would you run out and get the EZ pass transponder for the windshield?

Yes. Makes dealing with tolls much easier.

Especially compared to missing one and having to navigate dated government websites to pay.

Best solution of course is to install border counter tolls like WI is considering to get back at Illinois.

If you plan ahead, you can simply use the licence plate method if the toll roads you will be going on support it.

Done and done. I gather I've saved some money, and a bunch of time by having the transponder. Just returning home from DC on a weekend I drove through multiple parking lots on the highway as people waited to pay. Even my trip to NC earlier this year had significant savings.

Total life saver, don't bother with toll booths, get the ez pass.

EZ Pass is pre-pay, isn't it? Does it cover all toll roads in all states?

As I was simply passing through and not driving toll roads everyday, I simply paid at the gate

Depends on where you're going. I drive to Boston for work on occasion and they just send you a bill in the mail, you pay online. No EZ pass needed but I think it may be slightly cheaper with one.

No...EZ Pass isn't compatible with Florida's SunPass, for example. Some background here:

Will/can you use it after the trip? If so, hell yes. If not, maybe.

The route is basically I-90/94 from the East Coast to North Dakota/Wyoming.

Yep. No other way to travel.

Hm.

I guess if I were transiting an EZ Pass state (VA? KY?), maybe.

Past Kentucky, not sure. I have not encountered any need for something like that West of Louisville, on I80, all the way through through WY, and up to Portland OR. Done that a couple three times in the last three years.

ETA: For $35, plus $0.50 a month, no, I would not, personally. (Meaning, for my situation.)

If your driving trough I-90 in NY. Just drive through the express EZPASS lane and don't pay. Nobody I going to come after you, same with Ohio, I didn't even get a bill. As long as your car isn't registered in NY your fine.

Definitely. It's worth the cost just to avoid stopping, in many cases waiting, and messing with change/coins.

EZ Pass is an east coast / Northeast thing. It is not compatible with TX Tag either.

Agree on above. I moved away from the east coast a couple years ago and forgot to return my ez pass. PM me your address and I'll send it to you. You just have to register it to yourself.

Thank you, but I'm good, grabbed one from the DMV this morning as I'm leaving tonight.

I would recommend a Garmin GPS. I find it really helpful to see how many miles till the
next gas station, or to warn me that I am about to get on the road in the wrong direction.
I have found it especially helpful if a road is closed and I have to take a detour or
if I got off the road to grab a bite and the restaurant was not "easy off / easy on".
I would find the GPS more important than the EZ pass.

Got both.

I set my GPS to avoid toll roads. I don't mind taking occasional backroads, they're slower but at least more interesting to drive on than the interstate.

Backroads can get real interesting. I tend to stick to the interstates outside of my AO. Safe travels LL!
