I've always been a handgun guy. Somehow in 20+ years of shooting I've never mounted a scope on a rifle (aside from a red dot on my DDM4).

I have a Nikon Prostaff II 3-9x40 and a Ruger 10/22 All-Weather Carbine. What mounting rings do I need for basic hundred-yard range fun? The variety is huge. Lots of Googling hasn't been particularly helpful.

Nikon makes rings for it- 1", I think. Rimfire Central forum has tons of info on Ruger 10/22s, good resource

Burris Zee rings are well liked in the rimfire circles. They include plastic inserts to prevent the rinkgs from marking the scope. I use Leupold mounts some too. The factory Ruger base allows for either Waever cross slot rings or 3/8" grooved dovetail rings. I prefer cross slots for security. Medium heights should get you there.
