I didn't see anything posted about this elsewhere. Interesting news. Anyone have an idea of what we could see moving forward?

hm unsure, while I am not actively not using my HK pistols, I still own two. Nice to know the company seems to be doing well.

I'd bet that it has something to do with the Infantry School being located at Ft. Benning, which is just across the street from Columbus.

If it means more roller-locked goodness on the market, I'm all for it.

I'd also want a civilian variant of the MP7, but I think that's probably too dangerous for civilian ownership, as there's no real sporting use for it.

Ditto on the MR556A3.

As for the MP7 - there isn't much real non sporting use for them either. I'll pass.

Hopefully this opens up some new possibilities.

Agreed. If I was going to own a useless PDW it would be a PS90 SBR.

Good deal.

I look forward to browsing the gift shop after my factory tour.

A MR556A3 is one of the few rifles that would get me to buy another AR of any kind (assuming the barrel profile and finish were improved from the original MR556).

If I had to completely waste money on a random ass HK firearm it'd be a G36C. They've always been badass looking devices.

If HK brought over the real deal G36 series I'd buy a C without blinking an eye. But then again, if my aunt had a dick she'd be my uncle.

As a business model, I think more companies should pursue consolidation of operations and HQs to gun-friendly states in the US. Kind of a no-brainer.

From their book face page. Who says HK does not have a sense of humor.

Looks like my chrome-lined barrel MR556 dream is dead for 2017:

Where are these dream jobs when I'm around? I could troll people on behalf of HK for a paycheck easily.

I know, right?

I recommend reading the entirety of that whole chrome-lined barrel conversation. The H&K folks were on fire with their responses.

As noted, the MR223A3s have chrome-lined barrels, and are also marketed to have very high accuracy. The rep also claims that the H&K barrel will outlast any of their competitor's chrome-lined barrels under non-full-auto fire, which I'm suspect of, considering the fact plenty of people do mag dumps even with semi-auto guns, and that's still a fairly harsh firing schedule.

I really don't get the decision to forego the chrome-lined barrel, considering that Canadians can purchase the MR223A3, so it's probably not an export law blocking it.

Good luck with that.

Sigh. You are probably right.

But see here, what if they followed the BMW marketing model in this regard? I was thinking of this operation, located at the BMW plant in Spartanburg SC:

https://bmwperformancecenter.com

I mean, can you imagine a similar center for HKs?

I'm legit going to ask HK's PR people who's running their FB because that shit is amazing.

Back in the '90s they had a training division for more than armorers. I can't remember if any classes were open to civilians or just LE/MIL. Most classes were geared to their stuff (MP5 operators course, Benelli shotguns, etc). I went to one class and it was well done. Of course there weren't as many options as their are now.

I do remember them being a little weird about letting you in their building (all my training was at the range). Hence my comments on an HK gift shop. They'd have to unpucker their asses having the public come in.

I wonder if the expansion is more related to military contracts like the M27 IAR and G28 CSASS than expansion of commercial sales? I'd like to think the M27 and G28 contracts would lead to more military style options for US customers, but the reaction to civilian interest in chrome lined barrels leads me to believe otherwise.

I was thinking at the least they would be trying to chase more U.S. contracts. There was an idea floating around online about the M27 being more broadly deployed across USMC units. Eventually CBP will replace the P2000. Domestic production would benefit chasing U.S contracts.

With HK's focus on government contracts, the new facility might not benefit the U.S public much. The big difference would be if HK USA splits more from the German company and has the ability and desire to produce more for the U.S. public. It seemed to work for SIG but that had other issues.
