Woke up to this being news this morning. I remember being awestruck when Superunknown came out in 1994. Between Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, the change in rock at that time was palpable. Later I was a fan of Audioslave.

RIP.

Wow that sucks. I have always been a big Soundgarden fan. I even liked his collaboration with Rage Against the Machine (Audioslave). His solo stuff was good too. Man that guy could sing! RIP.

So far 2017 is pretty sucky too.

Cornell had some of the best pipes in rock. 52 is way too early. If I was in a famous band, I'd move to Europe. Euro rockers have crazy life spans compared to their American counterparts.

First thing I saw when I woke up as well.... Some of his songs really stick out in my mind when I was having hard times in my teens and twenties.

Terrible. Woke up to the news this AM. One of THE BEST rock voices in the last 25 years or so. Reminded me a lot of Led Zeppelin meets grunge. Remember hearing Soundgarden's Loud Love in the very late 80's and was blown away. He will be missed.

Interesting observation. Count me as a fan, RIP dude.

All of the above! It seems just when I'd forget about Chris Cornell, he'd jump out at us again. Case in point: "Heavy is the Head" with the Zac Brown Band. If you've never heard it, please check it out, it's amazing.

Hope this is ok to share... I tortured myself listening to this song after my last break up.

Sadly, I suspect he is another casualty of America's addiction to opiates and prescription drugs.

I remember first hearing sound garden in the late eighties on a college radio station. I thought they sounded like Led Zeppelin and the doors. I rushed out and bought their music.

I saw Soundgarden twice in high school, once in Seattle, once at the Kitsap County fairgrounds. Seattle's music scene really took a hit today. Very sad. Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley -- I'd hoped Chris Cornell was in better shape than those guys.

Louder than Love -- great album from 1989, it still has some great, raw songs.

Sucks that he left all those concert ticket holders hanging like that.

Having grown up in the Seattle area in the 80's and 90's, Chris Cornell was my hero. Today has sucked. And here's a throwback. Me, in front of my de facto Soundgarden Shrine, circa 1996.

And a great composition he threw together:

Concert ticket holders left hanging... I presume that was humor.

How about leaving his three juvenile children, wife and former spouse ...

I think I might still have some Soundgarden cassette tapes. Figured I'd download some of the albums off I-tunes -- maybe it will support his family.

Here's some good music to shoot (or work out) to:

All of the media commentary on Soundgarden, Nirvana, and the start of grunge keeps making me think of this story, one of the most interesting tangents in the history of those bands. If you ever wondered what Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Green Berets have in common, read on....

NYT: The Rock ’n’ Roll Casualty Who Became a War Hero (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/02/magazine/evermans-war.html)

Jason Everman has the unique distinction of being the guy who was kicked out of Nirvana and Soundgarden, two rock bands that would sell roughly 100 million records combined. At 26, he wasn’t just Pete Best, the guy the Beatles left behind. He was Pete Best twice.

Then again, he wasn’t remotely. What Everman did afterward put him far outside the category of rock’n’roll footnote. He became an elite member of the U.S. Army Special Forces, one of those bearded guys riding around on horseback in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban.

Looking California, feeling Minnesota....rest in peace and thanks for the ride.
I feel like we should put a Secret Service detail on Eddie Vedder at this point. He's about the only OG grunge singer left after we've lost Cobain, Staley, Weiland and now Chris Cornell 😞
ETA: if you have XM radio the Lithium channel (34) is running a bunch of interviews and acoustic stuff with him.

Well crap, whatever it was just ended, so I'm not sure what they're doing the rest of the day.
Chillingly enough it ended with him talking about Prince and then his cover of Nothing Compares 2 U" (interview was taped before Prince's death).

Weiland wasn't grunge. And Vedder was a transplant from Evanston, Illinois, technically. [emoji6]

Agreed. Weiland was a loss. Liked STP, but it was not grunge.
