I decided to start a separate thread for discussion on these scopes so I don't clog up another thread.

Mike mounted up a BURRIS XTRII 1-8x this weekend. It worked great and for the price it's even more impressive. Pics taken with an iPhone 7.

A video on the SFP Burris 1-8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTFD0ot6SK4[/QUOTE]

I tried to take a quick pic (They are difficult to take the way I did and the glare is with the sun behind me) to compare the Burris XTR II 1-8x24 First Focal Plane vs. Second Focal Plane illumination which isn't the best representation as the SFP is much brighter and easier to pick up to the naked eye and is nearly Aimpoint bright than shows.

There's different tiers of Burris, just like there's different tiers of Trijicon or Vortex for example.

I've been slammed the last few days and wanted to post more on this topic. With him only seeing the optic indoors for a short time it could be slightly deceiving but he said the optic didn't wow him anymore than the Burris XTR II 1-8 which is ~40% less retail though the Trijicon does 'seem' more rugged. Now about LPV's in general, let me explain my perspective.

We carry LPV's from the $329 Vortex Strike Eagle, the $1,999 Kahles K16i 1-6 (Still my favorite LPV), $3,300 Minox ZP8 1-8 and many in between. The higher quality 1-6's like the Kahles, Swaro or even the Vortex still look better edge to edge in clarity, flatness of the image and eye box than even the best 1-8's currently on the market.
A few points:
1. Both the Burris XTR II 1-8 and (I believe) Trijicon Accupower 1-8 are made in Japan by Light Optical Works and seem to have similar quality in glass without comparing them side by side.
2. The retail on them is $999.00 for the Burris and ~$1,445.00 for the Trijicon, it's up to the individual to decide if it's worth the extra money.
3. Swarovski who took full control of Kahles lowered the K16i 1-6 this year to $1,999.00 which I feel is the best overall LPV period.
4. I still prefer Second Focal Plane when it comes to LPV's as the reticle on 1 power is too small IMO, Burris gives you the choice of either FFP or SFP while the Trijicon is FFP only. I've only had the Burris 1-8's either in FFP or SFP in stock, never at the same time and prefer the SFP after going back and forth.
5. I also prefer a simple reticle for a LPV and the Trijicon is a little busy from the reticle pics I see.
6. The FFP Burris 1-8 and Trijicon 1-8 illuminated reticle is not as bright as I'd like at 1 power, the SFP Burris is a Red Dot in the center of the cross hair.
7. It's hard to go wrong with the above mentioned Burris, Trijicon, Vortex or Kahles but for my money I'd get a 1-6 Kahles or Vortex over the 1-8 Trijicon or Burris.

I hope this clears up some confusion as I'm trying to answer the phone and emails while getting this posted in a timely manner.

In general, I believe a 6 multiplier will be more forgiving in the eye box than a comparable scope with an 8 multiplier. And I'm glad that even I can help someone learn when I'm learning as well

I purchased this scope from CS Tactical at a good price a couple months ago. It's mounted on a Tikka T3X Compact Lite .308. I used aluminum Vortex 34 mm rings. With a couple of hundred 150 grain PMC and 155 grain AMAX handloads through the rifle, the scope has performed very well. I'm dialing 3.4 mils of elevation at 545 yards, the farthest I've shot. The reticle illumination did go down early. Replacing the factory 2032 battery seems to have been the fix. Although it's too early for me to pass final judgment, I'm highly pleased. With best regards from the Big Empty, ELN.

Update on my FFP mil/mil:

I've fired a couple hundred additional rounds since my last post. The scope is mounted on a Tikka T3X Compact Lite in 308 with a 20 MOA rail. My handload is a Hornady 155 AMAX over 43.0 grains of H4895. This yields approximately 2675 fps. I've had no problems with the scope. The .1 milrad clicks are more closely spaced and not as distinct as on my high-dollar precision rifle scopes. At this price, I wouldn't expect them to be. I haven't done any box testing but, tracking seems good. I can dial 8.2 mils to get on the 900 yard plate. I run out of elevation travel at about 9.5 mils - just short of the 9.9 mils needed to get me on steel at 1000. After replacing the factory battery, the illumination has been reliable.

As an aside, I've been playing with the Strelok Pro ballistic app. It's the best I've used so far and includes this scope's reticle.

Conclusion: This is an excellent scope for the light, compact "general purpose" bolt rifle in open country. From the Big Empty, ELN.

One thing I do is hold over with the reticle and dial in the difference. For example, hold 4 mils and dial in 5.9 to give enough elevation.

I like Strelok as well.

Yes sir. I do that as well. Just trying to give folks an idea of the distance I can dial with my rig. Best,

Thanks for posting this. I just noticed the other day that Burris was coming out with a 1-8. I'm still trying to come up with the "right" answer for my 7.62 AR. Here in the Bay Area where ranges are 100 yards and any realistic real world use would be inside that range I'm getting by with an Aimpoint just fine, Still the wanabe inside of me wants to be able to pick off goblins at 800 yards. What range were you shooting at?

I consider my rifle to be a "600 yard gun". That said, I've made hits on some hero-size steel at 1000. Of course, I'd like greater magnification and a different reticle at 1000 and beyond. With a 20 MOA base, you should be able to dial all the elevation you need at 800. The Burris' strengths are its versatility, quality, and value. I'm happy with mine. From the Big Empty, ELN.

It must be one of the "members" ranges? I try to get out there a couple of times a year to take things out to 300 yards. Great Range and wonderful people!

Correct! With a member you can shoot the Steel Silhouette range which extends out to 500 Meters. IMO it's the best range in Northern California.

I don't know how I missed this from my home state. What did you put it on?
