View Full Version : Beretta 92FS AIWB?

Any guys carry the full size M9/92FS AIWB? How does it ride? I normally carry the 34, but that gets a bit long IMO, however the Beretta is alot more tapered towards then end of the barrel so I was wondering if that helps?
I've been DESPERATELY trying to find a 5 Shot SME for a Beretta 92, but its never been seen on the used market for me to try. I'm thinking of ordering a JM. Would it be necessary to get the "extra tuck" option for this or would the claw suffice?

I have carried a wilson brig tac in a regular JM aiwb, with a foam pad rather than the extra tuck, without issue. I believe the curves and grip length of the 92 are conducive to good concealment for me.
I personally prefer a stiffer belt with it as i find it tends to sag the grip down toward the belt line a bit with a less stiff option. I normally carry with an offset wilderness 5 stitch for polymer guns and switch to an ares ranger when carrying the beretta.

Lot of good info on that thread. I carry a 92G in a JM "The George" holster with a foam wedge. No tuck on that holster.
I thought that a 92 with a D hammer was the most concealable big gun I've carried. I carried a shorter barrel options ad then I switched to a Compact before going back to HK, liked the Compact even better. I used both JM and Shaggy. Didn't like the weight though.

Not used to something big and heavy in your pants?

All kidding aside, these are some draws with the JM Kydex "The George" (running a 22 conversion kit)

AWIB with a Beretta 92 used to be my only choice. I am slender and it worked fine, not that I wouldn't want a smaller or lighter pistol. I did not use "slim fit pants" however..

This is one of the places I actually think the PX4 is better suited than the 92. Lighter weight, thinner, less sharp and you maintain almost the same manual of arms. The fire control system being mostly the same is a big plus.
Alot of people talk about carrying a 92 in AIWB and say it conceals well. I've been poking around this topic for awhile on the web, because the Beretta 92 is one of my favorite guns (though I don't own one). There arent alot of pictures of Berettas being AIWB though. A few, but not many. The number of reputible folks who have done it (or still do) and the number of holster options available make ne think it could be a great choice.

I'm a large man and can pull this off.
It is like AIWB'ing a Glock.

Don't forget that Berettas are not as popular as glocks which could be the reason for that. A G17 works pretty well for me, and based on some of the pics out there it appears to be the exact same size almost of a 92FS. Except its thicker towards the end of the slide than the 92 which i think should help the 92 be more comfortable?

The 92 has more bulk at the beltline than a G17 when carried AIWB. For me, the grip of the G17 prints more than a 92 AIWB. I use the JM George w/ extra tuck and it conceals nicely. You do start to feel the weight at the day though. If you're going to carry a 92 AIWB I think a Centurion would be your best bet. Shorter slide but full size firing grip. For me, the 92 Compact'a grip is a little too small and sometimes I'll struggle to get a good master grip on a fast AIWB draw.

The Centurion is my preference as well if I carry a 92 series . I have concealed a full sized 92 AIWB but it was not what i would call comfortable. Part of my problem is i am 5′ 8″ ,140 pounds with no torso , so i have limited space lol.
Honestly for me the weight was the biggest turn off. Person dependent for sure.

Similar to what MSparks909 said above, I actually find the grip of the 17 harder to conceal than the Beretta. I use a JMC AIWB holster with the extra tuck and carry the 92 year round. It is concealable, for me, in all clothing down to a regular (not extra large, not muscle) t-shirt. I'm 6'2"-ish and about 205#.

I've carried a fullsize 92 AIWB, not a huge problem for me provided I'm in shape, though I currently carry a centurion in the fullsize holster which I prefer. The centurion is easier and faster to draw.

Well, I was 236# this time last year due to a similar reason. Dropping the weight made it easier to conceal the 92 in light summer clothing.

With my body build, the 92 was physically too long to work well. It was one of 3 reasons why I went to other tda options.
I'm 6 foot with a 33 inch inseam, 34 inch waist, and 13-14% body fat.

I'd love to try AIWB with my 92, but I look at all of Tony's holster options and don't have a clue which would work best for me. I'm 6'2", 205 (that's light heavyweight ;) ), but wear 32" inseam. When I've played around with an old IWB holster, it seems as though I'd need a lot of pistol above the top of my belt to not crush my junk when I sit. Which make me wonder if the pistol would lean out more. Rambling aside, do you just buy holsters until one works or you give up and go back to IWB? Or is there some way to have an glimmer of what will work in advance?

I'd recommend either the George AIWB or the Wing Tuck AIWB. Both have minimum bulk at the belt line. If you're unsure whether or not you want the holster to "tuck" the grip into your body then I would order the holster with the Neoprene sponge wedge. Try the holster without the sponge wedge, and if the top of the slide seems to flop out over your belt then attach the wedge and trim to fit until it conceals well and is comfortable. I highly recommend a stiff belt, especially for AIWB.

Slightly off topic, can a Compact/Elite barrel be used in a full size slide? And if so is there a place to buy just the barrel?

A combination of a relatively short for the size grip, rounded back of the slide (with a D hammer) and rear sight that's set forward relative to the back of a slide is what makes it so nice for AIWB. All usual AIWB printing spots are minimized.
Not used to something big and heavy in your pants?
Not enough space, already occupied by something big and heavy.

No on the compact barrel in a standard slide as it is 4.3 inches. Yes on the Elite and Vertec barrels as they are 4.7 inches. The standard 92 barrel is 4.9 for reference.

I will also add that the lug length is different on compact Berettas than full size 92's. (shorter)

Great news, is that for the Brig/Elite model or the regular 92? Also, I read in the PX4 thread that full size PX4 holsters would be available as well?

96D with fifteen round Mec-Gar. Prints on me with the extended mag but is comparable to a Glock 23 or 19 when using flush 13 rounders. But Glocks print on me out of proportion to their size. My 27 prints as much at the USP compact that replaced it as my belt gun.

I am 5' 9" and 189 (think semi weight lifting build) and carried a 92a1 for a month in a JM no problem. Issue was my tiny hands, gun would move around on me a lot. Personal issues but our president has the same hands so I have that going for me =D

Might be a weird question but what pants are these? Almost all my pants have the loops closer together and they get in the way of my AIWB positioning

I would suggest the model that has 2 clips or struts, one on either side of the holster. I think that's the wing model but I try not to pay too much attention. You'll want that to minimize belt bulge and stabilize if you want to have a higher ride for comfort. I'm sure Tony can add an extra hole for each strut to add adjustments up/down, and the RCS clips already have a bit built into them.
The George in .093 with extra ride height holes would be my second suggestion as already pointed out. Though, this new Keeper rig sounds pretty sweet as well.
