Here's where I do most of my practice if anyone wants to come out. Now that the baby is 2 months old, I find myself shooting more since i could see a decrease in speed and accuracy from the last logged times at the range. I don't feel I'm up to the same par as I was 6 months ago so I'm always down to shoot (and eat) if anyone wants to tag along. I try to do 100-200 rounds a day with incorporated shooting on the move and low light. This means you can't be stupid, and need to bring your "A" game of safety. Last thing I want is to clean up your sh!t because you unauthorized discharged into your leg. Good? Good.

That looks great. Wish it was open to non-military though.

It is in a sense. You don't have to be military but can be a federal employee or a contractor with CAC ID to be able to utilize facility. If anything, I'm sure you have to have a couple friends with such credentials to be able to escort you in.

Was it a bad experience? If so you can either share it here for everyone to discuss or you can PM me directly to discuss privately.

It was amateur hour. Safety was not even remotely considered, let alone emphasized. There was an ND in the lane next to ours, and not a word was said.

We waited an awfully long time to get a lane, even though there were 3 empty lanes available.

The staff was as rookie as the morons sweeping the line with their loaded weapons.

You couldn't pay me to return. It is a great range for hobby shooters, but I won't be going back, and certainly wouldn't consider it for training or practice. I can get more benefit shooting AirSoft in my garage. At least in the garage I don't have to worry about getting shot.

Thanks for your input. Was your safety concerns addressed to the staff regarding the ND and the sweeping of loaded firearms? I don't think they would have taken it lightly especially with the sweeping of the loaded firearms. Does any range in the Hampton Roads area come to mind where you feel like they have a higher safety standard?

I'm sorry you've waited for a long time even though you saw 3 lanes open. Did you ask why weren't people in those lanes with the amount of people waiting? Did you see if the lanes were down or inoperable until the staff had time to fix it? Our old system was notorious with people shooting cables down and we're not able to fix it till after we've closed down or calling the bay cold for 20-30mins in order to replace it. With our new target system in place, we've yet to have a lane go down from user error since Nov 18th.

Able to expand on the rookie staff? These are my people and I hope to raise the bar the best I could if you felt like it was low. What day did you show up and around what time? I keep all schedules in electronic format. I'd like to hire people that have a passion for shooting but I rarely come upon those people at $8/hour.

I encourage you to return and put your thoughts in our comment box. This will go directly to my director in which hopefully he allows me to put another body on the clock for the weekends to address your safety concerns.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. After your further comments, I'll be sure to take action. I strive to be the cleanest, safest, and top notch range in the area. Does any range in the Hampton Roads area come to mind where you feel like a higher safety standard?

Also I just realized I rarely shoot with the general populous in there during business hours so I don't really know how it is in there as a general customer. Sean, if you'd still like to come out and shoot you're more than welcome to. I usually shoot after hours or before we open on the weekends. Capabilities are greater since we'll be able to shoot on the move and low light/no light/white light. Also I picked up some police lights to install to each bay for Navy Quals that we'll be able to utilize.

I think more than anything, it was frustrating to watch the "general public" shooting there. A whole bunch of people who should know better, but don't.

It's a bit out of my way, but I might hit it up again, and see if the circumstances are better after a second run through.

I agree. I always thought being on a military installation, it will hinder some of yahoos out there but it hasn't to some degree. I still feel more at ease versus the commercial ranges in the area where anyone can walk in. If its out of your way then don't worry about it. I like what you've brought up and will try to instill this into my employees. Thanks for being blunt. No harm no foul on my end. I cherish constructive criticism. Nonetheless, I'll catch ya around. Probably will run into you with one of Todd's classes. Don't be a stranger.

I'll try to make a point of swinging by over the holidays. Assuming my flight out of here gets me home for the holidays.

I'll have my GF and her 12 y/o in town for Christmas, and both will want to shoot I am sure. We'll cruise up and spend a day NOT freezing on the range.

ummm ... hold that thought. It will be cold on my range too since we have 100% fresh air. This means we take our air in from the outside and push it all out. So we don't have any real heaitng capabilities. The heat cuts on every now and then and reach 65deg but for the most part it'll be cold and breezy in there. lol You never know though, the day you come might have a warm front like yesterday. 70deg in the middle of December? kidding me! lol
