There I go posting a thread about Henry and I having a guy's weekend, and damned if the little floppy eared, sad faced pup didn't stab me in the back!

My daughter came into the master bedroom last night and said "Hey dad, Henry had this, but I got it from him"

She handed me an old IWB holster that was issued to me.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b109/IV_Troop/Handguns/IMG_2740_zpsnmfqmvzo.jpg (http://s18.photobucket.com/user/IV_Troop/media/Handguns/IMG_2740_zpsnmfqmvzo.jpg.html)

I ask how he got it, as it is supposed to be in a room that the door is always shut. She stated that the door was open. I recall I was rummaging through holsters and the handgun safe looking for something, and there were a few holsters on the bed, that I did not put up. I must not have shut the door completely.

No big deal, or so I thought.

I walk downstairs this morning to get on the treadmill and low and behold I find half of a custom leather holster!:mad:

Henry is right at my side, and I yell "Henry!"

He just gets as small as possible and slinks back up the stairs. He does not even wait for me to say anything, he crawls right into his kennel. He would not even make eye contact with me. I told him what a bad dog he just kept turning his head to avoid eye contact..

He did not get to share the elk steaks I had for lunch, which I normally make a bit extra for him.

He can eat kibble.

Can honestly say this has happened to me, my dad gone Jack Russell Terrorizer, Gromit. It was one of my work shoes though (leather) many many moons ago. Oh boy do they ever know they've been busted lol.

PS Sorry for your loss.

Not yet.

He might get taught to sleep outside if he keeps it up!

Actually that is just macho talk, and I knew it when I was typing it.. :(

The wife and I call the Henry and the kids "Littermates". They are inseparable at this point.

But he is still a bad dog today.

Not a Chance!

I don't want him thinking it is OK to chew on leather. I have a small fortune wrapped up in Milt Sparks stuff alone.

In my man cave, my main range bag used to be placed at a certain spot on the floor. This was so when I dry practiced mag changes they'd fall on the bag quietly and not go thunk on the floor. Well, our dog is very good about not going in the house. If he has an accident, he's sick, that's just how it is. And he poops twice a day, once in the morning once in the afternoon.

So I come home from work one day and my wife informs me that Eli hasn't had his afternoon business. OK, no big deal, I'm gonna hit the dry fire and I step into the man cave to find a group of perfectly placed little dog turds circling my range bag. He'd actually made a ring around it with about six little nuggets. I turned and looked at him and he just laid down on the floor, head on his front paws, looking sad. Busted and he knew it.

Now, I'm a bit of a softie, so I really didn't do anything to him except say bad dog. And the poop was solid so it picked right up with no mess or stains thankfully. He's never done anything like that before or since, so I guess he must have been mad at me for some reason that day, maybe I didn't scratch his belly before I went to work.

Grin!

It would not have been so bad if he had chewed the cheap old AIWB rig. The one he chewed up was a Mernickle for a single action revolver that I have had for a long time. That said, I did not use it much, as I have Sparks holsters that fit the same gun/s.

That "No chew" stuff means nothing to a real chewer. My long gone dog Gus actually liked "Bitter Apple", and some other stuff that supposedly was even worse. Bitter Apple made me toss up my just eaten lunch once when I sprayed it on a table leg(Before we figured out he actually liked the stuff) that Gus had been chewing and then I rubbed my mouth with my hand a minute or so later. Wow, it was horrible stuff. We got Gus the day before buying a new Minivan. What a mistake that was. First thing he ate was the carpet in the back, followed by the sound deadener, which was basically a hunk of asphalt with recycled fibers attached to it. I cut the carpet off and put a rubber mat in that I found in the floormat section at a auto parts store. He never chewed it, but he did chew the driver's door panel up, followed by the stereo wiring which was exposed because the original stereo was bad and was out being fixed. He passed all that stuff with no problems, and once in a while, he would drop something we never knew he had eaten. Along with chewing the car, he ate an 18" diameter hole in the carpet, chewed up a couple of door frames, a lot of socks and shoes, books and magazines. A lot of people thought we were crazy to keep him, but I knew eventually he would stop and at about 16 months, he did. After seeing what he could do to the stuff he was supposed to chew, I kind of think we got off easy. He could eat one of those 3/8" thick rawhide hunks in a couple of minutes, sawing off hunks the size of playing cards and swallowing the pieces. That stuff is like steel, trying to cut it with pruning shears is difficult, but Gus could crank through a piece in about 20 seconds. As many a vet said about him over the years, "He's got finger-amputatin' teeth!". He ate 12-15 of those hunks of rawhide every day for over 14 years, right to the end. His teeth were in perfect shape, not a hint of any dental problems, even at the end. He had callusses all over his gums from them. Of all my dogs, I miss him the most:
14731
Turned into this, somehow:
14732
I could put my whole hand into that mouth, with my thumb folded underneath the palm, with his front teeth touching my wrist where it bends, without the tips of my fingers touching the back of his mouth. My hands are average sized. I could move my fingers back and forth quite a bit before I hit those monster teeth. Look at your hand and think about that. That head was on a 75 pound dog!

My first bull terrier got out of his pen once (I probably didn't lock the gate ) I can home to find him fat and happy. He ate a plaster Paris Easter bunny. That bunny was 18 inches tall and he chewed half of it. He loved kong toys, crushing tennis balls and bones. I would fill a sterilized bone with peanut butter; freeze it and give it to him in the pen. He'd work that for hours. I still miss that dog.

Speaking of escaping dogs. We had a Golden Retriever (Spanky) who forced his way out the door when my Mother-in-Law was coming in. Spanky was a bruiser at around 100 Lbs. We had just moved into a new house and were brand new in the neighborhood. Spanky disappeared for 10 to 15 minutes and then my wife spotted him trotting down the hill across the road with something big and pink in his mouth. He was on his way home with a Ham in his mouth. It was a big tasty looking ham, glazed and yummy looking.

Not that there was any saving the ham but I tried 'retrieving' the ham from Spanky. He wasn't going to give it up. Every time I got near him he picked up the ham and bolted. When I finally got it from him there was nothing but a bone left. The bone was still warm when I got it. We have no clue where or how Spanky got the ham. Did he go into a house and grab it? Did he find a Honey Baked Ham package that just delivered on someone's doorstep? My wife thought about putting up signs saying, "If you lost your dinner and can identify it we will reimburse you" but we never did. This occurred mid week in the beginning of a November many moons ago.

After all that chasing the dog and the ham I got a craving for ham and cooked a ham that weekend. Spanky sat in front of the stove the whole time it cooked. Unlike his last experience he didn't get his mouth on this one.

I really don't know what his mix is. I rescued him from the local pound. There were a BUNCH of dogs all yapping, barking and going nuts. He just sat there, never barked once. He just sat wagging his tail. I took him into the visiting room, and he crawled up on my lap, chewed on my fingers for a couple minutes, and then went to sleep on me.

My guess is that he has some sort of hound in him, as he definitely has hound ears, and bawls like one. He also takes constant naps like an old hound dog. We think maybe he is a hound/springer mix. But it is all just guessing.

He took right to our little people, like litter mates, and the rest is history.

Henry, the Happy Hound was a very bad dog AGAIN while I was away elk hunting...

https://i.imgur.com/pKKT6ygh.jpg

This was a gift from the wife for my Colt Lightweight Commander. Sharkskin version. Apparently someone left the door open, and Henry wandered into the room I keep my holsters, perused the selection, and went "top shelf".

The kids were worried I was going to put a cap in Henry and nobody wanted to tell me that he did it AGAIN!

Henry is now a 2 Striker....

Yesterday I dropped off the holster with one of the co-owners of Milt Sparks (a great excuse to visit and hang out with buddies), after delivering some elk to my dad's house. He said it is repairable. I won't look great, but it will be serviceable.

I haul Henry back elk leg bones, and this is the thanks I get!

That sucks.

My Brittany ate pieces off a holster once upon a time. The yelling and slapping the floor with said holster next to her, with a few slaps to her side, cured her to the point she wouldn't pick up scraps from leather projects for months, and still looks guilty when she does sneak the shavings off the floor.

She sleeps mostly in my teenaged son's room. He brought me a sheathed knife the other day. He misplaced it, and found it under the bed. She chewed the belt loop off it.

Stinkers, all of them.

German Shorthaired Sprointer (English Springer Spaniel x German Shorthaired Pointer mix)

Seems like springers mixed with a lot of things come out pretty good.

That dog looks amazing like Henry (facially). The Springer makes sense. Watching him work the brush, woods, etc he points like a classic bird dog. He also bays so loud like a hound dog it is hard on the ears in the house. He generally only does it when he sees a cat or dog he wants to play with. Or squirrels..

Thanks for the link. Those were some super nice looking pups on there. I would not mind getting Henry a companion to keep him company during the day, but I think my bride would absolutely come unglued.

I should take a pic of that shark skin 1911 holster that he chewed on the the Sparks co-owner repaired. Amazing work, considering what it looked like. I will dig it out later today.

We have a cat that knows the theory of door knobs. At one house we lived there was a built in shelf at a right angle to the main bedroom door and at roughly door handle height. If the door was shut we'd occasionally catch her leaned out from the shelf with both paws on the door knob and trying to twist it back and forth. Kill maybe but eat is an improbability. She's a kibble kind of girl, give or take weird passions for anything containing tomatoes or milk (Cream of Tomato soup is her idea of heaven). Otherwise, wet food is for faux burying. She'd cover us up well before eating us.

When we got the second cat (the really adorable but doofy one) we had her segregated in the bathroom while the lady and I were at work for the day. The first time I beat my wife home and she was free, I assumed my wife had forgotten to latch the eye-hook across the door before she left. The next day, same deal, wife was positive she latched it. We're sure the first cat (really smart, too much attitude for a male cat) was jumping about 5 feet vertically and knocking the latch upwards and out to free his new little sister.

I've also caught him standing on his hind legs and trying to turn door knobs, turn on sinks, open the refrigerator, etc. Knows how, just lacks thumbs.

My old pitbull used to just battering ram a closed door with her head until we opened it. Was fine about allowing bathroom privacy and all, but would wake up in the living room at night and need to go to sleep in the bedroom with the humans. She was also a chewer. I watched her chew up a standard Kong and eat it in less than 45 minutes. We switched to the heavy duty ones after that.
