View Full Version : The normal progression of a PF thread

GJM
05-04-2017, 05:15 PM
Experience tells me that the typical, popular PF handgun thread develops as follows. Five or ten pages about the actual product. Another five pages of butthurt, based on who carries or does not carry the gun, primarily based on the trigger pull weight and length, and how that facilliatates pointing the gun at people without pressing the trigger. Two or three derails onto topics nobody would have anticipated when the thread started. About then, RobS will call for the inevitable comparison of the new product to a Glock 19. Then when by all rights the thread should have been over, it is prolonged by the addition of memes, followed by the mighty haiku.

What has this post got to do with Glock 19s?

Word.

Add to that the cry of despair when - exhausted - one finishes reading 54 pages to realize that in order to make the PX4 a tad slimmer they have agreed to remove the slide lever on the right side thus killing it for left handed.

One of my favorite things about the thread drifts is after that you will actually find a few posts about the original topic intermixed into the current drift. Which ironically makes those posts seem off topic.

I see echoes of pistol-forum.com every time I read it.

For every 6 pages 1 new thread will be started after the original has been derailed as to not derail the original thread. Once the new derailed thread has been started it will conceive new threads as to not derail the original derailment deterrent thread every 9 pages. In the end 3 out of every 13 derailment threads will get locked.

I own two LEMs. Seriously. I didn't like HKs, LEMs, or even really 9mm handguns that weren't single stack made by Germans or Swiss. Before I started hanging out around here.

TWO LEMs. TWO AIWB holsters.

Dozen Magazines.

All other handguns are locked in a safe, in bags to prevent rust. I don't even know, anymore, where all my holsters and accessories for non HK guns are.

I'm completely PFed up.

swung a estwing for years. i hate the "Ping" sound some hammers make. did take the tip of my thumb off with a 28 oz estwing waffle face framing hammer once. it was the first time i dropped the f bomb in front of my father (i was like 14). This is my hammer. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

Without me, my hammer is useless. Without my hammer, I am useless. I must swing my hammer true. I must strike hard and drive nails deep. I must hit nails before they bend. I will.

My hammer and I know that what counts in carpentry is not the boards we cut, the noise of our tools, or the splinters we make. We know that it is the nails that count. We will nail.

My hammer is human, even as I am human, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories, its head and its handle. I will keep my hammer clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other.

Before God I swear this creed. My hammer and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of carpentry. We are the saviors of those living in hovels.
So be it, until victory is America's and there is no house un-built

Yeah. That's the one. It has a proclivity for striking its user in the face without warning. However, after market parts from Craftsman will sometimes fix it, and other times simply piss it off into more obnoxious behavior.

The curved claw models are the XD of hammers, the straight claws are the g19 of hammers.

So, there hasn't been any discussion of food so far, especially bacon or grilling.

I had NY Strip for dinner with red skin mashed potatoes. The only thing missing was the bacon and maybe a portobello mushroom.

Yeah. That's the one. It has a proclivity for striking its user in the face without warning. However, after market parts from Craftsman will sometimes fix it, and other times simply piss it off into more obnoxious behavior.

K.

I (er, my friend :) ) does not actually own a claw hammer. 2 1/2 lb dead blow hammer from Harbor Frieght is the closest thing in the tool box, and that's really only used for whacking in RV wheel chocks.

Will check that out, thanks.

But at least on many of those forums folks are honest with themselves about what they're really doing and why.

Not so sure about that. You have car forums where guys are looking for 10 more HP so they can drive 45 mph back and forth to work. Truck forums where guys want a 4" lift kit to drive the paved roads down to the mudhole and sit around drinking beer. Woodworking forums where guys tell you that you can't do anything without a 3 HP tablesaw. Golfing forums where guys just *need* that new set of Pings and then they'll finally be able to play moar gooder. Guitar forums... fuck anything musician related is a big giant lie.

People are just generally full of shit, and their lies typically start in the mirror.

DUUUUDE!

I can't stand to be inside a brand new Airstream. If I got one, the first thing I'd do would have to be reskin it. They never deburr the edges of the panels, so they're left sharp, and could lacerate the shit out of you if you rubbed against them the wrong way. Then, the last one I was in, the pop rivets holding all the panels on had been set with an anvil that had a too-large hole in it, so the centers of all the heads, around the hole, had a little raised moon or donut around them where the head had been pulled into the anvil hole.

I don't dwell on many of them anymore but most of the time it's been people wanting 10 more HP because it's 10 more HP, nothing else. Not afraid to just want something, not afraid to admit that it won't likely be noticed and won't make a difference picking up the kids from school.

I know on guitar, as I'm in the same spot, there are loads of people being explicitly clear about their reasons for purchasing. Close to the same with camera stuff.

You don't even have to try to work on it yourself. Just the agita of sending it back to the factory or the gunsmith again and again in between trips to the range where it doesn't perform reliably will do your soul in.

I haven't read a single post in this thread past page one but Glocks suck. The 320 sucks more. HK doesn't suck but they haven't built a single pistol that is what people actually want.

Smith and Wesson sucks the most but only if you like Glock and care about a 280 4x and not a 278 3x.

The FBI absolutely knows the best way to evaluate firearms and they say Glocks don't suck but only if they get the Glock they want, which they did, so Glocks don't suck and I'll probably buy one. Except not a Gen 5, Gen 4, or certain Gen 3's. I might buy a Gen 5 I mean damn, no finger grooves. Definitely not a 36 because steaming pile and 45 is for nonshooters and animals.

But I carry appendix and I'm thinking about reproducing so I won't carry a striker with out a Gadget. But it's too easy to actually shoot things you don't want to shoot, and you do want to shoot, but mostly don't want to shoot. So LEM is the only answer.

You know what, HK doesn't completely hate me because they make a P2000 and this think with sk in the name. But holy shit the LEM is really hard to shoot things I want to shoot, not things I don't want to shoot, mostly things I want to shoot fast. So screw HK.

TDA is the secret to shooting bliss. Except that damn decocker and the two different trigger pulls is like quantum physics.

Who's Sammy Hagar?

You're either a self-absorbed millennial or a cranky old guy.

I'm way past millennial age. Cranky old guy? Guilty.

But seriously, eff Sammy Hagar. And Glocks.

That's exactly why I do not have a Glock. Glocks are not fun to shoot. I don't care that the Glock isn't supposed to be fun to shoot, being fun to shoot is important to me because the biggest reason I shoot is to have fun

As a fellow COG you had me at "eff Sammy Hagar" but now you've done crossed the line...we shall have to meet in Coffeyville and settle this like Doolin-Daltons. ;) You bring the red eye whisky.

When the thread mentioned both Glock grip angle and DLR vs. Sammy Hagar, Edster knew he had finally found his internet home.

I'm a big fan of Boston's second album third stage. Even though they only had 2 albums. That and some Joe Bonamassa.

Just to make sure that we are rehashing irrelevant things from earlier that have died off.

I have whatever this thing is... it's the Dastardly Chinese knock off Swiss Army Hammer. I used it to ... I got nothing.

While you were at work the other day and I was at your place, visiting your wife, she kept referring to you as the tack hammer. I asked why she kept calling you the tack hammer, and she said you had a little tool and couldn't get any force behind it. I didn't realize she was being that literal.

Thanks for being a good sport.

By the way, Black Country Communion is recording again -- with Bonamassa.

Black Sabbath! I saw them at the Fillmore (along with Sir Lord Baltimore) in the late 60's. Naturally, I remember little about that concert but the smell and the volume.

I made it through the entire thread and I have only one question. ("Only one?")

Does anyone really say "LEM" as only one syllable? The voices in my head pronounce it like the name of Daisy Duke's cuter cousin, Ellie Em.

I do, of course I've only ever heard of one in this forum and have zero interest in it.

Of course it's one syllable. It's short for Lemuel. Proverbs 31:1, people!
