So what is the optimal sighting solution for a general purpose bolt action rifle?
After reading the Scout Rifle 2016 thread a few times, the sight options that are out there are rifle scopes, Aimpoints, and iron sights. Rifle scopes add magnification and precision. Aimpoints are good for movers, snap shooting and dim light, and irons are always on the rifle and weigh the least.
Can we use a rifle scope with an illuminated reticle to replace a separate scope and aimpoint? I think so, but it would have to be a low-powered variable to maintain the advantages of both systems. Are three-gun optics applicable to use for a bolt gun? How about about DMR style optics, that is an offset mount for an RMR?
I am thinking of replacing my Leupold VX3 3.5-10 with a VXR 3-9 Firedot.
