View Full Version : Help--what's the latest on erratic Glock Ejection?

I have a Gen2 Glock that I bought used that is plagued by erratic ejection--often right into the shooter's face or head. I've had other people shoot it to confirm that it is not just me.

I had two knowledgeable people file on the ejector, and one completely replaced it. I sent it back to Glock, only to have a gun that not only ejected erractically but also produced horrizonal stovepipes as in failures to eject. Luckily, a Lone Wolf extractor corrected that problem. For what it is worth the ejector has a number 336 written on it.

The Whitesound Hred does not seem to have helped. My next plan is to try switch the entire Glock upper--slide, barrel, & recoil spring with that of my other Glock Gen2 model 17 and see if this helps.

thanks

My wife's Gen 3 17 has bombed both of us smack dab on top of the head since day 1. I have just accepted this as normal behavior for these things. Maybe I should expect more, but it goes BANG! in such a monotonous manner that I'm loathe to have anything done to it.

My gen3 34 hits me in the head and glasses more than I'd like but doesn't malfunction so I just continue to ignore it. FWIW it hasn't (yet) done it with +P ammo, although I don't shoot much of it.

I've seen a few Gen 2s do that. I had one that used to smack me in the head something fierce..I mean every shot. I sold the thing with full disclosure so I never solved the problem. My Gen 3 guns don't do it(on occasion but nothing like the Gen 2s I've seen) and I've never seen any other Gen 3 guns do it. I'd replace the Extractor and put a new extractor spring in it and see what happens.

My Gen4 does it. A 99% fix was a lighter recoil spring, or more powerful ammo.

Thanks guys.

I forgot to mention that it doesn't do so with the Winchester Ranger 124 grain +P JHP or the Winchester Ranger 147 grain JHP. But it does so with the Barnual 115 grain FMJ and Blazer 115 grain JHP.

I am also going to try some other types of ammo in it.

My other Gen2 17 doesn't seem to toss brass in my face or bop me on the head with them, or if it does it is a once in a while thing, and my Gen2 19 doesn't do so either.

The 30274 ejectors are helping but there are still issues with the guns as the new ejector, coupled with the newest RSA is not a 100% fix. Some people are reporting continued issues after "upgrading" their ejector from the 336 to the 30274.

Keep your eyes on Apex Tactical as Randy Lee and the rest of the Apex crew will be releasing several VERY desirable parts in the near future that should fix all ailments.

The only downside is that the "fix" that he has incorporated into my pistol required milling the slide, specifically the ejection port ramp out angle. He is working his ass off to find a way to manufacture a drop in fix for the pistols.

Some data points:

My G19 with 8k rounds was sent to Randy Lee. In 8K rounds i experienced numerous horizontal and vertical stovepipes. Ejection was erratic at best but was not a face splattering porn star like some other reported guns. The pistol has 1937 rounds through it since returning to me. Extraction and ejection are consistent no matter who the shooter is or how weakly/poorly the pistol is gripped.

My G17 experienced so many stovepipes in 6k rounds that i lost count. During a 2200 round class i stopped counting after 50 stovepipes...The pistol chucked brass in my face, over my head, to the left, forward etc. Brass was ejected twice into my shooting glasses and burned my eyelid. I have a second degree burn scar after a case lodged itself between the leg of my shooting glasses and my temple. 1600 rounds ago i switched to a 30274 ejector and the pistol is no longer stove piping but ejection is not 100%. When firing left handed i had three cases hit me in the head and face today. It is an improvement but is not perfect.

I believe the last key to this puzzle will be Randy's extractor as it seems to hold the casings to the breech face in a more consistent manner. Ejection immediately improved when i dropped my G19's prototype extractor into my 17.

At the very least, Randy's part will last the lifetime of the pistol or damned near close, whatever the cost, i will be adding these to all of my pistols. Not because its required but because it gives me peace of mind. Kinda sucks but hey, i trust randy more than i trust some random Glock contractor.

Magz,

I think you helped me a great deal! Thank you.

I ran one of Randy Lee's Apex Tactical M&P9 extractor's when it was just in prototype stage. Previous to that the gun was having a failure to extract every 200-400 rounds. The APex Tactical extractor completely corrected this issue.

Funny how it works, I have a G19 with close to 10k through it without one single malfunction. When I shoot +P+ Ranger all the brass hits me directly in the damn forehead. Doesn't do it with any other ammo. Long as it keeps working...
