There are now 215,462 gun licence holders in the state, an increase of over 37,000 in the past five years from 177,675. Supt Plotecki, commander of the Firearms Squad, said that an increase of 37,000 gun licences in NSW since 2010 was a lot but there has been no corresponding increase in gun crime. “If you are a legitimate gun licence holder you are probably doing everything right,” he said.

Yeah, it couldn't be the adherents to a certain "religion of peace" migrating to Australia and doing, you know, religion of peace shit....

The Ozzies I've met, drank, and broken bread with over the years were not particularly impressionable people. Quite the contrary, really...So I somehow doubt "US Gun Culture" is responsible for the increase in firearms permits in New South Wales.

So, where is the problem?

So, where is the problem?

The problem is that firearms are evil, and make people do bad things. More guns = more evil influence in society.

"Animism (from Latin anima, "breath, spirit, life")[1][2] is a world-view according to which all things—animals, plants, rocks, rivers, weather systems, even spoken words, buildings and other artefacts—are experienced as animate and alive. It is sometimes described as a religious belief that various objects, places, and creatures possess distinctive spiritual qualities."

Probably all those movies and games with guns in them.

Maybe a little bit also because of extremists with AK-47s sidling leisurely through Paris, France.

Mostly the movies though.

If extremism has garnered one positive, it is that the collective consciousness is becoming more aware of a very simple fact gun advocates have been saying for decades: that if a person is willing to die, no law means anything anymore. If someone has embraced death, it doesn't matter how civilized we look, it's back to jungle rules. Bite or be bitten.

We need to figure out a way to arm more Australians :(

It probably has more to do with how well the Australian military has been sorting out evil doers in the Middle East. Most folks look up to people who can do that, and the possession of arms is an easy way to show solidarity.

Of course, we put the Australian government up to it, so I guess we really are to blame in some ways.

"Animism ......"

Good lord, I've never thought of it that way. Hoplophobia is literally blasphemy.

lol at least our police force recognises we aren't the problem.

We don't have US style gun culture, we have and always will have an Australian style gun culture..

It's always been here, just after the over zealous laws we went a little underground and now it's becoming a little more public.

Our clubs are growing at something like 15-25% year on year and the biggest number is women joining.

The hoplophobes are just scared because their power is waning on the govt.

Australia is 25million in population and there are 1 million licenced shooters and another 1 million who are licenced for work purposes.

One day the 1 million shooters will unite and actually be a powerhouse here. That day is coming..

USA! USA! USA!

(Actually, it is silly to blame/credit us; the Australian people are quite capable of making their own decisions, but my congratulations to those 37,000 inhabitants of New South Wales for refusing to knuckle under to the politically correct elite that hates guns).
