Spay your pets.

I took my precious girl in for a couple hard lumps on her stomach that were new and the vet confirmed cancer. He said it was estrogen driven from not being spayed. We are going back Tuesday for what amounts to a hysterectomy and mastectomy to try and catch it before it spreads any more.

I had planned on raising a litter of pups that never happened and every time we talked to the vet she was in heat or coming off so they couldn't spay. Long story short it got away and never happened.

Please spay your pet if you are done breeding or not planning on it. You do not want the agony of thinking that something you didn't do may take your pet from you earlier than necessary.

My wife says that I'm neutered.

I volunteer at an animal shelter. People really need to spay and neuter their pets.

My wife says that I'm neutered.

But does she carry them in her purse?

It's not a mistake to think you might want a litter or two with a particular dog, but you do have to be realistic about it.

My current little lady is 12, and we thought we might breed her, but it never happened. After her last heat, at 10, she got an infected uterus and nearly died. Emergency spays under those circumstances are very expensive.

Very. Expensive.

People spend an incredible amount of money taking care of the four legged family members. This is an observation, not a criticism, as I try to avoid hypocrisy (https://thecluemeter.blogspot.com/2013/08/i-haz-sad.html)...

I like my cats more than I like most people. This little guy...

showed up a couple years ago and, after about $6,000 in vet bills to turn him into a girl (feline perineal urethrostomy) he's a happy and loving member of the family.

No... we did NOT name him Caitlyn! (The kid named him Meow-Meow)

Serious subject to be sure, but ... could not help but think of this bit by Burr.

Another win for rescue pups. Already done and have full checkups.

But for sure fix the critters. There are so so so many reasons why. My wife is a vet tech and tells me some crazy sad stories about animals that are not and the bad stuff that happens.

Sorry to hear that, dude. I know that's a big blow; I'm sure the wife is taking it hard too. Hope it all comes out alright, and you guys get lots more park/frisbee/snuggles with your girl.
