saying so, but the feeling I got from him in the interview is that he wasn't ready to go Doc Holiday if need be.
