View Full Version : Polymer 80 aftermarket slide for Gen3 G17 for RMR?

Good evening,

I'd like to pick the hive mind about a aftermarket slide for a Gen3 Glock 17.

http://www.polymer80.com/P80-DLC-Slide-G17-Gen3-Enhanced-Black_p_1845.html

I have a spare Gen3 G17 frame laying around with a nice threaded barrel as well. I've been thinking about a RMR-equipped pistol: The eyes, they not so young anymore. I'd like to get a Glock with a Trijicon RMR. Since I already have the frame, barrel and parts that go in the slide, this would give me more cash to spend on the RMR.

Has anyone seen or had any feedback on these slides?

Thanks very much for your time.

I've never heard of them, neither here nor anywhere else, and I'd say I have at least a decent knowledge of the aftermarket for Glock.

It looks pretty sketchy to me. I'm automatically a bit dubious of any company that sells 80% lowers and has a weird name like "Polymer 80." I figure buying a slide from the is about like buying a pill of some infomercial to make your pecker bigger called "Phallus 4000."

I wouldn't buy anything from them. I'm of the belief you get what you pay for and that slide costs half what an Agency slide costs.

No knowledge of the polymer 80 slide or anything that company makes. But I have to disagree that cost less than X is a viable thought process. I've got a pws slide on a gen 3 frame and I like it, it costs about the same as the p80. Getting ready to send it off to be milled for delta point. Not sure how I lived without front serrations before.

Looks like Polymer80 is a NV company set up to manufacture & market "Ghost guns" (i.e., 80% completions) of specifically, an AR10 rifle & a Glock knockoff. See their FAQ section and the link to their BATFE approval letter.
I'm not familiar with their G17 slides ($415) either; description reads pretty sound.

I have no experience with that one or this one, but I'd buy this one if I wanted to try a cheaper slide out.

I wouldn't touch a poly AR lower with a 10ft pole, but their 80% G17 lowers have been getting mostly good reviews. They're just about to release an even better designed 80% G19 frame that looks like an actual quality 80% solution.

I can't comment on their slides, but once you hit the > $400 point you're within range of some more well reviewed slides. I just picked up an ATOM slide with an adapter plate for $400, so deals are out there.

ATOM
Suarez
Rogers

All come in around that rough price point, and I would personally bet on any of them over an unknown. I like the ATOM.

Don't have any experiences with aftermarket Glock slides but,

What about battlecomp slides?

Also was there not another vendor that was producing slides that was marketed as improving trigger pull? I think they showed them at Shot Show like 2 years ago or something.

Interesting. I did not realize that BCE made Glock slides. I just checked their website, and it appears they only produce them for the Glock 19.

I do have one of the original comps they made many moons ago, and like it a lot. I need to dig that AR out of the safe and shoot it some more.

Been pleased and impressed with my RMR-cut g19 slide from Brownells. Got it on sale for $165 and have zero complaints.

FWIW, the Poly80 slides have been getting good reviews elsewhere.

I will do a detailed write up after I shoot it (still waiting on my Brownells RMR slide that gets here Monday, but since it was a rainy day, I ratfucked my trusty old Gen3 19 and built this pig), but I do have some advice:

- most folks say to use 1000 grit sandpaper, but I preferred my regular files (will find a link if you’re really curious, they’re cheap) and I did a LOT of work with this sub $7 set of jewelry files from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0772W83B7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

- don’t start this build without a set of snips like these $9 ones (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007XNNWC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). If you peruse YouTube videos of these Polymer 80 builds, you’ll see guys using a stone or sandpaper Dremel bit to take off the entire 4 upper rail extrusions one must remove in order to make this frame usable. That’s a pain in the ass due to how long it takes, how easy it is to Dremel-fuck something, how uneven you’ll be compared to a nice clean cut from these snips, and of course, the melted plastic from these Dremel bits. GET. THE. SNIPS.

To clarify, I think this thing is fucking awesome, I HATE the feel of my Gen3 frame now. I think the build process is easy as well.

Also, Mack this fits with no issues into that really nice dark red/maroon G19 holster you sent me.

It works fine with the SiCo barrel, Glock slide, and my Rugged Obsidian (courtesy of Hansohn Brothers). I was impressed that with a slight correction for holdover, the sights were dead on with the SiCo barrel. Final build should be completed tomorrow, that is the Brownells slide and RMR additions. I still need to find some suppressor level sights, but I will get around to it.

I sure like the looks of the polymer80 over the LW, I don't mind a little tinkering, and not having to go through an FFL would be nice.

After going to the small gripped P250c, the G23.3 grip feels like a fat, oiled up slip-n-slide.

Maybe I need to refresh the tinfoil on my hat, but with cash sales at the fun show the only record of the transaction is the deposit slip the dealer gets from his bank...

So, myself, and some well known PF-folk got to shoot my Roland “Very Special” (name coined by TCinVA). It won’t function with lighter loads due to the compensator, I need a lighter recoil spring. I’ve got a 15lb and 13lb plus a guide rod en route. JMS and I got it zeroed at a decent distance, I think 15 yards, maybe more, maybe less. The center of the target got punched out.

I don’t have enough data yet to really form an opinion, but I think it wants to run and run well. I’m not sold on pistol mounted RDS nor even the comp. you wouldn’t be sold on the comp either if you saw joshs and TCinVA shooting their PX4 compacts. Either my comp is not that great or there is some magic to the Beretta’s rotating barrel.

I’m happy I built it, but for now it is a toy until I get the recoil spring sorted and also a better holster. Both of those problems are due to me not following the seven Ps (http://military.wikia.com/wiki/7_Ps_(military_adage)).

With some hotter ammo and a lighter recoil spring, I bet your Very Special Roland would shoot flatter. The comp needs more expanding gasses to provide downward force.

I bought one of the Brownells slides because I had read good things for the price. I assembled a Rowland special style base gun with plans to function test it before investing in a comp and RMR but realized I'm probably not at a skill level to see the benefits of a comp plus I am switching over to Berettas so I listed the 19 on Armslist without even shooting it.

Necro bump. I bought one of these for my Brownells slide as I don't know how long it will be before I get a proper RMR for it. The cover fits the slide well, but the bulges on each side (where the screws are located) are slightly proud of the slide on each side. The end result is that the slide doesn't fit my holster properly. It will go in, but kind of smooshes in rather than clicking in like the factory slide does. It would still work though.

I got a red one just to give the slide some bling. :D
